Am I trying the correct file? I followed your link but did not see a v 5.0.0
I tried to install the pet but received this message:

Code: Select all

Error, package pmusic-4.9.2.pet failed to install.
I am using a derivative of Slacko 5.6
(Havent tried it in a vanilla Slacko 5.6 yet)

I have seen this message with a few different pets over the years but still don't know the best way to find out what the installer is objecting to. Maybe there is a log somewhere?

Apparently it's 4.92

Same for me; look at the top of this page, where Zigbert replied.

Should I expect any conflicts when installing pMusic5 on a system which has earlier pMusic built-in? Does the PET remove or replace the earlier version of pMusic?

Thanks in advance.

As I recall, the newer version replaces the old, and any settings and saved information are preserved,

Unfortunately this doesnt work for me. I just see an empty archive.

No joy there for me either.

I gave uextract a try and got the following:

Code: Select all

# HISTFILE=; /tmp/uextract_exec_21290_9451 && exit

UExtract v3.10 by SFR'2013-2015; GNU GPL v2 applies

bunzip2: /root/pmusic-4.9.2.tar.bz is not a bzip2 file.

aaaah - turns out it was necessary to rename it to a .tar.xz not tar.bz
Will test further now.

If your puppy has the remove built in programs option, then you could remove the old pmusic and install the new one.

Hi zigbert - up till now I have been using pmusic 4.5.0 (in my Slacko 5.6 derivative) and in order to play my audio tracks I would normally use the file explorer to find /mnt/sda3/Music and then rightclick the directory and "add to play queue" (or add recursively) but in v 4.9.2 this function seems to be broken.
cheers!

4.9.2 is the correct version number for beta 1. There will be 4.9.3 (at least) until we reach the final 5.0.0. To make the installation work, every release needs a unique version number.

As sheldonisaac wrote, it will overwrite existing /usr/local/pmusic/, while $HOME/.pmusic will stay untouched.

"Add to play queue" is not a part of pMusic. I think it is a part of don570's rox-right-click package. I will include it... Thank you.

edit:

Done - will be in 4.9.3.
I called the right-click options:
Add audio to pMusic
Add audio to pMusic recursively

Does this sound understandable?

edit2:
Files are added to playqueue, but is that the preferred behavior when pMusic is NOT already running. Should pMusic clear the queue and start playing the added tracks (from rox-right-click), or should files be added to existing queue.

If you click on an audio-file in Rox, it will be added to the playqueue if pMusic is running, If not, pMusic will start, clear queue and start playing the chosen file.

Sorry Zigbert, I was not clear enough - I was referring to the file explorer within pMusic (not ROX). I have attached a pic to show this function that I am referring to. In version 4.5.0 I can leftclick (once) on the "Music" directory and then rightclick (once) on it and it will give me the choices as shown. The choices are still there in 4.9.2 but it only adds the name of the directory to the print queue - it does not add any actual tracks.
Done - will be in 4.9.3.
I called the right-click options:
Add audio to pMusic
Add audio to pMusic recursively

Does this sound understandable?
Yes that sounds really good to me. Possibly some other users may not like extra additions to the Rox rightclick menu but I would certainly like that function.
Should pMusic clear the queue and start playing the added tracks (from rox-right-click), or should files be added to existing queue.
My preference would be for the tracks to be added to the existing queue with no automatic clearance. I would prefer to manually remove any tracks that I did not want. And of course the X button allows an easy way to clear the entire queue already.

Thanks!

add to play queue

Sorry Zigbert, I was not clear enough - I was referring to the file explorer within pMusic (not ROX).
I just uninstalled the existing pmusic, and installed version 4.64

Then:
Delete all files in /tmp/
Delete all files in /root/.pmusic/tmp/
Under menu item "Music Source", browse to a directory with music files.
(in this case, it was /mnt/sdb2/fromthe500/fromsdc3/music/incomplete)
Right-click, choose "Add recursively to play queue"

and the mp3 files in that directory are added to the play queue

Later today I'll uninstall 4.64 and again try 4.92.
I think that as greengeek said(?), it didn't work in the newest version?

Be aware that you can bookmark a directory to show up in the favorites overview (heart-button)

Hi @Zigbert. You have supported us with this fine work for quite some time. Muchly appreciated! :D

If pMusic is NOT opened to the desktop, I would think that selecting multiple selections would open ONLY with those were selected versus what was there in a previous pMusic session on the desktop.

I haven't tried it, but if I select a playlist AND some additional audio files, will the pMusic start to the desktop with all of the selections in the playlist as well as any addition audios?

Thanks for your efforts in helping us.

Hope by asking it helps as you progress.

LASTLY, this thread has gotten really long in tooth. Might you start a fresh new thread when you release pMusic5?

Thanks for your efforts in helping us.

Still says '4.9.2' but I know it is different because the tray app now does hide the gui :)

However I can't get to show again!

Correction - it does show again. The reason it didn't is I was too impatient.. took a long time to show because CPU was maxed out with 'find' and 'grep' routines running in the background.
