You are using Linux, you are NOT average. Average people use m$ windoze because they don't know any better.

Downloaded and burned the GamePup iso with no problems. It is wonderful. Enjoyed playing the different games. Thank you so very much. My husband and I are big PC game players (only on Linux, of course). You included most of my favorite games, especially SuperTux!

Only problem I found was when I tried to do a frugal install. The Universal Installer copied all the files, but never continued with the GRUB bootloader. I had to click on that separately and still it wouldn't install in the partition I had selected. I already have LILO installed in my MBR so wanted GRUB installed onto the partition. After several tries, it completely wiped my ext3 partition (even the lost & found folder). I ended up deleting the partition and recreating it. Haven't tried reinstalling. May just run it from the CD. Works great from the Live-CD with a pup_save file.

Once again, great job on a great gaming Puppy. Thank You! :D

ChiJoan wrote:Hello,

The first time I got it from his location and had to use my WinXP PC to do it. No good as Roxio didn't make a bootable image. This last time I found it briefly with some other Puppy CD files and burned it with Xandros 4 to reveal this error on booting it:

Boot: Loading isolinux: Disk error D3, AX=425B, drive 9F

Looking forward to getting a good image made someday, is there something I did wrong?

Thanks,
ChiJoan
Did you verify the MD5 checksum?
Things like that can happen with corrupt images (bad download)... things like that happen from time to time.

If you go to www.portableapps.com, you can find a program called winMD5sum... very handy (for winXP)

As for me, I burned it with Nero... no problems.

Linux Game console Emulators

While going through my bookmarks, I found 2 pages that contain some videogame console emulators that might be worth checking out.

http://www.usinglinux.org/emulators/
and
http://www.linuxlinks.com/Software/Emulators/

There must be some that will work in Pup with minimal work...

wget -c http://www.ecomoney.eu/ecopup/iso/ecopup0.7.1.iso

This should do it even if your connection is interrupted.

Upgrading GamesPup216

Posted: Tue 11 Sep 2007, 17:13
by Brian Weber
I've found that this software can be easily upgraded to the latest version of Puppy Linux, 2.17.1 using the Puppy Linux installer and selecting upgrade.

All of the games in GamesPup216 are retained and work!! Additional games from version 2.17.1 are added to the games menu. The game launcher still works.

I first changed my GamesPup216 desktop to JWM by exiting to the command prompt and typing startx JWM then I did the bugrade using the bootable Puppy Linux 2.17.1 CD.

I accidentally upgraded my gamepup install to 2.20Alpha when doing some testing.
It started jwm fine and let me play zaxxon
I didn't try anything else

CoBlitzed link for GamePup 2.16 - just use your regular download method
http://coblitz.codeen.org/puppyisos.org ... pup216.iso

Metalink for Gamepup 2.16 - use a metalink-enabled downloader, eg Aria2
http://www.metamirrors.nl/backend/get.p ... pup216.iso

I downloaded gamepup from MU's site and have a bad md5sum.

Is there an upgrade or a new md5.txt out there?

I need to verify before I upload to

http://www.puppylinux.ca/puppyfiles/custom/

Thanks

please try:

wget -c --referer=http://puppyisos.org http://puppyisos.org/isos/2007-07-to-12 ... pup216.iso

servage.net actually has massive problems with firefox, and I plan to move everything on a dedicatet server within december.

Until then please try wget, it should work reliable.
Important is to add the referer option.

Do you think alot of the games in Gamepup would run OK on an old IBM Thinkpad 560z laptop : (300Mhz 128MB Ram, frugal install) ?

or is it too slow / too little RAM for them to run OK ?

Are there common key controls to the games.

Is Tux racer available for Puppy ?

Here's a new one http://fydo.net/projects/pillows

Thanks.
