Thanks very much for the links, I have a better idea of what is going on with all the internationalization and localization of scripts.

I want the most important scripts and programs to be available in English, French Spanish and German, as I said. This means all programs and GUIs needed for system settings and installation must be available in the above languages.

This includes firstrun, PPM, startups, toggle-rox-desktop, desksetup, connectwizard, xorgwizard, etc..

I would also like to include Russian as much as possible, but cannot do much with it. I do have a decent enough understanding of slavic/slavonic languages to use/check Google translations are not total bull****, but the Cyrillic alphabet is really slowing me down and making it impossible at times..

If you've NOT heard of the 'Slovio' constructed language, have a look, I wish I could include that!

I do not want to waste a lot of time.
I do not want to create translations that are already available.

So I kindly request the following .mo files, if they exist:

- advert-blocker: I can't find the updated script or the translations
- pupsaveconfig 1.9.9: fr, es
- connectwizard: ru
- connectwizard_2nd: ru
- frugalinstaller 1.4: es, ru,
- grub4dosconfig-1.6.3: es, de, ru
- xorgwizard: es,
- jwm: es, fr

(Please note, I have already searched the forums as much as possible, and looked at Wary511q..
I don't think LupQ would have any extra translations...)

This is from lupu-525, I think with language pack from shinobar.

Edit: Just tested with pfix=ram: lupu-525 comes by default with localized Grub4Dos.

I can help with Russian.

#151 Post by rodin.s »

I can help with Russian. I also have some i18n gettexted scripts, but I am trying to keep them updated with latest woof for localization of resent Wary, Drake and Spup. Here's list of i18n scripts that I use in my packages. But I have made only Russian .mo-files for them. And I want to make it more compatable with sinobar's langpacks.
Also it's not always one .mo-file for one script. One .mo-file can be made for several scripts. So there is no special .mo-file for pup_advert_blocker. usr_sbin.mo used fo localizing it.
You want Spanish, German and Franch. Maybe shinobar's langpacks for wary-511q can help. I am going to look at them myself.

Thats OK, I've taken really important ones from the lang packs, such as frugalinstaller.mo, jwm.mo, grub4dosconfig.mo, etc

Thanks very much. I think I will need some corrections in what I have done ... I used Google to create some Russian translations for my custom scripts.

When I upload and share the new alpha ISO, I hope to have some translation feedback and improvements.
(in fr, de, es, ru)
I also have some i18n gettexted scripts, but I am trying to keep them updated with latest woof for localization of resent Wary, Drake and Spup. ...One .mo-file can be made for several scripts. So there is no special .mo-file for pup_advert_blocker. usr_sbin.mo used fo localizing it.
Thanks very much for those.. I will try and make them work, I also stole some of those i18n scripts from waryq as well already... I think the usr_sbin file may not work for me (but I will happily test), because many scripts included in that file are different version in wary and my puplet. I have noticed it is often easier for me without gettext, as I can then easily edit the wary and lupu .mo files when they don't work 100% correctly.

akita linux alpha 1

#154 Post by sc0ttman »

OK, I have an Akita Linux Alpha 1 ISO ..

NOTE: sfs3!! k2.6.25.16... Do NOT use with a Wary/Lupu SFS or save file!!

download here: http://www.multiupload.com/9FUAVYF5CS (lots of mirrors)
Size is 86mb, md5 is 40ae8d16cbed43c387c409b439e579df

EDIT: NLS update attached here

- more translations in .desktops files
- browser-installer i18n'd
- pup-advert-blocker i18n'd

Problems: Many I guess..

EDIT 2: /usr/sbin/startups is broken.. Fixed version attached here (remove extension and put in /usr/sbin)

Note, I already fixed quite a few things listed below...

- MAJOR problem: click on a .pet - it will ALWAYS install, even when you click 'ABORT'
- Xvesa doesnt work
- still need to add MUs fix for multiple screens
- bootmanager translation errors (fixed.. but translations still mostly crap)
- xorgwizard does not autostart Xvesa (fixed)
- translations are like to be incomplete and laughable in places, if not all over
- sns, net-setup, frisbee not localised
- /usr/sbin/ipinfo is missing
- lost settings of network/audio/graphics at reboot?
- bad opera fonts now fixed??
- way too many apps in the main JWM menu (I think so anyway)
- very few translations in the /usr/share/applications/*.desktop files
- 'Exit to prompt' simply restarts X (wmexit needs looking at!)
- desksetup will force ROX desktop icons back to English (cant seem to fix it.. nearly there)
- termit feels slow (it is the default terminal in geany, ROX 'terminal' icon and JWM Apps menu)
- possible conflicts between network managers frisbee mostly ..

Changes since last ISO: (a summary):

I've downloaded the iso. I'll try to translate .mo files. But it's not really mo-files. It's text files like in Zigbert's apps. I got used to gettext and I think it's easier to translate (with poedit). With text files I need to have two files: en.mo and ru.mo.
Pup_advert_blocker doesn't work.

I've downloaded the iso. I'll try to translate .mo files.

Thanks ... It should be easy enough to just open the russian .mo (text) files and correct the grammar mistakes and maybe some mis-translated or untranslated words.

