I'm still here I think we should stick with email we have now, For some reason it won't compile with ssl, I even recompiled openssl and still nothing, strange, but I tried the latest Sylpheed compiled with ssl no problem, if you want to toss the html and go with Sylpheed, I'm fine with that and could have it packaged in a matter of minutes.
As for that shutdown the system and exit to prompt or restart with the current window manager, I looked at that code and welllllllll, Its way over my head, If we only had HarryWill still with us, He probably could do that in a blink.
oh well, anything else you want WhoDo? I just started compiling vlc9.8
only another 20 or so left to compile
I could take a break if you have some more pressing issues at hand?

Sylpheed is in the repository, so I'm also inclined to stick with Claws for this release. How much do we lose by going to the full Seamonkey suite with mail/news?

Yeah, I took a quick look before posting my response and it looked like something for one of the core devs rather than a hacker like me, too!

So to answer your question around 2.5MB compressed, around 2MB compressed more than Claws.
So I just don't think thats an option, Also did you get the abiword and extras? its pretty good with the templates, they only take an extra 25kb but to offer things like resume, fax cover letters, business letters etc, I think its well worth the 25kb? Roughly I think everything combined is around 100kb +/- which is really good with openxml format, Thats goig to make a heck of a lot of users happy. If we could figure out the mime for it, that also would be good.

Tried rc2 on an Eeepc
Universal Installer - followed instructions - very easy

Boot up on Eeepc and set up no problem.
Connecting to the Internet?
Not with w-ifi
Only TigerPup (that I know of) has the modified wi-fi driver for the Eeepc.
So had to use ethernet . . .

That pretty much leaves us with Claws mail then. I'd still appreciate it if you would compile the full suite so I can put that on ibiblio.org for download by all of those users who want to stick with Seamonkey mail, if you don't mind doing that.

Got it, packaged it in a pre-release and tested. This time I have access to the clipart manager as well, so that's a positive. I still can't get spell checking in either spell as you go or manual versions, but since I'm the only one who apparently has that problem I'll let it go for now. I haven't tried the templates, although I did notice their presence. I'll try them later today. I'm also going to update Flash to the latest iteration of the 9.x series to ensure we remain relatively secure from known vulnerabilities.

I'm glad you trialled the PUI, Lob. That has been upgraded to Dougal's latest and I haven't heard any complaints or issues so it looks like it's a good inclusion.

The Eeepc drivers were the drivers I included from tempestuous' Extra's thread that ended up breaking wireless for everyone else, so they've been left out of the next release. At least ordinary wireless users will have the connections back for RC3. Eeepc users will have to manually install from tempestuous' thread, unfortunately.

WiFi worked out of the box for me on a EeePC901 using a frugal Rc2 install on a USB stick as I reported earlier in this thread. Which Eee did you try?

You would have heard from me before now, I think, if not for the need to make sure all the package listings go into the right files in a remastered CD and correctly say the packages are "on" or "off," which isn't as simple a task as one might hope. After I get done trying to make sure they do, shall I volunteer to help unify and otherwise improve (though not radically transform) the Puppy package management system? (Zigbert was just suggesting that PETget needs some improvement, like being able to install multiple packages upon a single request. I could, um, suggest a few other desirable improvements too.)

BarryK has developed a whole new package management system (see his blog for details), but I don't know how easily that will port back to the standard Puppy. It will certainly be an integral part of all Puppy's built using the Woof build system.

An alternative might be to offer your assistance to Technosaurus for the Puppy Control Panel project. It's all there but needs some rethinking in the area of what appears on the main screen, how and why ... not to mention a better way of providing contextualised help for users. Technosaurus is at an impasse with that part of his project so your assistance would surely be welcomed.

Don't forget about the control panel app I set you like 1.5 months back remember ?? Its more user friendly, and appealing to the eye, plus it was nice and small also? aren't we still going with that one? since I guess the secret is out of the bag now.

Hi WhoDo here's the control panel applications, The thing I like about it is that you can add more applications to it using the gui, but its a hidden feature, that way new users can't mess it up
plus you can use any size ions, 24x24 48x48 etc
I guess we could start with 24x24 due to the limited space but 48x48 would be sweeeeeet, below is 2 icons for the desktop, the orange one I recoloured.
You can also edit applications in root/. i forget the name, It would take me about 1 day to add all the applications and tabs.

One thing we overlooked with cups, if you change the default browser to Firefox/Opera/FirePup etc, cups doesn't work right, I've modified the script so it continues to work with gtkmoz and seamonkey.
Just install the pet and it will be fixed, and for the main release just extract the /usr/sbin/cups_shell and replace it with the cups version your using.

Update on me working (i.e., on Remaster Express): Package list files appear to be coming out OK; all major and obvious bugs have been squashed; I've burned test CDs and DVDs, and they work. I'm just double-checking some things, putting on a few finishing touches, and debugging one last feature: "Restore System," to let the user re-install built-in packages (i.e., delete whiteout files) on the existing system if desired, after uninstalling them to create a new live-CD. Won't get done before I have to go to work this morning, but should be done by this evening (Saturday morning in Australia) or, at the latest, tomorrow morning (Saturday evening in Australia).
