Greets Quirky land!..I seem to have noticed a phenomenon first with Q6.1.2..sda6 6GB disk partition "free space" would start to gradually shrink and then went to free fall {started with 2.1GB free and dropped to 22MB !)
So I did clean full install of Q6.1.3 on Tuesday:
-sda6 partition 6GB
-added packages from package manager:
{VLC2.1.2..QT4.8.2..Conky1.6.1..Opera12.16
-After installing/reboot/running, "Partview" reported 6.0GB space/4.3GB free (cool)
-This morning was "3.9GB" free
-at home..reboot..."2.8GB" free?
Yes I use Opera and Seamonkey but have set to clear "history/cookies/cache" on exit..Have also tried manual delete that stuff.
Question is there are files growing when running {error and system or other logs}? Or am I missing something?

is better but one file is still moved to the wrong place.
Adding -prefix="" to configure does not work.

In Quirky 6.1.3, I have used the package manager using the option to "Download Only" X-Mag-1.0.5 and its dependencies in the t2-quirky6 pets. These files all downloaded in non-pet format as tar.bz2. Is this by design? I notice when I extract in root they end up in var/adm/packages. At first, I thought that I broke my package manager somehow but upon reinstalling 6.1.3 onto a USB, it happened again.

Kindly forgive the post if this is my error.

Greetings again folks..Is there any way I can add to "Shutdown" Manager? or find an application for battery power management of Acer Aspire One laptop.
I would like to add either "Hibernate" or "Suspend" action when I close display / lid.
Q6.1.3 is working fine for my work colleague and myself. I would put to the top of my Grub Menu {default boot} if I could manage the power settings.I have about 15 versions of puppy {from Alpha to Wary} as well as Ubuntu 13.04 and Linux Mint 16 to boot from. But I find Quirky could do my every day chores {browser/you-tube/VLC/e-mail/fotowall} fun stuff or heavy lifting stuff.

Puppy 4.3 linux got my feet wet so I am still a Noobie. But ever since Quirky 6.1.x, I am up to my ears with "Windows-wanna-be-Expatriots" work colleagues from every level {WIN3.1/95/98/ME/2000/NT/XP/VISTA/7 and 8} that want to jump ship.
These folks love the Quirky desktop environment..Menu items?..they are a little uncomfortable with some of "funny" names {linux world stuff}..most common complaint is "OMGosh! where did my "C" "D" "E" "F" or "G" GO!? followed by "You Wrecked My Computer!"..that turns into a discussion about hard drives partitions and USB stuff and how to "navigate" to their stuff {"Oh look! it is still here, they just got funny name / labels"}..they need to learn concepts like "Mount / Unmount"...that class lasts two minutes..after five minutes I might as well be talking to my shoe...I don't think they got it or most probably I did not explain it very well.
Can the Linux world {in general} come up with "Ex-Windows-User" to "Welcome-New-Linux User" hand holding tutorial/Wizard/Doc/Man page or mouse "hover over" and "tool tips" or "whats this?" to explain this stuff? {A built-in help guide/ wizard because older machines might not be connected to the Internet}
Any Ideas Lads or Lassies?

Windows is Windows.
Linux is Linux.
They are different because Microsoft thinks they own the look, operation, setup, and functions of Windows and no one else can use them.
Thus, Linux does the same stuff, but in a different way.

Quirky 6 is not the best for a new user. It is a test bed for new ideas and not a finished operating system.

For a new user of Puppy, I suggest Lucid Puppy 5.2.8.6
It has a very good help, with a Puppy help 101 that explains what programs do.

Finally got Skype working on Quirky 6.1.3.

Following Barry's suggestion, I downloaded and installed the following to provide the missing libraries: https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... uirky6.pet

I then installed Skype-4.0.0.8, which you can find here: https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... .0.0.8.sfs

I wanted to make the skype package uninstallable, just in case it didn't work, so I decided to convert it into a pet.

I used RHS's converter from here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=80909

The converter successfully unpacked the sfs file to a directory, but failed to repack it into a pet. This is essentially the same result as unpacking with the built in utility unsquashfs. In any case, you should carry out this operation on a linux partition.

Since the structure of the file system is very simple, I did not attempt to create a pet, but simply copied the files to the proper destination. For example, the subdirectory opt in the unpacked sfs directory, contains the subdirectory skype. I just copied this to /opt in Quirky 6.1.3. I suspect this is all that is necessary. Just drag the executable skype to the desktop with rox and provide it with the icon from the icons subdirectory.

And you are off and running.

Started downloading, as soon as I had seen your post. But...ibiblio froze at 11% download. As often, nluug came to the rescue,here .

Hey, I'm running Firefox 26.0 on Quirky Tahr. No problems!
I copied FF from my Precise 5.7.1 install, put it in /home, together with .mozilla, for which I put a link in /root. All my data, bookmarks, add-ons available...

I just started exploring. Keyboard be-latin1 working fine now.
MtPaint seems to have nothing between maximized and minimized window formats.
EDIT: Moderator: can we put a ban on all posts from Bert posted after midnight, when his reading glasses are downstairs as usual?!

Running from a usb 2.0 key, it is quite fast, but not really "puppy-snappy". Compared to Ubuntu, it is super-snappy

The scripts were looking for a name "quirky*.usfs.xz".
I have fixed them, now accept anything "*.usfs.xz"

The scripts have been re-uploaded to ibiblio.org.

sylpheed-3.4.0beta5 already installed
updated to: sylpheed-3.4.0beta7

But it installed in a different place, I will check first next time:
sylpheed-3.4.0beta5 is /usr/bin/sylpheed
sylpheed-3.4.0beta7 is /usr/local/bin/sylpheed

No problem on a 4GB USB I still have 2.1 GB free!

Quirky6 T2 and Quirky6 Tahr are great fun.

I checked for broken links, after installing devx so do not know if they were there before.

Installed to a 32gb flash drive.
Updated ppm and installed firefox,lxterminal,lxtask,icewm,icewm
themes,emelfm2,xfe,mc,wine,xine,fotowall,aisleriot,mahjonng,pupsnap,grun,links,
and video-info-glx-1.5.3-noarch.pet.

I don't have the devx or kernel source installed, I did that in an
earlier install and it didn't go well.
I tried to compile the proprietary nvidia driver and it failed, it's
not really needed with the nouveau driver giving hardware acceleration.

PPM is working well, I did need to update it to add the Quirky 6 repo.

I will do another install to a pc with ati graphics and see how that
goes.
