May just be me or my old hardware but all I get is the "won't run as root" message. Reverted back to 19.
What!? Did you use my pet? Look at the /usr/bin/google-chrome in the Lucid Chrome pet to see how to avoid the won't run as root message (you have to specify the datadir).

Will download again though.

Yes.
It is working OK for me, but they could have changed something that caused a problem with the older hardware????

Were you using Lucid? I would pretty definitely not work in Slacko--I have to make another pet for that.

Code: Select all

exec /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --user-data-dir=/root/.config/google-chrome --disk-cache-size=10000000 --media-cache-size=10000000 --disable-metrics "$@"
If /usr/bin/google-chrome has this line then it must be that something else is triggering the message. But I have no idea what. Let's see if this happens to anyone else.

Just checked....that line is there in the Chrome 20 pet.

Reinstalled 19 .... working fine. Everybody is leaving the older hardware behind I guess.

Where did you get Grandr?
...
I trust it is from some server for Puppy.
Maybe Smokey or ??? grandr-0.1-i486.pet

You are most right about drivers.
I have Acer D255 Atom CPU and the Intel Chips.
Most likely I should use Mesa 1.8 something but
I did the set up now and you where right.
It recommended a "High" driver so I installed it.

Thanks. Friendly jokes is okay with me :)
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Guess they consider an Athlon XP too old to support.

Looks like it. I guess their message (won't run as root) could have been a bit more accurate, eh?

Google-Chrome working here...

#2011 Post by Eyes-Only »

Just wanted to say Larry that your .pet of google-chrome v-20 is working perfectly fine here on 3HD regardless the window manager/desktop environment and on this very old Dell "celery" 2.4 processor that's approximately 8 to 10 years old. ( I think? Was the marvel of its day but held together with bailing wire and duct tape now. LOL! )

Nothing about "won't run under root". Had it had said that I'd have taken the browser out back and shot it with my shotgun of course. ;) Damned if I'll have a computer or piece of software tell ME what to do with MY computer! Day that arrives ol' jimmi boy will gladly chuck his computer out the window here... which has a nice drop-off to the river below! :D

Thanks for your continued work upon Puppy Larry for ol' whinners like me. Your hard work is very greatly appreciated and you never get told nearly enough!

Cheers/Amicalement,

Eyes-Only

Hello Eyes-Only, Yes, it seems that Pentium 3's (and later of course) are OK with Chrome 20, but from what James C has found the Athlon XP is not.

it says that /tmp/ don't have enough memory and that
they recommend that I delete files so they can download.
I solved it by restartof Xorg Sometimes things are easy?

Good that openGL works.
Reported frames looks about normal for those drivers, but really unable to judge without knowing what video GPU is being used.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Thunderbird 10.0.5 Extended Support Release

This is a more stable version of Thunderbird, for people who value stability over the latest version number.

http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/Thund ... -Lucid.pet

Firefox 3.6.28

This is the corresponding Firefox--not the same version, but on the same place on the download page, a still-updated version of 3.6 now at 3.6.28. (Firefox 13 was crashing on me, when I was using it for work! And so was Thunderbird 13. This was in windows though.)

Sylpheed 3.2

This is the latest Slypheed -> http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/sylph ... -Lucid.pet
