Another suggestion/request.
Lost & found contains a long list of the alpha 6 installed programs, just sorted alphabetically.
It would be nice if the original alpha 6 menu structure is maintained.
Don't know if it's doable.

setkdemenu and setkdemenu kde do work in dino after I realized I had to restart X
But it doesn't effect the long list of the old puppy menu structure.
I would be nice to have that old puppy menu|sub menu structure in lost&found

hm, in my system here I have only very few apps in lost&found.

Maybe that is due to my work on mime-types.
I ran "update-mime-database /usr/share/mime" after I imported Puppys programs to the mime-system.

Maybe this affected KDE.
I will run some tests with a fresh save-file in the next days, when I finished the "set as default" feature for my mime-editor.
I think we can not go around "real" mime-handling in Puppy.

The simplified one of rox is good as such, but incompatible with the rest of the world.
For this reason I work on that mime-editor with converter - tool.
When I finished, it hopefully should be no problem to clean up the KDE-menu by running a simple script.

@Beem: If I understand correctly here, these missing library files that you are finding then are for KDE358.sfs on Dingo, yes? And not for on 3.0.1 branch of Puppy, no?

I ask this Beem because I run this on my Puppy 3.0.1 and I'm not having problems with missing libfiles. Granted, I haven't tried Kmail and that's because I use TBird/SeaMail most often as it intergrates with all of my distros (one mail repository for 6 distros).

Everything else I've run, image viewers, multimedia programmes---and the like---have all run fine for me. Of course, I was also using Kirk's KDE.sfs before this and so I had done a lot of KDE software installs via GSlapt which brought in many libfiles, the qt engines, etc., which perhaps installed into the Puppy saved file itself most likely so that I may not be the best of beta-testers. Perhaps I should have started this on a clean 3.0.1 install but I'm very lazy.

@Mark: I tried the Dingo install like Beem, even using the .pet file of missing libs, and I had terrible luck. While I got a kicker and taskbar I didn't get a desktop, nor could I set wallpaper, get an application menu on left-click (which I prefer having on all my KDE setups), etc. I could've gotten a desktop IF I wished to hook in the PuppyPin but if I'm going to run KDE I wish the "full experience", you know? So I wiped out Dingo and started over with just a vanilla Dingo and then placed Fluxbox onto it. (I really don't care for JWM in Puppy.) I'll save the KDE experience for my 3.0.1 where it runs superbly well.

Yes the missing libraries are in the case of an install of KDE 3.5.8 on dingo.
I am not aware of reports of missing libraries in 3.01, alltho I vaguely remember one person had reported someting. I think in this thread.

So I promised to MU to test as much as I can on missing libraries and upload the latest file containing the missing libraries before I leave abroad.
Probably done on Sunday.

I think MU will make a pet for easy install for everyone.

I think I tested a great deal of the programs with most interest and found some more missing libs.
As promised I upload the archive containing them all, including the previous ones I uploaded.
I copied all these libs to /usr/lib and the programs run now..

Also Koffice 1.6.3 is included.

This is so crazy... I can't find it. Not on menu, not in /usr/share/apps or other places I looked. I did try... It's installed on 3.01. By the way, you don't happen to have a build script like the old one you had for 3.5.5 do you; actually Koffice is the only thing I really want. Thanks.

Sorry to bother you Mark--I was looking at the other one, 3.5.7 kde (kirk's). I had them both because I was trying to figure out what it would take to have a stand alone Koffice. I managed to get kword to work with the 50 MB 3.5.7 and the 100MB koffice from slackware plus some libraries from your 3.5.8. I'm thinking that if a stand alone koffice could be made in say 130 MB then that would be less than one-third of openoffice. But I am afraid I have about hit my limit--I don't know enough about the structure of kde and I have been going on trial and error. Maybe someone who reads this will think it might be an interesting project.

<ADD>I used koffice-1.6.3 and kdelibs-3.5.9 along with one library from gamin and one library from kdebase all from slackware and got kword running in 3.01 Mainly the libs needed symlinks such as libkofficecore.so.3.0.0 to libkofficecore.so.3. The koffice was 100M and kdelibs was 60M but surely it wouldn't need all of the kdelibs (I didn't keep track unfortunately). So that is a stand alone koffice in something under 160M, hopefully well under. No doubt some of the koffice could be removed also, which is why I am still hoping for someone who knows what they are doing to get interested </ADD>

Hi,
I tried to repeat the configuration of Legendofthor - I made a totally fresh full HD install of Fat-free 3.01 on a formatted, empty hda1 partition. Then I put a md5sum checked KDE358_083.sfs file in /, renamed to be seen by the boot up manager. Then I exit to prompt and write xwin kdestart which of course doesn't work since I have to reboot, which I do immediately. The effect of this is only that I get some kernel panic similar behavior (caps lock and screen lock lamps blink and nothing starts. After a forced restart with the HW-button the computer starts - on JWM again. I think I maybe should go to the prompt at boot and then write the xwin command, but I can't see how to do that with the boot alternatives in GRUB... or am totally out riding the bicycle, as we say in Sweden...?

If that fails, try within JWM to run from a consolewindow "kicker".
This should show some info, what is wrong.

Hi MrArne & Mark (Sorry I haven't answered your recent letter Mark ),

If I'm not mistaken here MrArne the problem would seem to lie in the fact that you've written in the above that you've:

...and therein lies the problem, see? The .sfs files are meant to be used through the bootmanager when running from the LiveCD and using a "pup_save.2fs" file, or from the hard drive in what's called a "Frugal Install" along with a "pup_save.2fs" file.

Mark will tell you though that all is not lost in your situation, however! And this is great to know, yes? From the hard drive install that you and I have---we can easily click upon the .sfs file using the ROX-filer file manager. This will "mount" the .sfs file.

Then you can go to "/mnt" and you'll see a folder there of the KDE3.5.8.sfs and you can click that folder and go into it with ROX-filer. Opening a second ROX-filer and placing them side-by-side you may then copy all the files over to your hard drive install one-by-one making SURE to place them into their proper directory.

Mark knows an even easier way which involves a few lines of code entered into the terminal, right Mark?

Hmm... Mark? What would be really nice? Since you know scripting/GUIs so well? -hint! hint!- A nice little GUI that would /mount the .sfs file if placed in "/" and copy over everything, then /umount---maybe even going so far as to /fixmenus afterwards if we all say, "Pretty please with pigsears on them?" LOL! (Inside joke to any reading.)

It then should be mounted to for example /mnt/mnt+kde358/

Then you could copy all files by typing this in a consolewindow (using the correct path of course):

on several different flash memory sticks
