2. It's impossible to blank a CD or DVD using sr1, as pburn 3.5 only looks at sr0 for this task.
You can choose burner device in the burn-option dialog or permanent in the preferences
Ok. That works, thanks.
3. There's no option to verify a copy of a data disc in pburn 3.5
It is not possible (as far as I know) to verify when burning multisession. You have to choose to close the disc to get the verify option in the finish dialog..... more in help file.
Nope. I wasn't burning an iso, but "copying a data disk". So far as I know, there was no option to burn multisession, and indeed the original disk I copied wasn't multisession either. Nor do I recall an option to "close the disk".

Ofcourse you could just copy it to remote machine via network, or to a local USB stick...
That assumes that I have a remote machine or a USB stick with enough spare capacity to receive the data, and in the case of the former that the network connection is reliable enough for backup purposes (it probably isn't).

The truly mission-critical stuff had been copied to other machines ages ago, the stuff I ended up burning to disc was more in the category "would be nice to salvage" or were save files from games. Pburn came in handy very after XP wouldn't boot at all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_software
Application software, also known as an application or an "app", is computer software designed to help the user to perform specific tasks.
It certainly fits that definition of an "app".
What definition are you using?

Apologies for brief report, will give more detail later. I installed and ran Pburn 3.5.1 on my K6-2 500 on an assortment of versions of Puppy, including some pfix=ram boots. On pfix=ram boots I did the basic setup without installing anything other than Pburn 3.5.1. Brief computer specs relevant to the test are:-

System is 'Zhaan', my K6-2 500 machine. See sig for details.
Burner is Sony CRX100E. Secondary Master. Usually sr0.
Secondary slave is Hitachi GD-5000, a DVD-ROM drive. Usually sr1.

On this system, Pburn correctly identifies the burner device on the fresh installs as well as the previously existing ones. Upon accepting the initial dialogue it goes through as normal and correctly shows the status of the current disc. I have burnt a Wary 5.2.2 ISO to a Memorex 1x-4x CDRW, successfully booted pfix=ram from that disc and installed Pburn 3.5.1.

I will test the Pentium D tomorrow. This is a potentially tricky setup with no primary ATA drives, a DVD writer as Secondary ATA Master and a DVD-ROM drive as Secondary ATA Slave. The HDD, which is Tertiary Master, is a dodgy SATA unit. The machine is currently booted from a LiveCD with a Pupsave on a USB stick.

OK, done the tests on the other machine. Details below.

'Merlin', Pentium D 3.4 GHz.
Burner device is LITE-ON SHM-165P6S. ATA Secondary Master, sr0.
DVD-ROM drive is an MSI StarSpeed 16x. ATA Secondary Slave, sr1

On this machine too Pburn's guess as to which was the burner was correct. Interestingly, it seems that on the pfix=ram boots I've tested on both machines Puppy sets sr1, as both /dev/crdom and dev/dvd although in my case this doesn't seem to matter. The burners in both machines are the master device so Pburn's seeming default of sr0 will be correct every time.

Oddly, the mainboard in my Pentium D classes the SATA channel as Tertiary, so if the only burner in the machine was a SATA device and I still had the DVD-ROM drive on the Secondary ATA controller the burner would probably be classed as sr1 - assuming that Puppy works from Primary Master up over to assign ids.

Thank you for this feedback. It is very valuable to Pburn.

Be aware that Pburn does not rely on the OS's detection of opticals. I don't anything about that subject. Pburn only has a silly detection if the name of the device contains RW/writer.

Ok, now I can close this case and move on. In fact, I already did today......

Drove the 40km to the nearest civilization to buy a BD-RE disc. Pburn should by now support BD-R and BD-R doublelayer, but BD-RE has never been tested. - You know what, I did not find any disc to buy!!! (this is 2012). In one of the stores the guy told: "those disc are extremely rare and _very_ expensive." - I wonder if he meant he was the one to pay?

Some experiences reminds me how far out I live.

still can't copy audio disk, now can't save burn log either

Just tried the audio disk copy function in 3.5.1 for the first time. It failed with an "unknown error" popup. I tried first at the slowest speed, on the fly, then on auto also on the fly, with the same result. The target disk remained a blank RW according to the 'info" tool.

Each time I tried to save the log, and when I did, it showed a nice new log name format, which wouldn't save.

I then tried a third time, but modified the file name, taking out the hours and minutes and the colons, and then it saved:

For the benefit of Pburn, it would be good if you tested another burner app with the same burner. Like this, I would 'know' if it is Pburn or your hardware that is the trouble.
