URL Radio Finder tool: (from our friends over at Ubuntu Linux)

http://www.xatworld.com/radio-search/

Thanks for such a fun tool. Recommend adding it to the first post for Pupsters to test and use.

So far, every radio station I've tested using http://www.xatworld.com/radio-search/ has worked so far.

Version in use: 0.19

Note: The "Radio www" button with the hint: "Click to open your browser and choose a radio stream archive site" was not as helpful as many of the links have pop-up boxes that make finding the URL ... well, not so easy.

Other ways to play streaming media:

Command Prompt: (using mplayer)
  • Copy URL
  • Enter mplayer, a single space, then paste in the URL (my terminal allows Ctrl+Shift+V).
  • To close stream exit the terminal or use Ctrl+C
Using VLC:
  • Start VLC
  • Media > Open Network Stream (alternatively Ctrl+N)
  • Paste URL in "Open Media" box under the Network tab then click Play.
  • Continue till all desired URLs are pasted in using the same method.
  • Save list: Media > Save Playlist to File...
  • Choose a name and location to save
Play list should appear when clicking "Playlist" in the left panel.

Adding streams to VLC's "Media Library":
  • Start VLC
  • View > Playlist
  • Click "Media Library" (left side)
  • Right click in the white space (right side) > Advanced Open
  • Click the Network tab
  • Paste streaming radio URL in top text area
  • Click [Enqueue] to finish
  • Double-click entry under Media Library
The stream will start (if all went well). It will also rename the item in the list.

GNOME MPlayer:
  • Start GNOME MPlayer
  • File > Open Location... (alternatively Ctrl+L)
  • The Open Location box may spring open in an upper area of the screen
  • Paste in URL and click Open. GNOME MPlayer will begin playing the stream immediately.
  • Save list: Click the Save Playlist button in the Playlist window (if it is not visible, hit F9). The button is located just above the Play/Pause button.
  • Choose a name and location to save
This is an FYI should you have any issues with pupRadio. The command prompt is a good way to quickly find out if the stream simply won't come in.

Sorry, darry, to disappoint. 01micko published the last version of pupRadio with pupTelly 6 1/2 HUMAN years ago. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 723#685723. That's at least 46* years in technological development. Too much has changed both in the internet and the operating systems now required to access it to enable acting on your request a project for any one other than the most knowledgeable and dedicated.

* More likely several thousand (million?), but my math breaks down. As I understand it, one year in computer development is equivalent to five in mechanical development. After which change takes place geometrically rather than incrementally.

@ Darren:-

I have a sneaking suspicion that the app requires the use of a TV/DVB(?) 'tuner' stick. I know, somewhere on the forums, that Smokey 01 has recently done experiments using one of these USB gadgets.....and he's built a GUI to enable easy use of one.

Correction; I saw it in the Newsletter. If you're interested, here's the article:-

http://smokey01.com/newsletters/2018/Ju ... 018.html#7

No idea if it's any use to you, since it appears to only be for 64-bit OSs/Pups/FatDogs. But Grant explains everything you need to know in this article....

Hope that helps!

T'other Mike.

I absolutely LOVE this app. I've been using it for several years to listen to Radio L Classic Country in Leichtenstein and a few other stations.

I've made some errors and mis-entries in the Bookmarks List though and would like to edit that file if possible. Could anyone tell me where the file is located in the filesystem? I'm not able to make any error corrections through the GUI.

Presently using PupRadio in TahrPup 6.0.3 and Precise 5.7 with no other difficulty whatever. Many thanks!

Also, thank you to Darry above for the updated radio stations list.

Thank you Philh! I was unable to find the file using pFind. And there it is plain as day!

Thank you Gustavo for the url to Radio Garden. My browser isn't WebGL capable so I'll have to make some adjustments to open the resource. It does look to be very interesting.

Internet Radio is rather amazing!

Pale Moon's a nogo on my box while Chromium v81+ gives me the go ahead.

Semme,

I appreciate your suggestion for enabling WebGL in my browser.

I went through the process for Firefox and unfortunately, my graphics chip is blacklisted.

My computer is quite old and has very limited graphics capability. I can deal with h.264 up to 480p with VLC but anything higher locks it up.

I'll have to move up to a computer with a more advanced Graphics capability I reckon.

I do have another with a much better Graphics Card but it needs some work first. At least now I know what to do once I get it working.

Thanks very much for your help!
