Ok so new information: Apparently my USB keyboard/mouse do work with this newer initrd.

lsmod shows that ehci_hcd is already loaded on boot, and modprobe ehci_hcd shows no errors.

I have also tried it with a 2nd generic usb thumb drive, same issues.

although neither initrd.gz is finding the sfs file...the keyboard and mouse works with the older initrd?

Mouse/keyboard only work with the newer initrd you supplied.

With the old, mouse/keyboard lights are off; can not type anything at prompt

With the new, mouse/keyboard lights are on; able to type things!

and the sfs files are placed on the flash drive...but still aren't being found...?

there's no indicator light on either flash drive that shows rather it's on or not?

Sensei files are in /Sensei64/

The light on the drive only turns on when there is activity, it blinks when kernel and initrd load, but then stop after that.

I can even mount the flash drive from the ramdisk prompt too, and am able to access files.

Ok...so it's doing everything but finding the files on the flash drive. and u're using Grub2 still? i'm going to test it with grub2 right now...and see what i come up with.

edit:
it's working fine on mine with grub2 too. my exact menu entry is:

menuentry "Sensei64" {
set root=(hd0,1)
linux /boot/Sensei64/vmlinuz
initrd /boot/Sensei64/initrd.gz
}

i jus reuploaded Sensei64 with the updated initrd.gz. Would be nice if another user could test it on usb...and report if it successfully loaded....or ended with "sfs not found".

i also fixed the kernel panic when loading a save file on usb, added xarchiver, zip, unzip, unrar, pupsaveresize, grub4dos, and makesfs.

i fixed the issue with slim crashing sometimes and not starting X, by removing slim, and using nodm. fixed Frisbee not connecting sometimes after stopping and starting X.

the same changes are also in the Sensei isos.

interestingly when i am at initial ram disk prompt, if I run "~./init" then it finds the sendesk, senapps, sensei64_001.sfs! However after it says "copy to ram" it still leaves me at inital ram disk prompt. :(

does it appear to go through the complete 'usual' boot procedure? loading modules [ok] etc?

if so...did u try startx just to see if it would start...

by meowcats
No, it doesn't get far enough to 'finish' loading, and as far as i can tell, doesn't actually change the file system any.
startx not found ;)

i just uploaded an lxde sendesk for Sensei. For users who may happen to prefer lxde/openbox over xfce. I shrunk the size of the isos about 40 more MB and made some adjustments to keep the different desktops working neatly and without issues. So if you prefer lxde over xfce...delete or backup sendesk-xfce_001.sfs....and replace it with the sendesk-lxde_001.sfs

Also still awaiting feedback on the status of USB booting Sensei64 from another user....is it working ok for you? or are you also getting 'sfs not found'??

I know you are not waiting for me... anyway, just tried to load Sensei64 from USB-Flash (2GB).
Loads OK but it can't find the sfs file either.

Used UNetbootin to load the ISO to USB.

thanks for that efgee. guess that confirms it. i need to try it on some more machines.

r u certain unetbootin pulled the sfs files off the iso and onto the flash drive? do u see senapps or sendesk? when loading?

The USB drive has the following files:
boot.cat
initrd.gz
isolinux.bin
menu.c32
senapps64_001.sfs
sendesk64-xfce_001.sfs
sensei64_001.sfs
syslinux.cfg
ubnfilel.txt
ubnpathl.txt
vmlinuz

ok i was able to reproduce this exact same behavior by using a usbhub. FatDog64-521..still booted, but Sensei64...did the exact things mentioned by meowcats and efgee.

I was able to get it to load using this initrd.gz
md5 = 9ec2c52016dcd4ba6d8457b59aba30a8

could you two try this initrd...and see if it works correctly...

Tried the new initrd.gz file but it stuck on the same error...

BTW: I don't use a USB-hub it's just a Toshiba laptop.

efgee,

what if from that prompt you run:

Code: Select all

/init
do u then see senapps sendesk and sensei64.sfs copying to ram?

Posted: Mon 06 May 2013, 05:25
by efgee
No.
If I do "/init" the system tries to do the same: load the sensei64_001.sfs file but it doesn't work.
When I do "ls" I only see the files inside the "init" file.

makesfs error

Hi stifiling. Now with new scripts makesfs and arch2sfs opera.sfs was created and loaded ok (had to reboot to refresh menu), but the same errors during the process appears, now this example is with midnight commander:

While I'm not a beginner as such, I'm certainly not too knowledgeable and I really don't know where to start with this.

I did a manual frugal install of Sensei Full and so far am very happy with it. I love xfce!

It's on a Dell Latitude D520. Is there anything I can install that will let me have more control over the trackpad as I need to turn off taps (I'm quite heavy handed)?

Secondly, I'm considering using it to run virtual organs so I installed qjackctl and qsynth using Pacmanexpress. qjackctl/jack works but qsynth will not even start. I tried starting qsynth from the terminal and got the following error:

symbol lookup error: /lib/libreadline.so.6 undefined symbol: UP

I reinstalled readline but that made no difference.

Any ideas anyone?

Regards
Graham
