On your blog you were asking about Chromium. This one works in Precise 5.6.1 though you may wish to make your own alterations to the switches in the exec line at the end of the chrome-wrapper script in the main folder.

Pidgin bug:
There is something wrong with irc plugin.
pidgin --debug:
plugins: probing /usr/lib/purple-2/libirc.so
plugins: /usr/lib/purple-2/libirc.so is not loadable: undefined symbol: sasl_client_step
It disables testing of freenode and puppylinux channel.
#puppylinux channel is ok. There is all the time people asking help about how to get this and that working. I think that discussion of how bad things are in #puppylinux channel, tells more about those complaining people. The same complainers have created havoc in murga-forum sometimes. My explicit experience is that #puppylinux forum is the right forum to ask help in chat and there is nothing wrong with it.
I copied over irc plugin libirc.so from my wheezy 2.10.6 compile and got pidgin working. I did login to the #puppylinux with attached pidgin-autoinstall script. I fixed the script Barry K posted in his blog.

Hi !
I am using Precise 5.6.1 made a test with 5.6.4 Precise .
Works fine so far .Dont want to complain ....but why when testing glxgears
precise 5.6.1 give double framerate over 5.6.4 ( the Rarings Pups also half the framerate compared to Precise 5.6.1) ?
Is there something one could do about ? (is it really nessessary ? )

Here is the irc plugin for Barry`s pidgin testing purpose. It has been picked up from my Dpup Wheezy pidgin 2.10.6 compile so it is not the quite right one. It works though.
Jabber plugin from that compile does not work in Barry`s compile. There is ssl-gnutls version mismatch.

I was just tinkering with the new SeaMonkey 2.19 and found that in Precise 5.6.4 it doesn't start and in Precise 5.6.1 the old SeaMonkey still starts.
The symlink "seamonkey" in /usr/bin seems to be pointing to /usr/lib/seamonkey2.17.1/seamonkey ... Is this the correct path?
The .desktop file points to "mozilla" which is in turn a symlink to the symlink "seamonkey".

One minor bug - the NVIDIA NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] isn't auto-detected properly.
You will have to run: Puppy pfix=ram,nox - and use xorgwizard with the nv-driver option and reboot.

First let me say that I am very excited by the idea of a lean, mean, fast new Puppy! I haven't paid too much attention to the Precise line up until now because it appeared to me to be, like Ubuntu, bloated and overly complicated.
For the last year or more I've been running pfix=ram with changes to the system stored in a seperate SFS loaded at boot. This has been made possible by the newer Xorgs booting directly to the desktop. Imagine my surprise when Precise561 booted to the Xorgwizard
, but I wasn't too disappointed as I wasn't going to use it anyway. But now here is Precise564, an exciting new concept, and it too boots to Xorgwizard.
Well, I have tracked the changes down and found it to be in the init file in initrd.gz. So I changed it out with the init from Precise55 and now its back to booting directly to desktop.
So my question is, is it necessary to boot to Xorgwizard
If so, fine, and I will post an alternate initrd.gz for those who want to go directly to desktop.
Barry, Thanks for moving in this direction (small and simple) and for all your hard work.
BTW, I'm very impressed with the QtWeb browser. I think it should be the default with a Quickpet to install the user's browser of choice.(are you saving that as a surprise?)

PRECISE 5.6.4 :
- numlock is OFF by default.
- one browser is enough.
- qtweb has source code available, could be made default (it seems stable).
- "pet_packages-precise" contains many big files, like openshot, amd fglrx drivers, chromium, gimp, abiword, nvidia glx drivers, seamonkey, exaile, firefox, opera, audacity, gtkmm...
- in /etc/group there is twice group number 2. And contains unused groups.
- /root/network/Network/AppRun leaves delayedrun process ?
- Is /usr/local/share/ needed ?
- # /usr/bin/fpm2

- .Xdefaults* is not needed anymore in linux ?

I compiled a small QT web browser named Qupzilla in Precise 564 alpha.
I installed two qt pets that I made in Lupu last year and they worked
okay: qt-everywhere-opensource-src-4.8.4-i686.pet and
qt-everywhere-opensource-src_DEV-4.8.4-i686.pet then followed the
build instructions in the qupzilla source code directory.
Anyhow, it seems to be working great in precise 564, videos at cnn.com
and youtube.com play well.
I don't really know how to package this so I'll leave that to someone
else who can do it if interested.

They both work well, I don't know how it would compare in size if Barry
or pemasu compiled and packaged it.
It's still being developed, latest release was in May 2013, anyway
I just thought it looked interesting.
EDIT: I installed another application in ppm and it broke my Qupzilla, think I'll stick with firefox.

Finally - got round to trying this on my 10+yr old Acer laptop.
Absolutely brilliant - all seems to work OTB - and fast.
Not far from the perfect puppy - for me it is. Thanks for this.
Will play some more and then post a Hinfo report.
edit: Truly superb - no obvious issues - runs like a dream.
