I still think pdvdrsab is broken. Why hasn't anyone noticed this? Any alternatives for ripping movies?

EDIT: Nevermind I think it's my USB DVD+RW Drive that is causing it.

having trouble with sound

I am having problems getting sound working on my laptop. I'm running precise 5.4.3 off of a usb stick. The laptop is newish and has an amd e450 processor. Anyway I think the problem is that the machine has two sound cards, and a card associated with hdmi output is the default. I have tried using the multiple sound card wizard to select the other card, which shows up as "alc269vb analog" as a default but after a reboot it defaults to back the hdmi and I have no idea how to enable the drivers for the second, non hdmi card. Is there any way to get the default sound card to stick?

I have encountered problems with 2 soundcards on several machines and the solution is to edit /ect/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf by adding a line or two something like this:-

Code: Select all

options snd-hda-intel index=0
options snd-cmipci index=1
You need to find out what the modules are and the one for the soundcard you want to be the default needs to be forced to be allocated as index=0

Have a look in /proc/asound/modules and substitute the modules in your machine in place of the ones I gave above (which are for one of mine).

Checking /proc/asound/modules indicates there are two modules both marked as "snd_hda_intel" at index 0 and 1.

This doesn't seem right. Is there anyway to force a manual auto-detection of the sound cards again from the command line?

open the package manager, click configure, then press update. once updated restart the package manager and the packages you want should be found

rg66 made un Unistall Pet pet.
What is handy with this is that you bypass (the slow) PPM and can even run multiple instances and thus simultaneous uninstalls. (would be nice if a gtkdialog expert can make possible to select multiple pets for uninstalling)

However, rg66's version is for an older PPM versions and will not work with the latest precise, slacko etc.
So here it is updated for the latest PPM (and internationalized)

Latter addition Although useless for most pups :o , here is also a companion InPet.pet prepared for a PPMless pupplet . Is a GUI for installing pets

Precise Puppy 5.4.3

by Jan99
First a HAPPY New Year to all Puppy developers and users!!

Very nice Precise Puppy 5.4.3

Use it now , and it is very good.

Only little bug i have found:

In PPM the packages libgudev-1.0-0_175 and gil1.2-gudev-1.0.175 are marked installed but they are not!
So if you install a package that use one of those (for instance vlc ) then you would get a "missing libgudev-1.0.so.0" .
After installing libgudev-1.0-0_175 all works great.

Pudd is confused by menus containing more than ten items

(This bug is not limited to Precise 5.4.3, but I'm adding a link in this thread because it is in Woof, and Precise 5.4.3 is the latest Puppy built from Woof. I suspect that the bug actually lives in all Puppies that contain Pudd.)

Pudd causes screeching from internal speaker during backup: Explanation and suggested fix

I had a X crash with precise 5.4.3. After installing your package I am using again precise 5.4.3: in three days no crash of X!
