2 things real quick:

2. i thought you were going to replace ghasher with the new gtkhash from pg 187. if that was your intention it is not done either.

seems really nice though. i love using this version. :D
I was only going to do that if we were using gnutls but it broke too many apps removing openssl, Ghasher is way Quicker of a hasher application, so it stays :).

I tried it, FF just ask if you want to save the file etc. So you save it and click on it and it opens in Gxine. works for me :)but is that what you wanted? Didn't it always ask if you wanted to save wmv?

the link before you replace the mailcap and mimetype files will just ask if you want to save the file. after you replace mailcap and mime.type it should give you the option to 'open with default media player' instead of having to save the file first. it works on mine... maybe firefox has to be restarted?

Control Panel and margins in gnumeric

#2867 Post by Minnesota »

Two problems running RC3 from CD on a R52 Think Pad.
1) Is control panel option on the main menu supposed to work? Or for future. I tried all the icons and nothing executed.

2) see attached.... Old problem... Left Margin for Gnumeric not set.

Hi Minnesota,

You must click icon´s names instead of pictures to launch the related application.

Thanks, ttuuxxx,

downloaded RC3, took me a few tries, though, this time (with wget -c, as always :? ), will take it for a spin in the next days.

Otherwise, have been using reiserfs for pup_save-file-format for RC2-(manual)frugals recently, with success, and have mainly been playing with incorporating ways to detect the selected timezone into initrd.gz_/sbin/init, in order to avoid the e2fsck output "mount time in the future" (for stock ext2/3 that is) - success for pupmode=12, frugals, as of yet. Am pursuing other ideas further, though ...

Cheers :)/

I've downloaded RC3 and must say that I like it.... As a matter of fact, I like it a lot! This is probably the most thoroughly assembled and tested Puppy version to date.

Couple of questions, though....

I don't seem to be able to save a freshly downloaded Go-OpenOffice Suite to sda2, which is a NTFS section of my hard drive. The inability to write to a NTFS is a 2-series thing and not a bug, right?

Last question concerns which SFS format this one requires (with so many updates under the hood). This takes the same SFS3 stuff that the 3-series Puppies do, correct?

All in all, I find this to be an extremely well thought-out implementation of Puppy!

Hi roy I never tried it on a NTFS partition, anybody else have a NTFS to test it? If not I can compile what ever is needed. as for sfs extentions, 2.14x has a little converter I tossed together so it can use series 3,4,5 sfs files just open /root/SfS-converter folder and drag and drop your series 3,4,5 sfs on top of 3-4-Series or 5-Series box and then click Convert-SfS and you'll find your new 2series sfs located in root, just rename it to anything like OpenOffice etc.

Glad you like it Roy, this version of puppy is what get when you have a team of people working around the clock for about 1yr :)

Hi Roy,

Puppy 214X is a NIMM Puppy :) http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=51162

I have some NFTS partitions and I can write to them. To write a NFTS partition you must use Pmount or Mut, if you click the drive icon in desktop the NTFS partition will be mounted in Read mode only. That´s happens because Rox configuration uses mount command (mount seems not capable to mount a NFTS partition in write mode), Pmount and Mut instead uses ntfs-3g command this one mount NTFS systems in read/write mode.

You can see your kernel messages when you mount a partition using the command "dmesg", it can be useful to debug some problems with some Filesystems.

Greetings,
clarf

ok could you please loadup with puppy pfix=ram and try it.
I haven't touched printing in like 5 months+, lol so if it worked before it should work now.
then maybe tar.gz your /var/cups/log/error_log file :)

Clarf,

NIMM?? I can't argue with the description, but I have to laugh at the acronym a bit.... I'm just tickled that inventive minds are so... inventive. But where would we all be without this talent?

Back to the topic of NTFS writes, your explanation makes perfect sense. And although I do not doubt you for one instant, I am going to beg some more time on a full-sized laptop to go through the steps myself. I learn better with a hands-on approach, and this seems to be a mere lack of education on my part.

Ttuuxxx, I need to walk myself through the SFS conversion tool as well. Thank you for the guidance.

Again, I thank everyone who has devoted so much time, energy, and talent into this project!

-Roy

EDIT: Just verifying that Clarf is absolutely correct; used Mut2 to mount sda2 and can now write to that NTFS partition. Re-downloading Go-OpenOffice again (original got lost) and will convert the SFS upon completion. Humblest apologies and heart-felt thanks....

Connection Wizard RC3

#2876 Post by Hugh »

I've just downloaded RC3 and burnt a CD to take it for
a test 'run.' In fact I'm using it now.

Congratulations to the entire 214X team: the Connection
Wizard problem with RC2 is non-existent!! RC3 found my
pci ethernet adapter immediately and the setup proceeded
very smoothly.

I'm only like 3 minutes into the test 'run' (pfix=ram) but
will happily report that so far ALL IS WELL!

Thanks guys - I (and my old hardware) really like this
version of Puppy!

Still struggling with the 'flu' and associated respiratory
infections but had to give this a try. Looks very good!!

Great Hugh glad its now working :) For your flu there's a few remodies that worked for me.
The old fashion Lemon, honey, tea and real chicken noodle soup with onions and garlic, steamy long hot showers, lots of extra blankets to sweat it out. Plus I've found drinking some hard alcohol like 1/2+ a bottle of scotch (only if your of drinking age, and never chug it), The scotch seams to lower your immune system and then the next day it kicks into overdrive to repair the levels. Oh ya and drink about 2L of tomato vegetable cocktail juice in about 30mins or so, lots of vitamins. Plus french onion soup is good without the cheese, stay away from dairy products. Plus some vitamin C tablets.

You can't beat some good Kentucky bourbon to help get over the flu........

Same disclaimer as Ttuuxxx, if you are over the legal drinking age.....

Just finished using the sfs converter located in /root

First try returned "Cannot stat source directory "/root/squashfs-root" because No such file or directory" so I created the directory and tried again. It indeed produced a new sfs file!

Running from a Live CD with no save file (not my machine).

Tried to install http://www.puppylinux.ca/bugs/skype-2.0.0.72.pet. Installation looked good, and a restart of the Xserver put it in my Internet Menu column.

It wouldn't work. Terminal shows:
"sh-3.00# skype
./skype: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.1' not found (required by ./skype)
./skype: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.4' not found (required by ./skype)"

If I remember correctly, John Biles specified an earlier version of Skype (without video) for TEENpup2009. Versions that I am aware of beyond 2.0.0.47 (which allows video) do not allow user-selection of sound devices.

Tracking down libstdc++.so.6 might be a challenge, but is not impossible. With my (low) technical knowledge level, the GLIBCXX designation worries me as possibly being a particular compilation.

It looks as if I will have to give up my video (lower Skype version) or external audio device (higher Skype version).

Hi roy you need to drag and drop the sfs you want to convert ontop of the 3,4 series or 5 series boxes /root/SfS-converter/3-4-Series . when you do it will automatically create /root/squashfs-root I just tried it with series 5 :) and then you click /root/SfS-converter/Convert-SfS which will open the gui and click "Click the button to make a new sfs" and then a window will open and display it being converted and it will disappear when finished.
ttuuxxx

oh ya if you want Skype always use the latest static version, luckily I already made a pet for that :)
