Have anyone else discovered problems with DVD ripping lately? Tahr has issues because of lacking ffmpeg, but here it seems to be vobcopy, and that one is the same in Tahr as all other Puppies.

Re: How to covert pBurn 4.3.16 to a .deb-file

pBurn worked!!!
Hallelujah!
BUT....Is there a way to use pBurn in Linux mint or Debian?
Or can I somehow convert the .pet file to a .deb file?
I tried Alien to no avail.
What backend does Slacko pBurn use?
pBurn uses cdrtools-3 as its backend. This is the same as k3b and brasero, so it should not be much difference. BUT, burning is complicated because of burners not acting equal. So, choosing the correct attributes for the burning command is hard. This is the reason pBurn sometimes work and not the alternatives - and the other way around. To help out, pBurn is transparent, and shows the burning command in the 'Advanced' tab in the Burn option dialog. Tweaking attributes over years has given us what we have today. And we know that many will still have issues with our choice.

Running pBurn in another distro is straightforward as long as the dependencies is met. Execute 'pburn -D' in terminal to see all dependencies.

Please be fair, and give us the knowledge that you base your review on. This is counterproductive. We want to improve the product.

Slacko5.7-nonPAE

My slacko5.7 spins do not have vcdimager dependancy, and there is ffmpeg 0.8.4 installed.

I'm wondering if I need a newer ffmpeg (slackware 14.0 and puppy5 repos have nothing newer) or if there is a pet for vcdimager (again PPM shows nothing).

Regards

Are you actually wanting to burn a vcd though?

Not personally, perhaps some of the folks that D/L the spins might wish that.

vcdimager shows [missing]

Semme, Pburn comes in at around 70 kB and flBurn at around 1 MB, and it's downright rude to recommend flBurn instead of Pburn in the Pburn thread without at least saying something about why.

Vcdimager has not been included in any official Puppy. It is a rare operation to write video-CD's these days.

Bonjour,
I recently encountered problems using latest 4.3.16 release of pBurn. Some CD-RW are recognized as simple CD-R so it is not possible to erase and use them again!
I downloaded/installed old pBurn 3.7.5 release and it worked perfectly: I could blank my CDs.
Perhaps this problem has already been reported and perhaps is there the solution somewhere but I have to admit that i do not have the courage to read all the 152 pages of this Anglophone thread to find it if so...

Cordialement

I believe that zigbert made some recent changes so that rewriteable DVDs
could be erased

Bonjour,
Thank you don570!

I take it I am not alone to have identified this so it is indeed a pBurn recent version issue?
But are the changes you mentioned published/released somewhere?

Cordialement.

I have not made any improvements on blanking. Only minor changes in the 4.3.17 code found at github - woofCE.

I will do some checking...

...working as expected here.
Burning - blanking - burning again
TDK CD-RW

Can you point me to a disc not getting blanked by pBurn?

Just checking - do you run cdrkit or cdrtools?

Hello Zigbert,
Thanks for your reply! :D
Just checking - do you run cdrkit or cdrtools?
As far as I know, this doesn't happen with DVD-RW, only with CD-RW, it is why I didn't notice this issue earlier because I didn't use CD-RW for a long time.

Cordialement.

I downloaded "cdrtools" from here, built a pet then installed it and now, all is working fine (Puppy Precise 5.7.1). :D
Thanks.

Hey sorry about the delay.

Using Pburn to overwrite a dvd fails due to lack of ram, AND deletes the iso you were trying to burn.

To be clear, it doesn't do that when you burn a fresh DVD iso, only when it has to overwrite one.

Other than that, love the app.
