5.8.2. UPGRADE

#162 Post by sszindian »

Allowed the 'UpGrade' to auto perform from Tahrpup-5.8.1.5 to Tahrpup-5.8.2-SCSI All appeared to go well except for the usual change back to the new default background and default desktop icons... No big deal to pt back the new ones however, probably not a nice thing for a NEW user to Puppy... An option to retain your current config'd OLD desktop or install the NEW desktop would be a nice feature in the UPDATE. Puppy has been like this forever so maybe someone can change that?

If you want to use- Google_Earth-6.0.3.2197-luki.sfs in Tahrpup go to-

/opt/google/earth/free/

When there, rename the 'libcurl.so.4' file to something else like- OLD-libcurl.so.4

This will allow the 'search function' to work properly at the googleearth main page.

So far all's looking good!!!

It seems Tahrpup doesn't have ffmpeg, required by some apps. I had no luck trying the Trusty Tahr repos. Is there a pet of ffmpeg for Tahrpup?

hi vicmz

see this http://askubuntu.com/questions/432542/i ... s-in-14-04

the static builds linked to there fire up ... or you could try symlinking /usr/bin/libav stuff calling it ffmpeg

tahrpup 5.8.3 uploaded

this tahr is built using the new build method that allows easy changing of kernels.

it ships with kernel 3.14.11 but you can easily change it by downloading a new one from the 'kernels-huge' folder (in my dropbox) unzipping it and copying the vmlinuz & zdrive.sfs over the ones in your install directory.
there's four to choose from 3.12.22, 3.14.11, 3.15.4 & 3.9.94no pae from slacko. or build your own using the kernel kit in woof-ce

i've also added 'quickpet' although not everything is working at the moment.

hello @666PhilB

Testing TahrPUP running in a KVM capable PC, shows a good speed increase in TahrPUP. But, there is a nagging issue that I wonder if you would consider resolving.

Video driver
The OOTB video card of a KVM virtual guest PC has a Cirrus card emulated. All other PUPs tested have a Cirrus module/driver and when the guests boot, they all find the Cirrus card and use it.

But, in TahrPUP,this is not occurring and there is no way to get X desktop via console of TahrPUP.

Fortunately, QEMU offers an option (-vga std) to set the VM guest PC as VESA video. Below is screenshots of QEMU setup for VESA and using FirstRUN to change the video map to match my 4X3 monitor from the TahrPUP default for a 16X10 origin.

Hope this is helpful

Nice :)

Good to see the new woof infrastructure working. Was it much hassle and if so what was the problem? (feel free to PM, email or post on the woof nabble forum or github).

It's really funny looking at a comparison of PUI (old) and the one I have been working on for a week. I have to get my finger out and commit the work!

Cheers!

ffconvert-1.4.2

#176 Post by shinobar »

Thanks for the TahrPup 583.
The ffconvert in tahrpup 583 does not work.
The latest vrsion ffconvert-1.4.2 does work.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=54056

Still have some issue with MPEG4-AVC.
TharPup does not have libfaac. Use ac3 instead for the audio codec.

I hope this patch, applied to the Ubuntu 14.0.4, against the kernel which enables some pentium M hidden PAE.

I just tested 'dir2pet' and both gz (default) and xz compression work fine and the pets install. Could you possibly mean 'new2dir'?

666philb. The default gtk-theme high-lighting doesn't have enough contrast.

I did new2dir make install and when it got to the point where you press a key to create the pet I pressed the key and went into another window and ran PPM to install applications while I was waiting.
After PPM was finished (I'd guess 20 minutes) I went back to the original workspace expecting the pet had been created but it was still working.
I did ctrl-c to stop it and then did dir2pet on the wine-1.7.22-i686 directory and it ran for quite a while until I hit ctrl-c to stop it again, maybe too impatient.

I just compiled fltk then dillo-3.0.4 and the dillo pet was created no problem with the usual new2dir script.

Maybe the size of wine and my impatience but I made wine pets in Slacko 593 and earlier tahrpup's and had no problems at all, took a little longer I guess but did the job.
