OK, here you are. Simple Pup was based upon Puppy version 1.0.7 and uses kernel 2.4.29. In addition to the libraries you already added these are the others I added:

libXau.so.6.0.0
libcrypto.so.0.9.8
libssl.so.0.9.8
libXdmcp.so.6

Hope this helps others as much as it has me. Thanks.

Aragon,

Seems Streamtuner is acting up again. But I strongly suspect Shoutcast may be to blame. I am unable to perform a "search" for any music categories. Just comes back with "2 categories, 0 streams". When I use the console to call and monitor streamtuner activity, this is the result of performing a "search":

sh-3.00# streamtuner

(streamtuner:9247): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'stock_select-all'. The 'hicolor' theme
was not found either, perhaps you need to install it.
You can get a copy from:
http://icon-theme.freedesktop.org/releases

(streamtuner:9247): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading theme icon for stock: Icon 'st ock_select-all' not present in theme

(streamtuner:9247): Gtk-WARNING **: Error loading theme icon for stock: Icon 'st ock_select-all' not present in theme

Anybody else out there having this same problem?

Hi Yogi,

yes the search does not work for me too.

But i made a quicktest on their homepage classic.shoutcast.com: this does not work too, even if search a channel that is listed on their homepage.

Search on www.shoutcast.com does work, but this is the new one, we can't use.

so i would say: no chance for a search atm.

cheers

Hi

I had the same experience the other day,
so i did a little bit of googling and found this: streamtuner_0.99.99-15ubuntu1_lpia.deb
After opening it up, i placed a copy of the shoutcast plugin (shoutcast.so), into the streamtuner plugins directory.
It now shows all the different genre's and the search is also working. (see attached pic)

I have attached the plugin below.
If you want to try it out, place a copy of it in the streamtuner plugins directory,
mine is located at:
  • /usr/local/lib/streamtuner/plugins/shoutcast.so
You may want to remove the original one somewhere safe first,
for a backup just in case this one does not work for you.

When you start Streamtuner, you will need to click on Reload.

Just thought that someone may find this useful.

Hey CatDude,

Way to go! My Puppy is wagging his tail again. It really was as simple as replacing the shoutcast.so plugin. This really makes finding genres and stations super easy and fast. I just hope Shoutcast doesn't go changing again.

Thanks,
Yogi

That's strange, all i had to do was replace the shoutcast.so plugin,
anyway i hope you didn't lose too much in the way of bookmarks etc.

It doesn't work for me. No actual URL. Right click on any station -> properties -> URL list is blank.

Hello Xara

Welcome to the kennels.
Xara wrote:It doesn't work for me. No actual URL. Right click on any station -> properties -> URL list is blank.
Have you tried double clicking on it, to actually play it ?

If you look at the attached images, you will see that in the first one,
the URL list: is indeed blank.
I had only right clicked on it and selected Properties.

In the second image, i had first double clicked to play it,
then did the right click > Properties

Do the stations play when double clicked ?

Hi CatDude

Yes it works but not if the player is not running. I had mplayer which opens a new window every time and it didn't work. I put audacious and it's ok now. Thank you!

i've uploaded a patched version (with ubuntu-, debian- and puppy-patches) to the first post. this is also to document the changes and to be able to simply apply further changes.

New Shoutcast plugin (shoutcast.so) needed.

It seems that Shoutcast has made a change to their format somehow so that I am unable to perform a "search" for any music categories. Just comes back with "2 categories, 0 streams". This has happened before and the "fix" involved copying a "new" shoutcast.so plugin to Streamtuner's folder. I believe CatDude was responsible. I've tried finding the new required plugin but don't know where it would be. Shoutcast's site doesn't offer any help here.

Anybody else out there notice the new change?

Not really sure what's up Yogi with Streamtuner. :'( Seeing your post had me opening mine
to check - and you're right of course! - nothing at all coming in from Shoutcast.

But then I gave Xiph a refresh, and I waited... and waited... and, well, I'm sure you get the
picture here? Either Xiph is being over-run due to Shoutcast being off-line and therefore not
giving out refreshes, or they're off completely.

Who on earth knows what with the way RIAA has wanted lately to shutdown online radio? :(

I do know that my bookmarks are working - all two of them - made recently when in a hurry
installing from a computer crash over a month back, and from Shoutcast. -sigh!-

Hopefully something will come up soon!

I'm so tired of a few ruining a good thing for the honest many who just like to LISTEN while
typing...

Amicalement/Cheers,

Thanks for the tip Dawnsboy. I already have this version of Streamtuner but I extracted the shoutcast.so plugin anyway just to see. No luck. I'm pretty sure the recent change enacted by Shoutcast will have to be addressed by a new plugin. I could be wrong but like I said I've seen this problem before.

Odd thing I am using it on my mini pc as we speak. It was installed several days ago and has been working fine.

However I just installed a copy of the same package on my netbook (same puppy version) and I cannot pull in anything from shoutcast.

It looks like you are right.

Some more googling came up with this procedure as a temporary fix:

http://tazbuntu.blogspot.com/2008/10/sh ... tuner.html

Using TaZMAn's advice, I added the following line to /etc/hosts:

205.188.234.120 www.shoutcast.com

It doesn't solve the music categories issue but at least I can perform a "search" for rock, comedy, jazz, news, etc stations and select what I want that way.

Until someone with more expertise can create a new shoutcast.so plugin, this will have to do.

Streamtuner shoutcast still works on 2.14X, so maybe try this shoutcast plugin, just extract it and drop/replace in /usr/lib/streamtuner/plugins/
