Here's the md5 from the the iso I burned

Code: Select all

28ab50a2165a57dae5306eb018cb6d7a /mnt/sda2/puppy_fancy-1.2.8.iso
same as vanchutr.

vanchutr, did yours work?

Edit to say that 2.12, 3.01, Fat Free, 4.00 and wNOP 0.2 all worked. No go for 2.15CE though.

Hi All,

Wolf Pup has the same problem I do....BAD internet connection.

I wonder if he mailed the iso to someone to upload on a solid connection....I know it sounds weird but you never know.

Hey Wolf Pup...is there a library or Starbucks close...lol

Best,
Eric

might this help . . .

as well as wget (which is used by Puppy 4 with the Pwget program for reliable downloads) there is a bash command wput

Does this work on Puppy 4?
use the command

Code: Select all

pup2pet wput.pup

to change to the Puppy 4 installable .pet format

Is it reliable too?

rsync?

#24 Post by prehistoric »

Since we already have most of this image correct, I wonder if we couldn't fix the errors in a short session with rsync. A few years back, I used it heavily while building Gentoo systems over a dial up connection and I remember seeing a version with a GUI on one of the many puplets I've tested in the last two weeks.

If it works in this case, it could become a sort of next to last resort for other people living on the fringes of the 'net.

Are there simple instructions anywhere for making a multi-boot iso?
Could anyone make a page on the wiki or something?
People keep asking how to do it, so it would be nice to be able to point them to some instructions...
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

So....
What is the verdict? Is Puppy Fancy available or not?
It would be a nice CD/DVD to have since it contains many versions of Puppy!
A dead download link does not help here.

8) Thanks for sticking with it wolf pup

There is a lot of interest in this. Some have been able to get a working version. Any feedback? Look forward to using it once (hopefully) available . . . :)

My way of creating a multi-boot puppy

#29 Post by reckrhodes »

My way of creating a simple working multi-boot puppy iso to both either puppy v. 4 and wNOPv2. I am using puppy4 as my Linux OS)

1. create reck folder
2. create boot, puppy400 and puppywnop2 under reck folder
3. create grub under boot folder
4. copy the personalized menu.lst (please see below) to grub folder
5. copy the stage2_eltorito file to grub folder
6. copy the four needed files (initrd.gz, pup_400.sfs, vmlinuz and zdrv_400.sfs) found inside the iso of both puppy v. 4 and puppy v. 301 to their respestive folder.
(note: when you click puppy-4.00-k2.6.21.7-seamonkey.iso for example you will see the following files. boot.cat, boot.msg, initrd.gz, isolinux.bin, isolinux.cfg, pup_400.sfs, vmlinuz, zdrv_400.sfs will appear in rox windows. You copy only the four bold mentioned files to puppy400 directory)
7. in rvxt terminal emulator, type the following commands( do not include sharp sign)
# ls ( to check if you can see the reck diretory) be sure that you are one level up from reck directory
# mkisofs -R -b boot/grub/stage2_eltorito -no-emul-boot \-boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -o multi_boot_iso.iso reck
8. burn you newly created multi_boot_iso to a CDRW disk. (for trial and error)
9. and finally, if everything is working, to a CDR.

Note: I am not expert on this. Just a small contribution to help those who wanted to have this Puppy Fancy just like Wolfpup's. Corrections are needed.

my personalised menu.lst:

title Puppy Dingo 4 Final
root (cd)
kernel (cd)/puppy400/vmlinuz
initrd (cd)/puppy400/initrd.gz

title Puppy 301 wNOP v 2
root (cd)
kernel (cd)/puppywnop2/vmlinuz
initrd (cd)/puppywnop2/initrd.gz

title Reboot
reboot
root (cd)

title Poweroff
halt
root (cd)

The puppy fancy has been uploaded a little differently now. There are 17 parts to the ISO and all 17 parts need to have the correct md5 to form the complete ISO. The first post has the info. :D

I can't remember when I d/l 'd this, but I know I did an iso not parts, & the only one NOT working is 2.15CE all others work as expected [proviso WNop stalls because of poor Intel810 video, but I got that with tombh's original, so to be expected
v3.01 &4 both run - what happened to bubbles & gem?

I'm happy with what I have, for now, as it took ages to d/l even on 2M broadband in UK - I think it was from caneri's site though
- so undersea pipe;

Keep up the good work & please post if you make it multiboot!!

Can you grub it, as a LiveCD? Or maybe grub on a floppy pointing to CD?

Aitch

not quite there

#32 Post by prehistoric »

Hi Wolf_Pup,

Just downloaded all 17 parts, plus scripts. Parts 2 and 10 gave bad md5sums, on two separate downloads. Almost there, but not quite.

Hi prehistoric.Wolf Pup,

I also have a mismatch in part2
my md5 is
f004d931a424bed8a36e853d5c846ca1 puppy_fancy-1.2.10.iso.part02

I'll check part 10 in a few minutes.

Eric

Please use wget or Lobster's pwget for downloads to eliminate the browser.

EDIT: I must be d/l part10 from the cache...very slow this time

Good news, almost there . . .
Be aware that based on experience Opera provides the best downloads, then Seamonkey and then Firefox. However none of them are 100% but pwget (which uses wget) is. Wget checks the file for errors as it downloads. I have no idea why browsers are not using this? I wrote the front GUI to wget for Puppy (with considerable input) because it was so essential and useful.

Once successfully downloaded is the idea to reassemble into one ISO and host? :)
