Thanks greengeek, that would work fine for people who read the forum but probably not the wider community.

BTW, when uploading an article via the Newsletter page, please add "Written by (Yourname)" at the top of the article.

smokey01,

http://www.smokey01.com/newsletters/

I downloaded the notecase edition of the newsletter- january2017.ncd.

Web links do not work if you are reading the notecase edition.
They work in the read online.

The read online is much better to read.

I suggest you only offer the online version.

I sent you my first notecase file.
All I can say is I tried.
Hope it works.
Somehow I got some wrong text in it, so i corrected and resubmitted.

Would be nice if there was a way to check what got sent to you.
Maybe put it in a download location, so we could check to make sure you got what we intended to send.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

The double click thing.

That worked to see the links.

Now I can check to see if the links I put in my notecsae submission really work.

You could create a md5sum file like:
md5sum yapi.ncd > yapi.ncd.md5.txt

Then upload that file as well. I can compare sent with received and if they match, all good.

Hello smokey01.

You probably know this already:

The simplest mailing list is to create one from your regular mail account.
You send a copy to yourself with everybody else on that list on the "blind
carbon copy (BCC)" line.

Otherwise, that I know of, there is OnlineGroups.net. It's free to start off,
but you have to pay when you reach a certain number of subscribers.
https://onlinegroups.net
https://onlinegroups.net/groups/ogn_admins/faq

OnlineGroups.net is probably overkill for the purpose of sending out a
newsletter once a month: it's more of a listserv than a straight mailing
list, really.

IHTH.

@jamesbond freelist looks like it might do the job nicely.

I've set it up now I'm just waiting for confirmation of my account. Apparently it can take up to 24 hours.

Ok, my account has been confirmed and I have it working. I just need to do a bit more testing before I go live.

You will have a choice of subscription, mail list and/or RSS.

greengeek,

An absolutely brilliant tip - thank you very much!
It's already in the Feb issue.

Please, do not put this tip to the newsletter. Let us not disclose it, so that our competitors, adversaries and enemies will not use it to their advantage. We need to be vigilant. Let us keep the newsletter superfluous, cheesy and totally void of substance - just like it is shaping up to be right now.

Hello all.

I think we forgot to have an inauguration ceremony for our Newsletter.

You know, the kind of ceremony where you invite a Medecine Man to ward
off bad spirits...

It still isn't too late, I suppose.

The email subscription and rss functionality on the Puppy Linux Newsletter page seems to work. Only time will tell.

Subscribed and got a confirmation mail.

Clicked the link in the confirmation mail and got a 'success' message for subscription to the Puppy Newsletter.

I just checked, you're in the list so it seems to be working.

The real test will be on 01 Feb 2017 when the next newsletter is published.

I'm in, as well. Is the newsletter going to eventually become like an online Puppy user database? I'm thinking it could be almost a Wiki type item in its online version. We have a Wiki or two already, though, don't we?

Anyway, the newsletter looks like a fun Puppy project!

Best,

To me a newsletter should be a place to see news about what is going on in Puppy.
New programs
New Puppy versions
New improvements
New bug fixes
New ideas for Puppy
etc.....

Some ideas:
Testimonials
spotlight or profile of Puppy developers
Educational articles
“Classic
