Hello!

Try Tahrpup 6.0 and the last LxTahrpup (6.0.2), in my brand new Lenovo G4070, with Synaptics Touchpad. Sadly, the left button doesnt work, but the scroll and the right button are working well.

Weirdly, the touchpad is working good with Puppex Tarhpup and LxpupVivid

try swapping in their kernels...grab the vmlinuz & zdrv. sfs from one of the working pups....then open quickpet, click the changing kernels button and read the readme, following the instructions there

The swap with the Puppex Kernel makes the Tharpup crash, and with the Vivid Kernel, the touchpad doesnt work at all :(

I think im gonna stick with your Vivid... it runs flawlessly on the Lenovo, im gonna put the report on your Vivid post...

I need that Debian compatibility..... Im gonna miss the Quickpet

Pup save over 4GB

#546 Post by newbie7800 »

Hi there

First thanks to 666philb for the work done on Tahrpup. This is my first time using Puppy Linux and I have found this distro to be excellent.

A couple of newbie problems with pup save. Using the instructions from Pendrive linux I created a casper-rw file and extended it to beyond 4GB (I purchased a 32gb flash drive to use with puppy linux).

This worked fine. I then logged into puppy linux and thinking I would need to resize the save file using the resizing tool I extended the size by 4GB (this was the maximum available). On rebooting, it showed the save file being resized to 8GB. If I click on the save file properties tab it shows the file as being 8GB but the "personal storage" icon (bottom right of the screen) stays at 3.9GB max size and does not show any change.

When I go into the resize tool it shows correctly the new size of the drive to 8GB and reports the same free space as the personal storage icon.

Why is the personal storage icon reporting only 3.9GB overall space. Further, do I have to keep manually resizing the save file by 4GB increments to take full advantage of the casper-rw resized partition? Any general advice to make sure I am taking full advantage of the ability to resize the casper-rw partition beyond 4GB would be appreciated.

On a separate topic, has anyone got virtualbox working on Tahrpup 6.0.2. Despite installing devx etc mine always failed when building the modules.

Hello @Newbie7800. Welcome to Puppy Linux. Hope this matches your needs.

Assumption
You are running TahrPUP from a DVD or you are running in what is known in Puppy as Frugal.

Scenario
On the initial system use, as a user you tailored your system to match your needs. When you are complete and you started Shutdown or Reboot, TahrPUP offered to have you create a:
  1. "Save Folder" OR
  2. "Save File
Sessions saved
The difference is that using the Save Folder, you NEVER have to ever adjust your save session needs as the folder will grow to match your needs on the partition of your drive. BUT, if you take the Save File option, TahrPUP will create a static sized file where you will have to expand that file whenever it fills.

Consideration
You may want to use the Save-Folder approach as it is save and doesn't require the maintenance headache that Save-file presents.

Hope this info is helpful

Pburn and ffmpeg Files

#548 Post by reedman »

Hey, cowboy. Summary: Running with the tahrpup_6.0.2. Pburn would not write an audio CD. Some kinda error message about installing ffmpeg. Investigated other burners, and most were big, buggy, and bloated. Then I stumbled on your post. Followed your concise instructions, and whaddayaknow, bingo! My dog has stopped growling at pburn, and has just barked his approval as the CD finished. Nutshell: You are welcome at my ranch any time y'all'r'in my neck of the woods. (A lot less dense now 'cause a you.) Thanks, Pard. -Jimmy Arness

newbie7800,

If the partition on the 32gb flash drive is formatted Fat32. The Puppy save file can only be a max size of 4GB. (Fat32 format, file size limit is 4GB).

You can put stuff outside the save file in mnt/home

To see what mnt/home is navigate to it in the file manager.

To use the save to folder option, you will need to format the flash drive in a Linux format ext 2 or 3 and do a fresh install of Tahrpup.

If ffmpeg is not in Tahrpup.

What good is ffconvert?
FFConvert is a frontend of FFmpeg, the multimedia converter.

hi bigpup

tahrpup has a fork of ffmpeg called libav. and the version of ffconvert in tahrpup should work with libav

Newbie
hi newbie7800 ... you will also need the kernel sources installed .... these need to match the kernel you are using ... for a default tahrpup 6.0.2 it's either
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributio ... _6.0.2.sfs for noPAE
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributio ... _6.0.2.sfs for PAE

all other kernel sources are available by typing

Code: Select all

sfsget
in a terminal

note that if you are actually using the tahrpup 6.0 iso you will need to get the ones ending in 6.0

To my ffconv query, 66pholb replied:
i successfully converted an mp4 video to mp3 with ffconvert
in ffconvert i selected the mp4 video ...then chose mp3 preset...then chose libmp3lame on the 'detail' tab in the codec section
I omitted the libmp3lame. I'll try again.

EDIT
Works OK.

If anybody wants to test network_tray-2.7.4:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 653#837653

with svg icons

please install the network_tray-2.7.4 pet followed by one of the attached pets and then restart the window manager or reboot.

Particularly interested in anybody who can test the "lx_icons" with connection types other than wifi and ethernet.

The "woofce_icons" should behave similarly to the current network_tray in tahr-pup.