I would really appreciate it... :) I know enough to find keywords like 'reklama', 'pomoc**', 'posta', 'media', 'this is', 'which is' etc... but I cannot do more than check phrases have some of the right words!

Sorry for not using gettext, I have read a lot of others on shinobars threads saying poedit was a bit too difficult, and I have yet to repackage poedit shinobars to make it work nicely.
Pup_advert_blocker doesn't work.
Hmmm... working fine for me.. I don't think I have updated it since the ISO was uploaded (maybe I did), same as the version in the update pet (using russian right now, it is bit slower to update the ad-list, but working...)

Maybe you dont have a working internet connection? (maybe likely if its wireless)

Thanks very much rodin.s, it is much appreciated.

Just to note to any testers, since the ISO was uploaded:

- I have also i18n'd desksetup (en, fr, es, de, ru)..
- I have found Xvesa problems in xwin, and fixed them.
- I have added a tiny update to xorgwizard, so Xvesa runs automatically after its chosen.
- I got pmount, xwin, rc.sysinit and others to run using ash, not bash (may revert some)
- I updated PupControl to 1.6.0 and hacked it for better Akita support
- I updated pup-advert-blocker, again .. seems to be much faster now.
- updated ipinfo (+tazocs fix) and sysinfobox to radkys versions
- updated /usr/sbin/pupscan, input-wizard, xserverwizard to newer versions, also now using gtkdialog3
- fixed some errors produced by boot manager translation files
- added ash friendly version of 01mickos code, which randomises hostname if needed, at boot

NOTE: I need to get my hands on a tiny printf binary to complete the ash stuff and I am yet to look into technos work xinit stuff, but I will have a look soon.

busybox has a printf
let me know if you need some tweaks to "x", it will compile with dietlibc
btw I did try to implement waitfordisplay as a shell script but along the way I learned that the shell gets its environment upon startup or from the parent ... thus $DISPLAY never appears ... thus reverting to C

while I was on a C coding spree I also threw together a small tool similar to xmessage (called xcbmsg)
it doesn't have buttons or return any exit codes, but uses less than half the resources of xmessage.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70772
I am thinking about porting the meh image viewer to xcb next.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

Yeah, but not the busybox in initrd.gz, which is where I need it.

Once I've had a good look at it, and tried not to be thick, I will let you know.. After editing Xorgwizard and xwin, I realised how confusing I find it all!

I just saw that before coming here, looks nice.. I actually went the other way and symlinked xmessage to gxmessage, just so it all looks more uniform.. But I will definitely have a look at it, and see where I can use it. best.

I am dense. Akita is that the official name for Puplite 6.0 Alpha
when it goes official as Akita Puppy something?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Russian mo-txt files

#162 Post by rodin.s »

I've made some mo-files for Russian. I have also added puppy-desktop.mo and pmount.mo and have changed a little xorgwizard.mo.
pup_advert_blocker didn't work because there was no .mo-file for chosen locale (Russian). It works with .mo-file. I guess it should switch to English mo-file when mo-file of chosen locale is not found.

Exactly that... I am not too bothered about the name, but it will be called "Akita Linux" when I release it...

But you make a good point!
I actually just released the "Akita Linux - Alpha 1" ISO (not, not "puplite alpha 19", or whatever)

..so I guess I should rename the thread!

Thanks rodin.s, you da man! I only feel safe to use the translations knowing that you have looked at them and approved them!

**
EDIT: Having a look now, great work indeed! Very nice.. :D

But the following is missing from bootmanager, probably I did not include it in the English .mo file!!

Code: Select all

Loc_services1="Manage system services"
Loc_services2="Edit the processes which start at bootup and run continuously in the background."
Loc_services3="Choose which system services to run at startup:"
Loc_services4="Untick a checkbox to prevent service from running at startup"
**

Like you, I also noticed that shinobars i18n code does not include the 'en' .mo files as a backup, but MUs 'simple localization' code does do that.. I will change shinobars code, so that the English .mo is included, then the localised one. I already updated pup-advert-blocker to do this, and will be going through other scripts to add the same fix.

But.... 'puppydesktop.mo' should already be on the ISO!! I was using a Russian desktop for days .. I've no idea if it is correctly translated or not, but I think you made it, so I am assuming it's perfect ;)

I wonder about Akita. I guess you have to point out that it is a puppy version. Based on puppy 420 maybe should be pointed out up front :)

Apart from that it feels good to be able to put together something that actually works what is different about Akita.

What feature do you like best or strive for to accomplish?

That it is lean and mean? 85 mb is small indeed. VLC works and pics through viewnior works too so it looks good so far.

when it goes official as Akita Puppy something?
Exactly that... I am not too bothered about the name, but it will be called "Akita Linux" when I release it...

But you make a good point!
I actually just released the "Akita Linux - Alpha 1" ISO (not, not "puplite alpha 19", or whatever)

..so I guess I should rename the thread!
I am writing from within Akita now. Downloaded FF 3.6 but it did not have Flash as the others usually have built in.

No big deal most people seems to know how to act in such circumstances.

Managed to find a driver for my Atheros LAN card.

Have not tested much else.
