1. root system password is "woofwoof" but don't know if CUPS accepts it
I never needed password for setting up my printer I just go to add printer and it never asks me for password

2. "startx startkde"

Thank you for the quick respond, dejan555!

CUPS does not accept the password and I'll look for another reason for my problem with the printer and ask in another topic.
I have no problem to add a printer but it doesn't start printing.
I suspect the driver is not working well, because it is not for the same Star printer model. I hoped in administration section will be something usefull to fix the problem.

KDE starts just fine now :)

Thanks one more time!

Hey Dejan, a new Trinity release came out recently and I decided to give it a second chance with Puppy.

The old Trinity packages I made were re-packaged DEB packages and I remember your KDE SFS was smaller, so I decided to build a new Trinity on Puppy.

So far I've got Qt3, tqtinterface and aRTs, but kdelibs refuses to build for some reason. I'm trying to get it to build fine, because this one and kdebase are everything I need to have a working desktop :)

I also want to a Trinity dpup experiment, with kdpup as my inspiration

Cool Iguleder, yeah I saw your post in trinity sfs thread, hope you get them to compile. I can test your sfs on some recent puppy and new kdpup would be cool but I can't build upon recent puppies 'cause I'm pretty much stuck on dpup 485 on this machine as my main puppy. Not that I'm complaining - I have all the apps I need still working quite nicely here :D

Hi, dejan555, I'm running a remastered copy of KDPup-484 and I want to compile some packages. Do you know which version of DEVX sfs is compatible?
I found dpup-devx-484.sfs and dpup-devx-484-b4.sfs here:
http://www.smokey01.com/01micko/dpup/
http://www.smokey01.com/CatDude/temp/
But they aren't working. The SFS conversion tool gives a message they are not compatible with Kernel 2.6.30.5
Thanks!

saintless they should work AFAIK, since I used dpup 484 as base, devx for it should be compatible, see if you can click to mount them, if you can then conversion is not needed.

No, I can't mount them. I'll download them again and will try to find another mirrors and check the md5sum.
I will also try to install them with SFS installer,
Tomorrow I'll report back.
Thanks, dejan555 :)

It was a bad download, dejan555
This DEVX sfs works fine with the original and remastered KDPup-484:

I also was afraid I did something wrong with the remastered CD. :)
Best regards!

This is a really awesome Puppy. Granted it's not perfect, it's a beta with some missing icons, but wow: Audacity, lmms, etc. I don't know if there is much to add to this besides maybe a lot of games, but games are not essential for usage.

Is there any kind of battery applet I could install for this? I tried one which works in a lot of Puppies, but not in this one, maybe because it's KDE.

Otherwise it just crashes when the battery runs out with no warning.

Hi Mini-Jaguar,
I can't test any of those solutions because I don't use laptop, but here is some information about this problem which may help you:
http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package. ... ptopdaemon
http://forums.opensuse.org/archives-des ... 5-3-a.html
the directory from this link in KDPup will be:
/root/.kde/share/services/kded
but I don't see klaptopdaemon.desktop file.

Quick question, I know you guys like your KDE but wouldn't it make more sense to use razor-qt with Kwin?

A person could still use KDE apps.

I haven't test Razor-Qt. Is there some Puppy with Razor-Qt + Kwin?
With KDPup we can use all KDE applications with JWM or IceWM desktop.
Not only with KDE

Thanks for answering these questions saintless, been busy lately so don't have much time to check, glad to see people still use kdpup though :)
mini-jaguar, have you gone through settings/control panel in kde or I think it should be option for kicker (taskbar) to add battery applet too.

Scsijon, whose working on qtpup is developing the razorqt-kwin for his upcoming Pup.

If you have questions about it, you should ask him. Perhaps you two can collaborate.

Thanks, Gnuxo,
I'm not sure if I can be of real help for the developer but who knows...
I will do some testing of this alpha QTpup.

It is strange... I haven't tried the light version but with the full version on a different computer I had a message from Puppy universal installer it can not find the files on CD-Rom drive. To solve this I had to show the path to the files manual. As far as I remember you can simple open the CD-Rom and drug and drop the initrd or vmlinuz file from there to the path asking window. This should be enough to solve this problem.

You can also copy manual the files after you boot the live CD and then you can change grub menu list. I prefer to do this because it takes less time than Universal installer process.

To change the SFS location before booting you can type E when grub menu list appear. Then you can change the path to the file by hitting E again and Enter. Then you can boot the edited grub entry with B.

P. e. when I boot from lupus live CD I can type "puppy pupsfs=sdb1:/OS kdpup/kdpup/kdpup-484.sfs" ( or st similar ), and it works ( with lupus kernel? )

I think if I could give sfs-s name and location with hand... What file 'knows' kdpup-484.sfs-s name? Because it search this file so one of files knows this name...

( I tried this way frugal install this way, and I dont want to sacrifice a CD. )

( H is GRUB is same the other pups GRUB (qtpuppy, macpup), and they work with this settings: )

Code: Select all

 rootnoverify (hd1,0)
  kernel /OS/kdpup/vmlinuz psubdir=/OS/kdpup/ pmedia=atahd nosmp
  initrd /OS/kdpup/initrd.gz
