/usr/share/themes and /usr/share/icons and /root/.icons for cursor themes.
I use xfce 4.2 so I manually put files in appropriate places

Thanks, but sadly my old 17" monitor went up in smoke (or as good as) yesterday morning so I'm now viewing Puppy on a 15" SVGA monitor. I therefore need a WM that's economical on screen estate, like Fluxbox.

ahh bad timing...it's yer line output mate.

I suggest misco for good deals on a flat screen in the uk...they are sooo nice and yer desk suddenly gets much bigger

Thanks, but as money's a bit tight for me at the moment it will probably have to wait for a bit. I'll try and manage with what I've got now; maybe choose a more readable font or something.

This one's not a bad monitor and made by the same company as the 17", but the reduction in screen size does make a difference.

It would probably save me money in the long run though, that old monitor used to chuck out a fair amount of heat (and more than this one does).

Could try altering the X font resolution...gives nice bold text on smaller screens..
and xfce control panel has font size options too..ended up look good on a notebook mini screen

ps flat screens in cash converters and such are getting cheap too

There was a set global font size utility but basically in /root/.Xresources its
Xft.dpi: 84 sort of thing

Hey guys,
sorry for bumping up the old issue again, but there's a cairo patch available for XFCE 4.6.1. Can somebody please tell me how to patch it into xfce (or maybe give it a shot himself)? I wanted to throw it into gcc (just downloaded the whole src package), but I can't say that I'm very familiar with it.

Evaluation after a bit of use and nosing around:
it seems all around VERY nice the menu is really close to the way it should be to... "make sense" i guess i could say, will need a tad work.

Main question is, other then always running pmount is there an easy way to mount or even find out about new devices with XFCE.

for instance jwm and icewm and such you could still see all the available drives on the desktop and when there was a new one it is shown. then of cause you click them they mount and open, however it dose not seem like there is a way to do that in xfce.

apart from that, this is top work. absolutely beautiful.

well this is from an older version but should mor or less apply.
Rox pinboard on which the mount icons work is probably still under the xfce4 desktop...try killing xfdesktop in htop.....
If that works and you are running xfce4 sessions then it will stay that way.
If not then a little fiddling is needed

Thanks magerlab it works. well it did after rebooting xfce4 twice then it came up. works very nice thanks.

oh and killing the xfdesktop only refreshes everything it advises that as a way to refresh the menus on one of there web pages about custom menus.

i think in this (latest) xfce4 it's impossible to turn xfdesktop off

Also i'd like to add to the topic that even though it dose not say it in the main page, i have had some problem in a "lowfat" or cut down version of puppy with using startxfce4 as it will only seem to open for a moment then crash and return back to the "promt".

i have noted that it seems to be caused by a lack of DRI so as to fix i am to apply the most obvious course of action and down Xorg DRI from the Pet package management petget thing. Full should then also work maybe better but larger.

so in summary anyone using a cut-down puppy AND having problems with this XFCE 4.6 then go to petget and grab Xorg DRI.

did you installed d-bus pets ?

try to run xfce4-panel in terminal( under JWM) ( or xfwm4, even it will say that Xorg is already started, it might show nedeed dependancies
