What about using pfilesearch for that:

Code: Select all

pfilesearch -b -c "searchstring" -d /path/searchdir
cat $HOME/.pfilesearch/hits >> /path/search_result

If you're still changing pfind

here's my biggest headache.

Geany opens up the alias that pfind creates
rather than the real file. This is normally no problem
but the heading at the top of geany doesn't show the path to the
file. Instead it shows the path to the temp file.

Yeah, fixing this would also fix jamesbonds reported issue about Geany only shows 1 out of several similar hits (ie. index.html).

I just don't know how to fix it

Your link to pfilesearch is to version 1.30
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=191378

If I use it then pfind 5.01 doesn't work.

I had to use version 1.31 to make pfind work properly.

Should this menu item be Image Editor (like mtpaint)
rather than imagebrowser?

It is set to use the default image browser in the preferences. It is of course possible to define mtpaint, but that is not the intention.

Please do NOT use the 1.31 test-version it was only meant for testing.

I am the one to blame for the horrible choice of version-number.

If there are bugs in the official pfilesearch-1.30, we have to track them. Please remove /root/.pfilesearch for a fresh start.

Pfind-5.01 with pfilesearch-1.31 or 1.30 produces problems in dpup exprimo:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 983#644983
Is it dpup exprimo spesific problem ?

The older version of pfilesearch 131 on page 31 works with exprimo
so a change was made a few days later by Zigbert that
modified pfilesearch so that it doesn't search in system files properly.

I was working in the most recent Precise and the
'Delete' menu item wasn't working at all and there
was strange hesitations while trying to use it. Perhaps the
application was trying to update the hit list , believing that
it had deleted a file??
