Why does puppy use such an outdated version of ms-sys? It uses version 2.1.2 which is not compatible with Vista or Windows 7. I have compiled the newest version 2.2.1 and it works great on Puppy after removing the built in one and installing the new one.

DPUP, if you do share, please put it in the Additional Software section under Utilities and link to it from this thread. Thanks. :)

Wow.
There has been at times some talk about restoring the MBR.
A lot of solutions have been proposed always.

But if I understand well, ms-sys is right under own nose and does the job.
Surprising that puppy.

Don't forget to use "Remove Builtin Packages" tool before installing this version

I echo Beem's WOW.

This is why we need a Puppy Reference Guide to tell us what is in Puppy (and how to use it!).

Why do we need to remove the built in package? Doesn't the PET layer over the old version if we have a pupsave file?

@ICPUG yes it should theoretically but i've seen some problems with just overwriting programs with new versions with error messages or leaving behind unnecessary files, example: I overwrote ntfs-3g with a newer version and whenever I tried to copy files between an ntfs partition and ext I started getting error messages even though everything copied fine, I went back to an old save and removed ntfs-3g and installed the newer version and everything worked fine.

You're right again Brian. I'd like to nominate anyone and everyone to get to work and make this Puppy Reference Guide.
