@Billtoo: Have you ever been able to go into Language Selection, change the language or subtitles and make the changes stick?

I always have to use the keyboard controls, (which always works).

BTW, did you really want the rest of the world to know that you own Happy Gilmour?

I've just been going with english and no subtitles, I just tried the functions keys and as you say they work.

Happy Gilmour..got it at the local buy and sell in a bunch at 6 for 10.00, how about the part where he gets into a fight with Bob Barker :)

Anything from 2000 to 4000 series. You can get your card ID with lspci -nn|grep -iE "vga". If you get the second hex number (you'll have [1002:XXXX] in amongst some other info, so I mean the XXXX) you can see if it's in one of the lists at /usr/local/video_upgrade/ati-legacy or -new. If not in those it likely wont work unless it is a new card which means it hasn't made the list yet.
Well I downloaded and installed the two pets from your site and aticonfig --initial returned "no supported adapters detected." It was worth a try! The second hex number from the lspci command you suggested was 71c7.

Well the Lite-On SHM-165P6S in the Pentium D has worked perfectly for several years. I dunno if it will last as long as the ancient Sony CRX100E in the K6 but it's going strong so far.

I would test the speed setting thing but I'm a little short of CDRWs at the moment, I have no 1x-4x left and I may need to rationalise the number of LiveCDs I have - which should free up a couple of 4x-12x ones. Still haven't got any rewritable DVDs yet.

cd-info tells me that I can't write DVD-/+RW - which actually works for me.

Heh, it told me I couldn't write discs at all - turned out that it scans whathever's set to /dev/cdrom/ and that was actually sr1, the DVD-ROM drive. Flipping /dev/cdrom/ to sr0, the writer, sorted that one out although it seems to think the drive can't have its speed manually set when it can.

Test write using Pburn of a Puppy ISO to a 4x-12x CDRW explicitly set to 4x proceeded at around 10x. Will test more at different speeds.

Hello 01micko,

Tested the nvidia 173.14.37 kernel 3.10.5 PAE driver and it does work with my GeForce FX5200 card.

Are you sure the instructions in the post-install script are correct though? (Installing PUPMODE=5 pfix=ram it was talking about ati).

Thanks for catching that! Because of the removal of nouveau_unload I had to change the pinstall.sh and used the ATI one as a template. Forgot to check pupmode=5  . Will be fixed.

Just tested latest google earth on my legacy radeon driver, looks good to me. Probably would work ok with nouveau, radeon and intel, depending how fast your graphics chip is. The old version (6.2.2) worked fine with all three of those on my newer machines.

I'll also be updating, jre, libreoffice and skype sfs files

What do people think about putting the kernel headers in the main sfs? They will add about 800k to the iso but it will mean 1 devx will be common to both flavours. That will save confusion.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Not too much of a size penalty..... I'd go ahead and include them.

bigpup.. I only just uploaded the drivers, they aren't in the package list yet!

James, Yeah, saves making 2 devx as that's the only difference.

01micko wrote:OLD <-- 4 nvidia drivers are uploading for testing. Follow the message on installation carefully.

Now all 6 are up there, found, applied, built and tested patches.

see <-- http://slackotest.01micko.com/nvidia-drivers/

They are:
  • for k3.4.52
  • nvidia_old-173.14.37-3.4.52-4g.pet
  • nvidia_legacy-304.88-3.4.52-4g.pet
  • nvidia_latest-325.45-3.4.52-4g.pet
    and for k3.10.5
  • nvidia_latest-325.45-3.10.5-PAE.pet
  • nvidia_legacy-304.88-3.10.5-PAE.pet
  • nvidia_old-173.14.37-3.10.5-PAE.pet
Checksums are in the file CHECKSUMS.TXT

I haven't tried to build the older ones yet against the new kernel. I'll try later. DONE!
The newest nvidia driver that I can find came out Aug 5th, where'd you get 325.45?

typo, corrected and uploading to main repo.
I'll bring out RC in a few days with fully functioning video upgrade and sfs manager, plus ziggy's updates and firefox-esr-17.08 is just released. I'll black ban dbus in the update manager too.

You will still need a script to tell which one to link to /usr/include/linux based on uname -r.
You can have the script /root/Startup) or /etc/init.d/ or e function rc.sysinit in the main SFS (with one more condition on devx being loaded) and have the 1.5MB in the devx instead of the main SFS.
... And then convince BK to include it in woof (now that he plays with multiple kernels  )

Thanks Mick

Just to report that I converted the above pets to sfs - removing the pinstall and puninstalls as I did so - and that they both worked fine for me by loading the sfs's - running xorgwizard - selecting nvidia and letting xorg choose the screen dimensions - rebooting and completing the installation.

Cheers

But the files are IN /usr/include/linux, built that way with make headers install. The only way yours would work is if I put the headers in a holding area then linked them, a bit ugly (oh, I forgot, we are FULL of ugly  ). Other than that, leaving them out all together is an option, or even put them in the kernel_source sfs.. but then sometimes only the headers are needed and not the source, there really isn't an "easy" way.
