Was able to boot this, make the configuration choices, get to the desktop.
I'd previously copied the SFS file to an ext3 partition filling a 1GB Flash Drive.
It looked good.
Rebooted, and as it shut-down, made a 512MB pupsave file beside the SFS file.
At reboot the pupsave wasn't seen.
After a couple of tries to produce a fix, I gave up and deleted everything.

I already have Dpup-010 working, but wanted to see if Inpu is better or not.

This could be related to the latest Woof ... can you reproduce this behavior with Luci 240 or Quirky 1.4?

Terrible! The army should provide you with a nice little cabin on the beach, with a shady tree, a coffee machine, and a laptop. Someone should explain to them that Iguleder coding for Puppy and Debian would contribute more to national security than you having to carry guns.
( You could even add a sign to the cabin's door "Cave canem", Latin for "Watch out, insidious dog inside  )

Iceape seems to be missing a library.
Check your errs.log in /tmp to see if it shows as missing after opening Iceape,if so install from link below.

What version of Xorg is used in Insidious Puppy?

@Iguleder

1. "This could be related to the latest Woof ... can you reproduce this behavior with Luci 240 or Quirky 1.4?"
No sign of this problem in any of my other 6 Puppies as follows:
(a) Dpup-010
(b) Teenpup mini 2010 beta
(c) Luci-240
(d) Lupu-511
(e) Boxpup-431
(f) Lighthouse-500-F (build 500)

Wow, Inpu is faaast!
Congratulations Iguleder;

Changing from LuPu to InPu feels like going "back to basics".

At first boot the tray loudspeaker icon showed 'muted' (little red cross below it), but the woof-woof played normally. No audio problems here.

First time I clicked an mp3 tp play, alsaplayer opened, but only the upper part of its window was visible., not the playlist and the function buttons. I closed it and tried again: problem gone, Alsaplayer now shows completely and plays music okay.

Watching mp4 video: no problem, even full screen okay, maybe just a little bit of lagging, but acceptable.

Watching Flash video (youtube) full screen works, but there is too much lagging to be enjoyable.

Am I right in thinking this Xorg-High stuff doesn't help my Atom ION, nvidia board?

My first encounter with IceApe. Fortunately it accepts all things Seamonkey: I installed:
* Seamonkey language pack
* Adblock+
* Sea Tab X from Cat Thief (essentiial imho)
and finally learned how to move the home button from the personal bar to the main bar...

Even after refreshing the sources twice, my ppm remains empty. Just a handfull of apps show up in the InPu repo.
All Puppy package lists in /root/.packages are well populated, the Debian ones are empty. I understand others are having problems with ppm as well, but are these like what I desribe here?

When clicking the tray clock the calendar appears. But clicking the clock again doesn't hide the calendar. The minixcal bar to the left has to be clicked in order to close the calendar.

Numlock, ahem, I know it's not your fault Igu, but it should one day -say tomorrow  - be solved.

I hope we'll be able to access NLS files soon.
I installed the language pack created by Shinobar and it works well in InPu too!

I also installed the Iron 7 pet, the one Playdayz made with the cache size limit and one of the few browsers that install with the locale correctly set. It just flies in InPu!

Had a problem with SFS, see the screenprint.

Thanks for your great work!

1.7.7

EDIT :Whooops, Terryphi, that was a very stupid reply to your question!
I found this "1.7.7" in Hardinfo >>display : Xorg Foundation, version 1.7.7..

But that's something else I now realize.
Apologies, I didn't think, was only trying to help.

Good work, Iguleder. No problems with sound or setting resolution at 1024x768. Used Opera deb to install Opera 11.00 and ran without problems.

I have strange behaviour with Mailwasher for Linux: all text and dialogs have a space between each character! I have never seen this before on any Puppies.

I like Iceape but really miss Notecase and Osmo so I will have to add them - no problem. :)

Hi,

i have a gigabyte usb keyboard but it didn't
work when i boot in the desktop ?

internet connection lost after reboot

On reboot I didn't have my internet connection back I did setup and had to do it again.
Then I saw that when I had setup the connection in the first boot, the wireless device was eth0 (very unusual here)
Now after the reboot it was eth1 and configured again.
Will see at the next reboot what will happen.

Insidious Puppy 001

I have 001 installed to a flashdrive with bootflash.
I started out on my newer hp computer and installed the devx and
kernel source sfs from page one but when I exited to the prompt and
ran the commercial ati driver
ati-driver-installer-10-10-x86.x86_64.run there were errors and the
flgrx driver wouldn't work so:

I booted up the flash drive on my 3 year old acer with nvidia graphics
and I downloaded and installed your nvidia-260.19.21-k2.6.32.26.pet
and:
# glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
33393 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6678.534 FPS
27770 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5553.938 FPS
31423 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6284.523 FPS
29832 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5966.399 FPS
27271 frames in 5.0 seconds = 5454.153 FPS
#
anyhow, it's running very well on the acer, fast!

Edit: I'll attach the error.log from trying to install the ati driver.

Edit: retrovol is broken, if I try to run it from the console it gives a segmentation fault.

Super! It's fast, stable, and works great.

These applications have been added and most work properly:

Problems with added programs:
1. One of my favorite addons, Wbar, will not start. 01micko's fine Wbar-setup appears to function perfectly except for starting Wbar. NOTE: Removing Quickpet, one of the default applications called by Wbar which isn't present in insidious, allows Wbar to work properly.
2. Pwidgets only partially works, however that's also a problem with luci-240.

Cheers,
Jim

Frugal Install Issue

Posted: Mon 29 Nov 2010, 20:46

I tried frugal install using pfix=ram. Universal installer says sdb1 where I place installs is mounted or mounted read only and will not proceed. Checked icon and said to unmount all partitions. Used Gparted to check and unmount swap file so as far as I can tell all everything is umounted but no go. Pmount shows nothing on SDB mounted.

I have deleted inpu save file as well to be on safe side. I am typing this from inpu now but somewhat confused as to issue - probably something simple.

Assist required

Which PET or SFS of OpenOffice is recommended for use with Insidious, please?

I started to load the openoffice-3.2.1.9502_en.US.pet but the pop-up warned about installing to /mnt/home

BTW: That error message includes a misspelled word.

hmmmm... wbar is not one size fits all, I bet a program is missing/changed. I may have to make a simpler version with apps we know will be in puppy.

As for pwidgets I can't reproduce your problems Jim.. I will still investigate.

I also had Billtoo's kernel source problem trying to compile nvidia-173.XX.XX.. maybe just a symlink.

Try LibreOffice, OpenOffice.org's spinoff. It works fine on incidious.

Why didn't I think of that? Quickpet is the culprit. Wbar starts fine with that removed.

Apparently, I have a hardware conflict. I've tried Pwidgets as the only added program so there isn't a program conflict. Others have reported no problem with pwidgets.

Thanks,
Jim
