Hebrew and Arabic Localization

Posted: Sat 21 Aug 2010, 18:28
by don570
I have written a tutorial to aid people who want to contribute to the
localization of Puppy Projects by translating English phrases into
Hebrew or Arabic. There is a lack of a good bidirectional text editor,
but I think I have found the solution. It is called Yudit.
I believe it has enough features to do the job. I don't speak Hebrew
or Arabic so I don't know. I do know that it must allow several
languages and two directions of text flow, and Yudit supports this.
I invite feedback.

Bonjour à tous,

@ zigbert,
May I suggest to include these files .Desktop joined here in dotdesktop.tar.gz, including the translation of the menu (in french only, sorry) in versions of Pbackup, Pburn, pCD, Pfind and Pmusic.
Translators of different languages will only have to add the line about their language.
Thank you,

Cordialement ;)

loading NLS

It is not usual case but sometime serious.
  1. Instlall NLS and run pmusic with localized language.
  2. Quit pmusic, uninstall NLS
  3. Re-run pmusic, but it would not start, got no error message.
PATCH:
# diff pmusic.org pmusic
46c46
< [ "$LANGUAGE" != "en_US:english" ] && . $APPDIR/locals/$LANGUAGE 2> /dev/null
---
> [ "$LANGUAGE" != "en_US:english" ] && [ "$LANGUAGE" ] && [ -s $APPDIR/locals/$LANGUAGE ] && . $APPDIR/locals/$LANGUAGE

puppyhelp localization

This is a different topic.... but shouldn't the 'puppyhelp'
application be localized. Shinobar appears to be doing this
with his Wary quickset but he's doing it the long and difficult
way.

I quickly made puppyhelp localized by using Zigbert's method of
string substitution.

It will automatically open a HTML file on your hard disk.

For example if you are using French, clicking on the
Help Desktop Icon will open a help file that is in French.
Try it.

I've included locals for German, French and Spanish.

It would be nice to have it included in Lucid Puppy.
It also works in Wary and Fluppy.

Download and install these two pets:

puppyhelp-1.0.pet
puppyhelp_NLS-1.0.pet

Is it worth further development??

You should probably start a new thread. I don't know how many that follows this thread.
A new thread might get more attention.

It's beyond my abilities to start a longterm project like this. It requires someone
who is fluent in several languages and the time to devote to Puppy.
