Yes, I was hoping to release 1.3 and 2.2 before Christmas. With the 5.4.3 kernel.

Note, I just did a post to blog about the 5.4.3 kernel.
Oh, I thought you were just putting a basic 1.2.10 out so we could test it to see if the updated kernel fixed the usb/ssd problem. They are up to 5.4.5 already with the kernel, the .4 to .5 is basically comms related fixes, but .3 to .4 were generally important so if your delaying, a further kernel update could be of worthiness in your consideration.

Thanks for the links. I see gksu is gone from Debian Buster also.
Yeah, and everywhere, although the older package sources are avaiable still if you want to .pet it, they will be around forever. Basically it was an outsourced function of another package that has returned to be internal again. (Not quite exact, but a close enough explanation.)

Yeah, I had hoped new 1.3 and 2.2, but maybe can do a "pre" release, and aim for 1.3 and 2.2 for the New Year.

The 5.4.x kernels are coming out fast. They are probably finding and fixing lots of issues, so I will try and get the latest.

Yeah, the way it seems to me, with the type and levels of fixes is that their considering 5.4.x as a LTS kernel candidate, they haven't one in the 5.x series yet and the 4.4.x was the first 4.x of 4 to be LTS.

There was a post requesting that SFSget be able to run offline. That was @ras :

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 95#1041095

Done, plus a bridge between EasyContainers and SFSget:

And maybe since your playing with EasyContainers, is there a possability of creating a container of "$users_name" and allow a chosen number of applications to be added into it.ie it has no apps to start with and only the apps chosen by the user as required are included. Good for specialist uses. Of course the shared directory would be used for saving data in.
EDIT: Or maybe it would be better to create a sfs and link that in, the shared directory would of course be used for saved data and configs.

thanks

You already have that with the "console" container. It starts a terminal, and you can run any app. You can even run multiple apps by appending "&", example "# leafpad &"

Start EasyOS on a Macbook

#2068 Post by alfons »

EasyOS or Linux general can cause problems when starting on a Macbook, depending on the Mac model. The problem is mostly the video card (incompatible with certain graphics cards).

I have tested different Macbooks:

MacBook
Model-id: MacBook6,1
Graphic-Card:
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Test result: successfull, no modification required

MacBook Pro (13", 2011)
Model-id: MacBookPro8,1
Graphic-Card:
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Test result: successfull, no modification required

MacBook Pro (15" Retina, Early 2013)
Model-id: MacBookPro10,1
Graphic-Cards:
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
Test result: successfull, modification required (see attachment)

MacBook Pro (15" Retina, Mid 2014)
Model-id: MacBookPro11,1
Graphic-Cards:
Intel Iris Pro
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M
Test result: successfull, modification required (see attachment)

Version 2.1.11 released, which is 2.2 Release Candidate. If anyone wants to give it a spin, go for it. I hope to release 1.3 and 2.2 for Christmas

Manually upgraded frugal install on micro SD card via USB Card reader from 2.1.9.1 to 2.1.11. So far all good, everything working as expected. Very nice. Thank you.

@BarryK, downloading 2.1.11 to try, however 2.1.9.1 did work ok, it was only the pyro that wouldn't and gave problems. I shall test anyway.

@TerryH, so your on 3 Mile Lake( or nearby), doubt it's like it was back in 1988 when I was there.

Did you try running 'xorgwizard'?

If you did, wouldn't it have offered the choice of 'nouveau' xorg driver?

And if you chose that, wouldn't it have created a xorg.conf like the one you posted? Or are there differences?

I have tested this with 2.1.11, running on usb-stick.

I noticed in easy-containers, the "Choose application to run in a container" has some duplicate entries -- fixed that.

Selected claws-mail, accepted default security settings, icon got created on desktop, it works.

I have not yet tried doing it in a frugal install, will do that.

Printing

#2074 Post by FeodorF »

Samsung ML-2160 Mono-Laser Printer Test

Had to download the Samsung ULD_v1.00.29.tar.gz from http://www.samsungsetup.com/TS/Client/en/Install.html and extract: rastertospl, libscmssc.so and Samsung_ML-2160_Series.ppd

Added:
rastertospl to /usr/lib/cups/filter
pstoraster (symlink of) gstoraster in /usr/lib/cups/filter
libscmssc.so to /usr/lib
Samsung_ML-2160_Series.ppd to /usr/share/ppd

Printing works for me.

EasyOS on MacBooks

#2075 Post by lp-dolittle »

@ Barry
@ Alfons

neither following the recent instructions of Alfons nor trying to cope with the Intel graphics limitations of MacBooks according to Barry's hint, I succeeded in running EasyOS (including Easy Buster 2.1.11) on an old MacBook whose hardware specifications you again can find in the attachment (see also post from November 19th).

Booting the MacBook while pressing the alt-key results in displaying only 1 efi drive-symbol (no additional 'Windows' option, as mentioned by Alfons). After klicking the efi-symbol, a list similar to the EasyOS splash screen appears, but none of the options really starts EasyOS. Instead, the following messages appear:

Starting vmlinuz
Using load options 'rw initrd=\initrd'
invalid loader file!
ERROR: Not Found while loading vmlinuz

The only options to continue finally are 'shutdown' or 'reboot'

any suggestions?

kind regards

Browse the web

#2076 Post by FeodorF »

If you like to have more than one browser available with EasyOS-2.1.11 you can add the browsers of Moonchild Productions.

One is Pale Moon, latest release: 28.8.0 http://linux.palemoon.org/datastore/rel ... _64.tar.xz
and the other is Basilisk v2019.10.31 http://eu.basilisk-browser.org/release/ ... 64.tar.bz2 and http://us.basilisk-browser.org/release/ ... 64.tar.bz2

Both of them can be installed at /usr/lib and run very well with EasyOS. Basilisk is still a beta release.

Further info can be found here http://www.basilisk-browser.org/features.shtml and here http://thereisonlyxul.org/

Barry,
yes xorg.conf was created with xorgwizard and the choice of 'nouveau'! I posted it, it's easier to test, some people have had little problems - Mac is a bit special. There is no difference!

EasyOS Pyro 1.2.9, Buster 2.1.9 December 9, 2019

#2079 Post by Billtoo »

I installed to a 32gb flash drive with easydd:

Computer
Processor 4x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6100T CPU @ 3.20GHz
Memory 3963MB (291MB used)
Machine Type Physical machine
Operating System Easy Buster64
User Name root (root)
Date/Time Sun Dec 22 17:39:38 2019

Display
Resolution 1920x1080 pixels
OpenGL Renderer Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2)
X11 Vendor The X.Org Foundation

Version
Kernel Linux 5.4.6 (x86_64)
Version #1 SMP Sat Dec 21 20:06:29 +08 2019
Distribution Easy Buster64

OpenGL
Vendor Intel Open Source Technology Center
Renderer Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2)
Version 3.0 Mesa 18.3.6
Direct Rendering Y_es

I tested youtube-dl (it works) in the main desktop
and added firefox in the containerized desktop, it would take a long while
to test everything but no problems so far, sure is fast on this pc.
