When I go to http://www.dol.gov/vets/ and download a file Final Vets Guide in puppy pb4.3 it just crashes. But my wife is using puppylinux 4.2 she has no problem with it.

Now on puppylinux pb4.3 ePDF reader is 0,1.6 but in puppylinux 4.2 it is 0.1.7 and that is what I think is the problem.

Specs: Asus eee 900/4.3 prebeta pps/frugal install on 4gb Kingston SD card

Trying to power off or reboot, during the puppy save process, I get a strange error:

"Modprobe fatal /sys is not mounted"

This appears to have no effect on the actual save or the subsequent reboot into puppy.

Has anybody ever seen this before? Google tells me that it's found in other linux OS's, but with severe effects, such as inability to boot, etc.

Downloaded ppa422 and usual problem with that kernel, it will not recognise the wireless keyboard so I can go no further than 'country' menu. :(

Downloaded pps422 and success, now posting from it. :D

All seems OK so far.

Just downloaded and ran ppa-422.iso.

Frugal install on NTFS.

When I fsck the ppasave.2fs file from puppy 412, I get:

Code: Select all

/dev/loop2 was not cleanly unmounted, check forced.
It appears that rc.shutdown is not cleanly umounting the pupsave filesystem.

This problem was present in 4.1.n and 4.2.n, and it's still here.

Wallpaper setter is not right...

Yeah, Barry you already stated that the reshape function is not working, but it produces new file ORIGINAL-xxx.jpg everytime a wallpaper is changed. And the ORIGINAL-xxx.jpg is listed in the tree box, imagine that it is chosen, then you will get ORIGINAL-ORIGINAL-xxx.jpg and so on...

Just a little workaround, not really a fix. /usr/local/pstreamvid/functions, line 14:

Code: Select all

      NEWCHANNEL=`cat /usr/local/pstreamvid/channels/$CHANNEL`
	  exec gxine --geometry +0+0 "$NEWCHANNEL" &
and

/root/.config/gxine/config, line 27:

Code: Select all

gui.window_size:200%
It will make gxine to open 200% window and right at top left corner, but not really full screen streched.

Edited.

Running frugal install of ppa-422 on NTFS.

Remove some "release" items from the desktop.
Reboot, they're not there, (as expected).
Add or remove an sfs file from boot, and reboot, oops, they're all back again, (definitely not as expected).

Problem has existed it at least previous 4.n puppies.

This could be an answer to problem with gXine full screen from command line ( -f option) in 430 pre-beta or also any other puppy series 4.xx with old JWM

Updated to v 1.2
changelog:
- auto detect mplayer as default engine (if available)
- Fullscreen off and on function for both gxine and mplayer
- in gxine when fullscreen off, it will play 200% window (max) at top-left of screen
- Refresh fields after adding new channel
- A little changes on GUI to make buttons more understandable
- New working channels

Please confim this:

I had a USB flashcard reader in whilst booting
Got an error 19 Grub message (think it was 19)
Which meansi Puppy tried to boot from the flash card (a good thing)
but because there was no card it stopped
It might be possible to carry on booting after a set time by trying other boot devices?
I think this is to do with a 'dirty hack' that I read about

Just a minor reminder in case it is important.
Removing USB flash reader and rebooting is the cure incidentally . . .

I just spotted a few things, but have no idea whether these things are huge or inconsequential.

I decided to build pps-422 locally, by first doing a woof_2009-07-17 (puppy) build, with the intent to then use the 417-to-422 patch.

But after running 1download, before running 2createpackages, I carefully compared the contents of packages-pet-4 against the pet_packages-4/ repository on ibiblio.

The following discrepancies caught my eye:

1download placed bdb-4.4.20.pet in packages-pet-4. But I see that the repository additionally carries bdb-4.7.25.pet and bdb-DEV-4.7.25.pet. Note that name should be bdb_DEV-4.7.25.pet, to maintain consistency with the commonest form. (but, see next message)

1download placed curl-7.17.1.pet in packages-pet-4. But the repository carries curl-7.19.4-pup4.pet and curl_DEV-7.19.4-pup4.pet.

1download placed ffmpeg-20071007-1.pet and ffmpeg_DEV-20071007-1.pet in packages-pet-4, and these are the newest-timestamped versions in the repository, but I'm curious why we are not using ffmpeg-20080731-i486.pet and ffmpeg_DEV-20080731-i486.pet.

