Language packs for Firefox and IceCat

Posted: Wed 08 Aug 2012, 18:20

I'm saving some language packs for Firefox/IceCat here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/a2n6emd3t3olh0x/Hjy8Bod_ta

This is convenient because not everyone can compile separate versions for their languages, or the person who maintains the packages doesn't have enough time to do so. This is also convenient because at times updates for Puppy Linux aren't done as soon as a new version of the browser is released, and sometimes these langpacks disappear or are blocked for other browsers.

vicmz, I've placed a link for them on the first page, so they will be easier to find later on.

Aboard 528, the official Mozilla update from 13.0.1 to 14.0.1- seamless. One of the best yet.. Nice!

NOTE ON FIREFOX/ICECAT LANGUAGE PACKS: To easily activate the installed language pack, install the locale_switcher extension (available in the same folder link I've posted). Then select Tools > Language, choose your language and restart Firefox. Once this is done, you can remove the locale_switcher extension.

I've just uploaded the Firefox-15.01 pet.

I don't see the need to keep so many versions, so version 11 has been removed,
Just because I like the number 12 better.

I've altered the way it runs a little bit: for more info, please see the following thread:
Updated Firefox crashes on opening another Firefox.

Tman: could you SFS your 15.0.1 pet? thanks in advance

shouldnt all outdated browser releases not be deleted from a security point of view? that's why i prefer SFS'es of browser applications - and also not to stress my old hardware

Version 7 was stable (IMO), while versions 8 to 10 were not that great. Versions 11 to 15 appear to be stable..basically I try to keep the good ones, while removing others that are redundant. You can find other versions in the Repositories if you really want them, and I think Pemasu keeps old copies as well on smokey01's server.

Oh yeah, I am uploading the sfs as I type this post. The sfs does not handle puninstall.sh scripts like pets do, so I renamed the puninstall.sh file to /root/my-applications/bin/firefox_cleanup. If you unload the sfs and want to get rid of the leftover files, type sh firefox_cleanup in the terminal.

I got to thinking , there was a huge flaw in my logic with the Firefox-15.01.sfs :

firefox_cleanup won't run if it gets unloaded with the rest of the sfs. Doh! I've fixed the problem and uploaded it as Firefox-15.01-official.sfs

I am getting the Forbidden message?

You don't have permission to access /Tman/apps/firefox/Firefox-15.0.1-official.sfs on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request
.

Sorry about that. It is now fixed. I didn't realize that the pet2sfs script I was using, was doing that. I guess I should fix that script now.

I let Firefox update itself to version 15.0.1 from the mozilla site. I saw nothing in its appearance that was different from version 14.0.1

After a few hours of use I chose (for reasons not important here) to click on a button to reset to default values. I regret doing so! The Firefox that I am left with now has no provision for opting to set TABS beneath the address, that option has disappeared from the drop-down menu.

I also notice that it has caused my savefile to show a red alert of being nearly full. The icon was comfortably orange before, since I'd deleted 60 MB of junk.

In config, toggle the entry in my image..

FF junk can be removed via script.

Hm? Do you have the option under the View menu:
View > Toolbars > Tabs on Top

(I'm running 15.0.1, too, and it's there. :) )

What is the size of your /root/.mozilla/firefox directory? Have you tried emptying the cache?
Also, you might try using an extension to attempt to keep the places database down to more tolerable levels (one hopes), like Vacuum Places Improved.

Edit: Oops, almost forgot. Since you mentioned you reset Firefox, you might also go into the Preferences, Security tab, and check on the "Block reported..." settings. Those tend to create a large (local) listing of blacklisted sites, and can grow to be fairly larger, too. (Though I don't remember what the filenames are, if you want to delete them manually, or whether or not they're removed if you uncheck those two "Block reported..." settings. )

I have uploaded pets and sfs files for Firefox-16.0.1.
I have also moved the download location and grouped all of my generic pets into 1 single folder.
As usual, the download link is on the first post of this thread.

The pets now start with lowercase letters and the sfs files start with uppercase.

IN making new PET packages for Firefox 16, are they the ones that include the security fix discovered after that upgrade was released?
This link http://sociable.co/web/mozilla-urges-us ... law-found/ explains it further.

I only ask because the article stated that a great number of downloads had been made before the security issue was identified and the upgrade of Firefox 16 patched.

Hi 8-bit,

Yes, version 16.0.1 fixes that security issue. Here are the release notes

Also, I have re-uploaded the SFS for Firefox-16.0.1
If you downloaded the first SFS and it did not ask you if you wanted to make Firefox the default browser, etc.. on the first run, then that one is defective... sorry for the inconvienence.
