Install Firefox 3.6 in Puppy 4.3.1

#41 Post by ememes »

I just wanted to thank you for the instructions which worked flawlessly.

I was trying to figure out how to get SeaMonkey update from 1.0.18 to 2.0.2 (which I did) but was unable to install it.

My first preference was FireFox anyway..but the ver available was back 2.xx
and I really wanted the newest.

Now I have it and won't be using Seamonkey at all (will not remove it though)..

Thanks so much for the post

I am very happy

Mike

If you end up with a Firefox address bar you can't read (firefox 3.6X in Puppy 4.31), I found an excellent solution since the foxdie theme will not work with Firefox 3.6x. Install add-on "Make Address Bar Font Bigger". You will get a larger, bold font that's very readable.

Bart... the icon you are activating is probably looking for the default browser instead of a specific browser. The default browser is set by a little program located at /usr/local/bin/defaultbrowser. You could edit this to point to Firefox if you want, or simply go to /usr/lib/firefox and drag the file called firefox to your desktop to create a clickable icon.
