Same problem here
I tried to understand the tools made available by Shinobar, wanting to contribute more translations for Dutch, but I failed.
From my point of view (
amateur translator), developer skills are needed to use the LupQ translation tools.
Which is a pity, because most people volunteering to help with the translations have linguistic talents, but have a hard time understanding devx, gettext, po, mo, pot and how these might be inter-related .;
It is already hard to find enough people willing to do translations. But with the added complexity, most of the potential translators will say "No thanks, not for me".

Humm..
You can copy the .pot file to yourlang.po and edit it using text editor, but i recommend to use the
poedit or some tools.
I put the
poedit-1.4.2-3-i686.pet here. You need not devx.
Maybe we need proper documents, but it is easy once you run the poedit.

Thanks for your reply and support.
Now I am starting to glimpse the complexity of the translation process of Puppy. I was hoping to set up a translation system similar to the way ubuntu is translated. However there are only a few strings that can be translated using gettext, thus using Transifex or other tool won't necessarily help that much. Scripts must be translated individually withing its code, with manual version control and little automation. It that correct???
I have one suggestion:
Why not create a general "template" for translation that contain only the files that needs translation in its directory structure? Help from someone who has already been gone trough this trouble is greatly appreciated. Something like lang_template_pack_XX-lupq-xxx.tar.gz. This might motivate more people to start translating Puppy to other languages.
Each release of LupQ could be accompanied by such a file. How about that?
Thanks,
Rafael

Yes, you found the translation of Puppy is so complex that i need to describe long story on the top post of this topic.
We need to do translate the existing NLS and to make the scripts getting NLS. It may need long term effort.
As for the recent gettext'ed scripts, the .pot files are at /usr/share/doc/nls in LupQ.
Keep it up!

Simple localization scripts

Kon'nichiwa Shinobar!
3 small scripts, they are modified with your script. So they are to simple localization scripts:
glipper_shell, gparted_shell, mtpaintsnapshot.sh
Things are not great, but perhaps also can be used of other translators.

Hi:) is there a chance that you have made a language pet that would work with Lucid puppy 5.2.5-2.6.30.5(NOTE: 4.3.1 kernel), and give Danish keyboard and menu?
I'm having this big probleme since my friend who are going to use the pc with the Lucid puppy 5.2.5-2.6.30.5(NOTE: 4.3.1 kernel) installed(full install), don't know much english.
With kind regards and hope to hear from you

I was trying to translate without Puppy linux and now downloaded and installed using Virtual box. But when I try to open momanager, it shows an error message similar to:
"devx needs to be loaded"
I checked on repositories, but could not find it. What can I do?

You should do translations using momanager in Precise Puppy
since it is up-to-date.

Yes, Puppy Precise 5.7 is the latest Puppy build, and has the latest updates. You can get the ISO and devx files from here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/precise-5.7.1/
You can load the devx_precise.sfs by Menu > Setup > SFS Load on the fly.
