gday
after much digging I have found out what is causing this..
my apologies to the community...
It not my computer; nor set-up; (ZAPPDOG - I use the Terminal just to check to see if all libraries, etc work); nor the personal file space; nor my dodgy typing thumbs....
apparently its my ISP and a number of the Australian community have experienced this same issues with said ISP - neither is help given by said ISP...
I am changing ISP in a couple of months - so will try BOINC then... <Sigh!>
BAH! too many hours wasted!!!
cheers
Martin

I want to download the boinc pet but it is asking for a username and password. Am I doing something stupid or is there something wrong with the link?

Hi Folks

Okay, I've got BOINC running and I have added seti@home. Now I'm trying to run Show Graphics from the BOINC manager but I'm getting an error in the console:

execv: Permission denied

Can someone perhaps help - I don't quite know yet what I'm doing when it comes to BOINC

Thanks
Jannetta

G'day,
Similar question to Janetta except with a slight twist... I am not able to get the graphics going - I don't get a message or anything - it just doesn't work.
Is there a way to enable to graphics to work in seti? or
Is the graphics enabled in Linux BOINC? - I've checked posts dated 2004 that it wasn't - I suspect things have changed..

Cheers
Martin

BOINC updated to have a more automatic startup (thanks Anti) without modifying rc.local and to fix it not working on new installs.

If your upgrading from a previous BOINC, then go into /etc/rc.d/rc.local and delete the BOINC startup line:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/BOINC/run_client &

Hi guys. I'm running Boinc no prob.....but.....I am limited in disk space. I have preferences set no problem to 10 GB but when I look at the disk it only has a couple of hundred MB in use. So I'm confused. Is Puppy limiting my available disk space somehow? Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question or has already been addressed somewhere.
Chris.

BOINC updated to 6.10.17.

if your upgrading, remove old boinc from petget manager, then install this one and reboot. =)

line in /etc/rc.d/rc.local is no longer needed. Remove it if it is there.

SFS

Would it be possible to make a SFS of Boinc, so it doesn't take up space in the pupsave?

Thanks

So I've downloaded and installed the Boinc PET, and it works, sorta.

I'm unable to change the working directory so Boinc believes that only 230MB are available to it. Curiously the total disk space reported by Boinc is about 470MB which corresponds to no physical space available on the system. RAM is 1GB, PupSave is 1.2GB and the USB stick is 8GB. I've got no idea where it is getting 470MB total disk space available??

How do you change the working directory?
