darry1966 and mikeb, Thank you both however gsopcast is now only a distant memory.

It is good to know that there is a mplayer out there that works.

Here old threads never die.... bit like old software

Well done. Have it running in the background as I type this. I started it with gmplayer in the console.

I have three questions though.

1. When I try to go to full screen the picture remains the same size but there are black bands all around to fill out to the full screen size. In other words the picture does not expand to full screen.

2. When playing a .avi file I get the following popup message:

Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected

3. When playing a .flv file I get the following popup message:

skipping flv packet: type 18, size 2141`1, flags 0

Any ideas?

For 1. (ability to zoom)

In /root/.mplayer/config add

zoom=1

You might also have to open mplayer and select EDIT, PREFERENCES, select the 'mplayer' tab and enter -zoom in the EXTRA OPTIONS TO MPLAYER option.

Ok sounds like its set to X11 rather than xv for video output OR you are using vesa/xvesa.... means you have no accelerated stretching.

Look in the preferences under video.

2 and 3 are badly made videos (2 is a common problem when encoding on windows and 3 is corrupted flv conversions)....unfortunately they are all to common.... I have never looked but there may be a parameter to supress warning messages. loglevel= one comes to mind.... if it helps you could add it to whatever launches gmplayer .
Most of the time its a case of click ok and carry on....

Could you repackage that in new sfs? tried to use it in Q7-April64 and the sfs was too old.

Does april not have the sfs converter ... oh well..

Anyway for such bleeding edge you might prefer the gmplayer built from the same sources as the one in lucid instead.

nope and instead of adding it back BK is just going to remove that warning reference to the menu item ( as per April64 thread )

You are quite correct - I have set video to x11. If I set xv I get the following popup:

Yes it is simply a matter of click and go. The videos play OK.

you definitely do not have a proper video driver... will take much more cpu to do the job...recommended to sort out.

I looked up on the nvidia site and downloaded the appropriate driver.

When I started to install a popup told me I needed ldconfig and glibc.

Checked what was required for ldconfig - to cut a long story short I decided not to bother.

The CPU seems to be able to do the job ...

Ok if you go to nvidia it builds the driver from you...but then you need kernel sources and devx etc....

Its usually much easier to get one already built for your puppy.... just one that matches the version you downloaded.

Apart from video acceleration you have full screen acceleration for flash and 3d game ability.

But only if you want such things.

Exactly why I didn't bother.

Well in an ideal world it would be just a pet but these seems to be a little hard to find I have noticed.

Chasing too many new kernels at a guess.
