I posted an alternative dbus/dbus-glib shared library in the Racy thread in case anyone wants to try the latest firefox/seamonkey/thunderbird(not recommended - use older versions- lately thunderbird is poor - see rob landley's blog)... or anything else that needs dbus or dbus-glib

techno, just wanted to mention... I'm running Thunderbird as my email client and I've not seen nor heard any of the issues that Landley mentions -- is this a Linux-only issue? (I'm still on XP for my main system  )

you only have to compare the build sizes to figure out that mozilla treats linux as 3rd class citizens, with that said, does official thunderbird work with the nobus pet?

I'd like to try eudore-ose sometime too.

Thanks, Technosaurus.

I wish to ask you if it's okay to install the nobus pet alongside dbus and dbus-glib or will they conflict with each other?

ideally you should be able to uninstall it nobus and run ldconfig, if petget doesn't do it automatically as it should.

(I just made symlinks to the SONAME version which ldconfig should replace automatically when it runs)

I have again the problem described on page 46 of this topic: unable to open PDF files with epdfview, zathura, Foxit. Here i paste dmesg error

epdfview[15405]: segfault at 40 ip b75bcb11 sp b6e7d8e8 error 4 in libc-2.10.1.so[b7593000+13a000]

Akita users - how to play/download youtube videos, no flash or browser

- upgrade to VLC-GTK 2.5 and vlc_nogui_lua-1.1.9

Then simply enter any youtube URL in VLC-GTK to play or record!

I have a patch that allows indexed image types to use up to 92 colors instead of 64. Wjaguar plans to implement it differently though. I only patched it because I had a lot of images with 88-92 colors and conversion to 64 didn't always look great and anything over 64 doubled the image size. It's in 1 of the mtpaint threads if anyone wants it.

Thanks for the update, I was gonna do one myself, so that's great!

About the icons, I got them working in Akita.. I just moved the contents of /usr/share/icons/gnome into /usr/share/icons/hicolor, then ran the following:

Code: Select all

gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders > /etc/gtk-2.0/gdk-pixbuf.loaders
/usr/bin/gtk-update-icon-cache -f -i /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
NOTE: the 'Login to Youtube' and 'Play all video results' still have no icons...

I've added the icons to the main Akita pkg, and added a pinstall script to run the code above as well... Works fine :D

Thanks very much.

Tested with firefox 13.01 from Akita repo, works fine :)

Now I need to have a think about what happens if something in the repo still needs dbus...
If I can only use nobus as a dep in repo, that 'll be great.
If I have some apps still needing dbus, and installed, then installing nobus over the top might break that app, I guess...

Thanks for locating the other icons, how did you do it??

BTW, I have got gtk-youtube-viewer to work with VLC-GTK 2.5,
so I've updated the Akita pkg in the repo, it no longer needs mplayer! :D

Cheers!

i had the login icon already and must have forgotten to include it in the pets. For the 'play all videos' icon i had to search through the glade script in /usr/shar/gtk-youtube-viewer to see what is was calling. then i just grabbed a 32x32 icon from google and called it start-here.png
BTW, I have got gtk-youtube-viewer to work with VLC-GTK 2.5,
so I've updated the Akita pkg in the repo, it no longer needs mplayer! Very Happy
can you let me know how you did that. as mplayer audio & video tends to go out of sync on hd streams on my computer.

cheers

I have VLC-GTK 2.5 installed, with vlc 1.1.9 (lua enabled)... I haven't tested a VLC without lua support, but I reckon that won't work. I've linked to vlc_nogui_lua in previous posts if you need it.

I don't know if VLC will be better for HD, I usually watch 360p or 480p

And here are the settings in gtk-youtube-viewer:

Installed again on my craptop. Works fine, just wish I can use my usb wifi adapter :( . I might have to buy a PCMCIA ethernet card (which are hard to find).

EDIT: I know I need the module 2800 or something like that...

Which wifi card is it? There is a thread with loads of extra drivers for 2.6.25.16 from tempestuous... http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=34159

I tend to buy hardware based on whether or not it works with my software, not the other way around..

I just bought 3x Dell Optiplexes: 2x GX620s and 1x 755 Core 2 Duo.. They were about £25 each..
Then I bought 2x LCD monitors, for £20 each.. Had 1 already..
And finally I had to buy 3x USB keyboard+mouse, total £10..
I also just bought 3x wifi adapters for them, £3.50 each..

So far, about £135 total, and 3 working PCs better than my old one :)

Just need to figure out the cheapest, easiest way to get VGA to TV-out..
A cheap, low profile, low power gfx card? Or a cheap VGA to S-Video/HDMI converter?

I don't know the specific model, but it is from Ralink. It works in CorePlus (An official TinyCore flavor), it works on my newer pc with slacko 533, but not Akita.