1download placed freetype-2.3.5.pet in packages-pet-4, but the repository carries freetype-2.3.8.pet and freetype_DEV-2.3.8.pet in addition to an apparent mistake, freetype-DEV-2.3.8.pet. (but, see next message)

Geany is missing from packages-pet-4 but I see we have replaced it with medit. I was away when that happened. I know that the End key in Geany in 4.21 works wrong, it takes the insertion point to the end of the paragraph rather than the line, so am not surprised that Geany is gone.

1download placed lame-3.97.pet and lame_DEV-3.97.pet in packages-pet-4, but the repository carries lame-3.98.2.pet and lame-DEV-3.98.2.pet. Note inconsistency in use of hyphen and underscore before DEV in the DEV package's naming.

1download placed neither libdvdnav-0.1.10.pet nor libdvdnav_DEV-0.1.10.pet in packages-pet-4. Shouldn't they be included?

1download placed libexif-0.6.16.pet and libexif_DEV-0.6.16.pet in packages-pet-4, but the repository also carries libexif-0.6.17.pet and libexif-DEV-0.6.17.pet (Note inconsistency in use of hyphen and underscore before DEV in the DEV package's naming).

There are several "Prescott" versions of libs in the repository, I have no idea what the distinction is, which are not placed in packages-pet-4 by 1download, for example 1download placed libglade-2.6.2.pet in packages-pet-4 but not libglade-2.6.3-prescott.pet nor libglade_DEV-2.6.3-prescott.pet. There is no libglade_DEV-2.6.2.pet.

1download placed libgnomecups-0.2.2-pup4.pet and libgnomecups_DEV-0.2.2-pup4.pet in packages-pet-4, and these do have the latest (June 28) timestamp, but I am curious why we are not using libgnomecups-0.2.3-pup4.pet and libgnomecups_DEV-0.2.3-pup4.pet.

1download placed libpng-1.2.22-patched1-pup4.pet and libpng_DEV-1.2.22-patched1-pup4.pet in packages-pet-4, and these do have the latest (June 28) timestamp, but I am curious why we are not using the repository's libpng-1.2.34.pet and libpng-1.2.34-dev.pet (note error in naming libpng_DEV-1.2.34.pet).

1download placed libsigc++-2.1.1.pet in packages-pet-4, but not libsigc++_DEV-2.1.1.pet.

lxrad both regular and DEV is entirely missing from packages-pet-4, don't know if this is intentional or not.

tcl-8.5.6-v1.pet and tcl-8.5.6-v1-DEV.pet are entirely missing from packages-pet-4, don't know if this is intentional or not. Note mistake in naming the DEV.

tk-8.5.6.pet and tk-8.5.6-v1-DEV.pet are entirely missing from packages-pet-4, don't know if this is intentional or not. Note mistake in naming the DEV.

xorg_xorg_full_dri_DEV-7.3.pet is missing from packages-pet-4, I know that the regular distro uses xorg_base, but wouldn't it be prudent to build full into the devx? --and, same argument about xvidcore_DEV-1.1.3-i486.pet?

Respectfully,
SHS the Meticulous

I should also here note, that both gposil and yours truly have observed, in this thread, that Puppy Package Manager has a tendency to choke on PET package names that have an underscore in them. I have no idea how relevant this is to Woof, but, with reference to the above message, perhaps the -DEV naming convention is the preferable one.

Hi,
[ ppa422 live-cd + saved session ] do not boot on PC with GRUB multiboot.
details:
have burned cd-rw multisession with ppa-422.iso
boot OK on first live-cd boot
have set keyboard, GMT, etc...
have saved "save to cd" at shutdown

I do not understand why the PC does boot.

I boots on another PC with only windowsxp installed.
I already had the case on earlier 417.
Does anyone has an axplanation.
Cheers

Hi
Full install of Puppy 422
Tried modprobe nfs - result
# modprobe nfs
FATAL: Error inserting nfs (/lib/modules/2.6.29.6/kernel/fs/nfs/nfs.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg
There also appears to be some related modules missing. (exportfs etc)

P.S. Could JWM please be upgraded to include window re-sizing from the top.
