logout, reboot, power off

Maybe the work is still not finished (or else I have a problem)
When I logout, I come to the X command prompt and have to type reboot/poweroff/xwin startkde.

Altho I remember from kdpup that there was another intermediate menu for selecting reboot/poweroff/........

/root/.kde exists also, but maybe not used at boot.

Beem: in the Trinity SFS I made when you plug in a removable drive it shows a nice dialog and all removable drives are visible in the system thing with the option to mount/unmount.

It works perfectly under the last Squeeze testing build, since it has HAL from Debian

Hmm, well, haven't messed with pup_event scripts but there are some interesting modifications, in some puplets drive icons can apear on xfce deskie, and on grey's boxpup431 he even has them on wbar !
So yeah everything is possible in gnu/linux world just needs lots of knowledge and investigating to get in every corner of your OS, but that's also why puppy is so interesting, I think there are many setups on different puppy versions and puplets never seen on other distros.

hmmm, ok. Thanks for the info.
For the moment I test Trinity with lucid 235.
I'll test in squeeze009 then.

Just for your info.
In your KDUP, dbus and hal are working.
When I issue lshal, I get the nice listing of devices.
But even after editing fstab, in system:/media no devices appear.

But I'll continue testing with Trinity and as per advice of Iguleder in squeeze 009.

P.S. Kdpup doesn't have a /root/.kde3, only /root/.kde.

Trying with squeeze 009
Prepared everything with a pristine save file.
Installed the Trinity package and rebooted.
I got the familiar ble background and a message that there was an error with kstartupconfig.

I changed to jwm and executed kstartupconig, but got an error:

Code: Select all

# kstartupconfig
kdostartupconfig: error while loading shared libraries: libaudio.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
#
So seems I miss a library.

I guess it's because later testing builds are loaded with heaps of additional libraries, thanks to mplayer and gnome-mplayer :)

009 misses some libraries but it won't be a problem once a final Squeeze is released.

Now I'm making a new set of SFSs, trying a different approach, less modular, one "base" SFS and another SFS with all important applications (Kpdf, Kopete, Amarok, Konversation and so on).

I don't find libaudio in the debian packages.
Can libaudio2 be used when I symlink libaudio to it?

OK, downloaded libaudio2 and it contained libaudio as well.
I am at the desktop now.

media manager
So I tried to plug and unplug USB devices.
Nothing happens, nor at the desktop, nor in media:/
lshal is giving output, so I assume hal is running.
I looked in service manager and saw the media manager is running.

So still no luck.

Dejan, that one I tried too. Same (null) effect.
I think I need to give Beem's advice a go!

Beem, make sure you have libdbus-qt-1-1c2 and a running dbus.

Yes I have that lib
I see a dbus-daemon in the tasks
A hald and a udevd

I hope this is as it should be.

The situation is worse now, as only one partition out of the 4 of my USB HDD is seen in Pmount.
Even if I rescan the others aren't seen.

Should they all be in fstab?

Ouf,
In the preferences of pmount I ticked to use mut.
Now I see all the partitions again. Strange.

Bluetooth in Trinity

I saw a Gnome bluetooth Wizard in Trinity.
Did anyone succeed in using it?
dbus is already in Trinity.
But I suppose Bluez and other apps might be necessary to install.

Do you think it possible to link all stuff in /root/Startup to /root/.kde3/Autostart? A pinstall.sh should do it. Or els you could put in a script actually in Autostart running /usr/sbin/delayedrun. That would cover it and get retrovol running too.

Cheers

Good idea.
For now I symlinked freemem, network_tray and retrovol to there.
