Chat in Facebook
OK -- to anyone interested: After hours working on this i have what is an obvious, but quite workable solution. Go to meebo, sign up for an account, and log into facebook from there. Now, don't yell, just hang with me a second here....
First, meebo lets you chat in AIM, MSN, facebook, etc SIMULTANEOUSLY.
Second, you can "pop-out" the chat window and resize it, a really nice feature. This is better than the regular facebook chat window in some ways - you can chat in the pop-out window while surfing the web in the regular FirePup window. (You don't have to keep the facebook page open, just keep meebo open in one tab.)
Third -- remember that there's always a trade-off in these kinds of things. FirePup is built for speed, not for every conceivable feature. If someone wants all the Firefox 3 features and compatibilities -- then by all means, get Firefox 3!
I say -- ttuuxx, this is a great job. tthanxxx!!!

Re: Chat in Facebook
I agree Subito, some people use netsurf and they are happy with it, but then they download Firepup, and all you get is how can I get this addon etc. People should be happy that they have a great looking and speedy browser that is stable. What more could you want?Subito Piano wrote:

please answer my question!!
My Question in this thread on Mon Mar 02, 2009 has not been answered.
Because the monkey is the only browser I have ever used on Puppy 4 -- I don't see how an uninstall/reinstall will help with my problem.
don922 wrote: I've read all the forum posts on all versions of FirePup, but I am having a problem and I don't see where anyone has mentioned it. Its a minor problem that annoys the hell out of me.
The problem is in the Customize Toolbar Menu:
I only want to show icons -- however no matter what is selected Icons, Text, or Icons and Text
FirePup uses both Icons and Text.
I don't have this problem with Firefox 1.15.0.12 only with FirePup. I hope there is an easy fix for this.
I stated in my original post (on page 8 of this thread) that I was had been using Firefox 1.5.0.12 in SafePup 2.13. I have FirePup installed in Puppy 4. By the way, there is no post of mine on "page 4!!".Subito Piano wrote:2) Don922 -- hmm??!?!? I don't have that problem using FirePup. Are you using version 1.5.0.12? Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling?
[EDIT: yeah and now i see that you already told us this back on page 4!!]

I'll look into it before I reset my pc in the next day or two, I try to keep things at a min when I'm compiling clean for 4.2,don922 wrote:My Question in this thread on Mon Mar 02, 2009 has not been answered.

Thanks ttuuxxx:
I understand you're busy with 4.2 so if you can't get to this in the near term -- I understand.
Please remember my problem and if something comes to mind, please let me know.
Having both Icons and Text uses too much space on the Toolbars.
Small icons alone would be the best solution for me.
If I'm stuck with Text is there any way to adjust only this Text (under the Icons) very small without effecting the other text on the Toolbars?
Is there any files that I can copy from my working version of Firefox 1.5.0.12 (in SafePup 213) to FirePup that will fix this problem?

Yes and no, The best way is installing this pet, it will revert the default theme back to the original theme and you'll be able to remove the text, or the icons, I used parts of different FF3 themes in FirePup and thats why that function wasn't working. So this will fix it, but it will look like a regular FF.don922 wrote:Thanks ttuuxxx:

Not as pretty, but takes up a lot less monitor screen.

I went to the mozilla themes site and ripped apart a theme and repacked what I could use and added some of firepups theme to it , So try this one, the text with/without works and its 100kb smaller than the default FirePup theme,

Tab question
FirePup screams - thanks for all the fine work. I'm trying to get to an 'all tab' scheme. How can I get the links on the bookmark bar to open a new tab?
Running on Puppy-Barebones. Thanks for any input.

Also, might try to find the right combo in Edit>Preferences>Tabs.

For Next Release of FirePup
@ttuuxxx:
For the next future release of FirePup.
It appears that FirePup disables the stripped-down Seamonkey package that the CUPS wizard launches. Since I installed FirePup the CUPS wizard no longer works.
I launched CUPS by using http://localhost:631/ in FirePup. I was able to setup a printer that way. I don't know why the wizard uses that Seamonkey package.

Installed the printer manually -- but, downloaded and installed cupsshell.pet just in case.ttuuxxx wrote: Hi its to do with the cupsshell, I've modified it to work, I'll try to get it included with puppy 4.2.

Bad News cupshell.pet doesn't help; it seems to make the action of the CUPS wizard even worse.
Without cupshell.pet installed when the CUPS wizard is selected in the menu. The ugly unreadable purple screen appears, but CUPS doesn't start.
With the cupshell.pet installed when the CUPS wizard is selected in the menu. The ugly unreadable purple screen doesn't even appear -- Nothing happens.
Uninstalled cupshell.pet and then reinstalled the results were the same.
I don't need this fixed right now because I already installed the printer.
Thanks anyway.

First of all thanks for this nice and fully featured browser which is noticeably faster than normal firefox.
2 Questions:
First: Firepup uses about 85 MB Ram just to show the Google.com startpage according to top. Is this normal behavior? Unfortunately I didn't look for stock firefox since I don't have it installed. Top was run right after booting and right after starting firepup, no other webpages other than the startpage where visited before. I did install flashplugin 9.something though. Would it help to get rid of some of the plugins? Swiftfox comes to my mind...
Second:
How about building firepup with GTK 1.2 bindings for the next version?
It has been done with Firefox 2.0:
