No longer see icon in taskbar to select turbo or perfomance mode.

Installed laptop tools ... doesn't seem to solve problem. Would appreciate it being included in next distro.

thanks

Hi pemasu

Just noticed that suspend no longer works when closing the laptop lid.

This is a 1st for one of your puppies, they all previously worked.

Otherwise a superb puppy - many thanks - regards Ray

I believe that missing ppower and failing suspend are both side-effects of defective gcc_lib installation. They work for me...and are included.

I would wait the rewoofed and reuploaded version.
Just got home....now comes maslow's hierarchy of needs: food, children, cooking and the Upup Raring....

Excellent!

He completes his ADL's (activities of daily living) yet still finds time - and exceptional mental energy - to make Puppy jump through hoops and sing an aria.

He's uber-human!

Upup Raring 3.9.9.2 has been reuploaded.

In DISTRO_SPECS gcc_lib has been fixed. The applications should behave now normally. Peasy DVD Player and PupControl has been updated to the latest. Otherwise the distro is the same as first upload. The main changes post you can find about 15 posts earlier.

I have test compiled goffice, gnumeric and with kernel sources NVIDIA 319 version without problem. No errors for me. Let see if the upgrade to the gcc-4.7.3 is now ok.

Manual frugal install to a 4gb flash drive.
I compiled the amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13-4-x86.x86_64.run on my
laptop which has ati hd5470 graphics, then moved my flash drive to my
hp desktop which has an unsupported card but the driver is working.

On the laptop:
I had a problem with frisbee when setting up the wireless, it gave an
invalid password error, I got the same error twice so I pretty sure it
wasn't caused by a typo.
The network wizard worked fine.
The hp is on the wired connection.

If I had tried to compile the ati driver on the hp I'm sure that I
would have gotten an unsupported card error but doing it this way
works although there is a small square in the lower right of the
screen with an unsupported hardware message that doesn't show up in a
screenshot.

That's it so far.

EDIT:Still playing,I bought a 32gb Micro SDHC card (itty bitty thing)
and plugged it into the SDHC adapter that came with it, that is
plugged into a usb card reader.
I did a manual frugal install and copied my backup savefile to it, ran
grub4dos and then booted it up on my hp desktop.
I resized the savefile increasing it by 2gb and it's working well.

EDIT:The above setup worked okay for booting and starting raring but had a problem saving so I used another usb card reader that has a MicroSD slot and booted and did a test save with that,it worked.

An oddity....

Attempting to load the devx with sfs-load before a savefile has been created crashes Upup Raring. This has been OK in the past.

The md5sum has been confirmed correct.

Code: Select all

# md5sum devx_raring_3.9.9.2.sfs
7e0a70f21f840ac2ccde9295b2fa9e2c devx_raring_3.9.9.2.sfs
Loads OK after a savefile has been created.

Billtoo and Peebee. I dont have those kind problems. But I suspect that libX11 replacement from original precise pangolin could be behind some weird behavior.

Barry K has established sort of communication with libx11 commit creator, whom added the non-US keyboard layout braking commit. There is more in Barry`s blog.

Barry`s layout.patch is no more valid in libX11 source in ubuntu raring. The source code has changed regarding keymap.

Ööö. I tried to remove the offending commit. The compiled ubuntu raring libX11 worked for me.

If someone would like to give it a try, I would be grateful. I would like to replace the precise pangolin libX11 with working ubuntu raring version...if my removal of the commit has been succesful. Non-US keyboard when restarted X, load_sfs, Frisbee password, etc....

Download link to the libX11 pet and DEV pet:
http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/Temp/

Restart X after installing the pet.

I did a new manual frugal install to a 4gb flash drive and tried setting up the wireless network with frisbee, it worked no problem this time.
I don't know why I had the problem before but I got the invalid password error twice, it's working fine this install though.

Haa. Now there is more official patch to fix non-US keyboard layout bug.

http://bkhome.org/blog2/?viewDetailed=00347
Scroll to the bottom.

I patched the latest libX11 version with the patch succesfully and I compiled it. non-US keyboard bug didnt pop up for me.

I have updated the link to this latest patched libX11 version.

Download link to the libX11 pet and DEV pet:
http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/Temp/

If non-US keyboard bug does not happen with other people, I will update to use this one.

Pemasu,
Just did a very quick test, booted 3.9.9.2 pfix=ram, obviously no bug, installed the .pet and still no bug.

Downloaded the raring / raring updates .deb from packages.ubuntu.com and installed it over the top, bug appeared.

Installed your .pet over the top again and the bug was gone again.
Remembering to restart X each time. Looks OK unless there is some other specific test you want me to try.

OscarTalks. Thanks. That sounded proof enough. Otherwise. Just usual normal testing. If there is something missing or misbehaving, now it would be good time to point it. I will create quick update quite soon so that I can include libX11 compiled in Upup Raring with almost official patch.

Hi pemasu,

Your new Upup Raring 3.9.9.2 is running great with my usual software including the Nvidia driver. :D

Of course your Bibletime 2.9.1 still isn't working as I reported before. because of an Ubuntu injected bug.

Thanks for another super distribution.
Jim

Pemasu, can I ask a favor?

I've been trying to get Jejy69's MATE working on Upup Raring and Precise (versions are unimportant here -- I've no data at all on the computer this affects, so I can wipe/install as needed here). It's been a failure so far, with an error that I only now think I understand.

It appears that the gma500 driver for Puppy is compiled without support for the Intel GMBUS. There is a patch (fifth in a series of IIRC nine) that will fix this, but I can't code well enough to even read that mess.

Would you be able to recompile that driver with the necessary patch(es) to enable GMBUS support? I'll gladly provide testing for it. Assume I'm using Precise 3992, which I'm about to download.

Patch for GMBUS support is here --> http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/d ... 17225.html
