Thanks for the reply vtpup but I don't understand how that would help.

I'm also interested in your profile. TP600E with a Plll hack. How did you do that? I'm using a TP600E at the moment and I'd LOVE to speed it up. I've got 2 of them and they are wonderful reliable little boxes, just a bit slow even with Puppy.

Cheers
Geoff

Thanks for the reply.
Looks interesting but I think it is rather more than I'd like to try these days. The brain might have a problem :D .Some of the info might be a bit out of date now also.
Thanks again
Cheers

Hi!
I'm trying to a shared network between puppy and winxp laptop with no success.
Pnethood scans and It finds my laptop but If I click on C$ show button I have this message error in the attachment.
Any suggestions? Do I have to install or configure something in winxp?
I haven't inserted username and password because I don't use it in winxp.

C$ is an administrative share
I am sure that even windows would not allow you passwordless access to this.
you could probably share the entire partition without a password by right clicking on your c drive in windows and selecting "share as"

I'm not going to be around for a while, taking a break. If someone wants to fork/extend pnethood and start a new thread. I would love to see it in a few months when I come back, cheerio.

Are you leaving puppy for a few months or just pnethood? We kind of need you in 4.2 development and you'd be missed.

Unless you mean the printer is on the XP machine and you want to print from Puppy.
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

He means he's leaving Puppy for a few months. Will's got his priorities straight, I'm sure and I hope we see him back sooner rather than later. :(

I can relate to that puppy is very addictive, 'But its good fun', I tell my wife. I can't type what she responds back in a public forum  -ing

Another person with international problems
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 288#286288
What does everyone think would be the best way for pnethood to deal with these issues? A text entry field to enter any extra options, with codepages covered in the help? Or something more complicated?
Maybe we could use a couple of dropdown boxes...

Ask him what language he would like it in? Then just google up which language and change the fields and package it. No need to bloat it up specifically for like 300+ languages, lol

It wouldn't be that bloated, but if we're worried about it we could just have the ability to add these options, and a link to a good reference page - it sounds like you've seen one?
The thing is, at the moment if it doesn't work a user has no idea why, or how to fix it - Puppy should at least include a pnethood that is a little more informative.

Here I took Hairywill latest version and added utf8 support from another post and made a package, So this one is the most updated version now.

Thanks for reference to my problem. In other linux distros i prefer to use smb4k. I need only one dropdown box to select utf8 in smb4k prefs.

Did you try the packageI posed above , just install it, it should copy over your current package, it has utf8 enabled by default. Hope that helps.

I have just tried the utf8 package on virtualbox puppy installation. It works, no need to edit /usr/local/apps/pnethood/func_mount because it has utf8 as mount option. I'll try the new package on real puppy install later. I'll post here if the real puppy has problems.

pnethood mount options

#220 Post by adamwheeler »

Another problem with accessing files > 2gb after mount can be resolved with the 'lfs' (large file support) option in samba/mount-FULL.

mount-FULL -t cifs "//${IP}/${SHARE}" "${MOUNTPOINT}" -o "${SERVERNETBIOSNAME}username=${USERNAME},password=${PASSWORD},iocharset=utf8,lfs" 2>>${TMP}log

I believe there was another mount-FULL line I also had to edit.

Perhaps an 'options' box is in order.

Adam.
