Yesterday I sent MochiMoppel a PM thanking him for his scripts «which work well here», but admitting my ignorance and seeking his help on how and where to make use of them.

Here is the important extract from his most helpful reply:
If you need to enter it with your keyboard you should use its Unicode codepoint. Press Ctrl+Shift+U00a3 and then Enter.
Not all browsers support Unicode input, but most do.
I tried quite a few (not 00A3) in abiword, to good effect - thanks again MochiMoppel (especially as you may be affected by the typhoon).

Works also in leafpad. Abiword's "Insert Symbol" dialog can be useful to generate Unicode characters that are not on your keyboard but it won't give you the codepoints.

Thanks for your concerns. When even the convenience stores close you know it will be bad. It was windy, wet and scary but fortunately, apart from uprooted trees, no major damages here.
