QT libs are absolutely needed

#81 Post by Pelo »

QT libs are absolutely needed,[/b] unless the user will be running always the same applications. Users need some pleasure too. Most of people don't buy a laptop to play businessmen (see forum business) or to play changing lines in Linux programs :!:
A Slacko 5.3.3 or a RACY 5.3 or Precise 5.7.1 will give you as much as series 6, and perhaps much more, with lots of pets available.
QT4 and QT5 were a new horizon. I still use My Polarpup Qt 005. It has never been renewed. Idem for TEENPUP.

Post-scriptum Xenial pup 7.0.0 black screen arriving on the desktop. But Tahrpup will be enough for me, untill Xenial brings something.... XenialDog is much more interest.. Sorry to say that here..

However, i download version 7.0.1.

It would be really nice if ROX would revert back to its original behaviour regarding copy/over-write.

Will there be a 64bit release?

666philb, your hard work is appreciated.
May I ask whether there will be a 64bit release of Xenialpup?

Restart X Server by menu entry as well as exiting to Prompt and to restart X Server manually (by typing xwin) works fine in DE.

Since the JWM menu structure is XML this could be a problem of some special characters used in langpack_fr.

E.g.: for character & XML needs & to work properly.

Probably the your langpack developer just isn't aware of this?
Thanks for your answer LazY Puppy.
I think it's something like you say. But i use the same langpack with tarhpup and it's ok.
I use the last langpack by esmourguit for woof ce puppies : ftp://download.tuxfamily.org/toutou/5xx ... Slacko_6./
Can you test if it works for you ?
Maybe Pelo can test also ?

Anybody didn'tt note xorg/rox/lxpanel are very hungry of ram ?

Thanks,

Regarding the above attached wallpaper/screenshot:

- since we are in puppy linux and since we are experienced, all we need to see is a P or a p
- the true and trusty Puppy user already knows what's behind a P or a p

No need to complain!

Ok,

since I have langpack_fr-20141219 in T.O.P.L.E.S.S., I booted into DE interface and switched to FR after X desktop was ready for a use. Restart X Server from menu as well as exiting to prompt and restart X by typing xwin into the prompt works nice.

Installing langpack_fr-20150414 (those from the your link) didn't made any difference. All equal results of restarting X server.

Must be something else...

Probably corrupted download of ISO or LangPack?

Ok.

I had already heard about Google images and a function to search for images, but did never watched and tried it.

Now I'd done...

...entered just Space into the search field and, WOW, what wonderful images/wallpapers.

Thanks for reminding me to Google images. :)

Hi oui, ...bonjour ! :D
oui wrote:after frugal start (manual) following error: system extremely slow about frozzen, no text on the screen (under app's icons / in popup messages).

I did download again and reinstall a second time, same thing...
1. what do you mean by "frugal start (manual)"?

2. I already got that sort of display running other Puppies, especially when first time booting from live-cd; or also when X isn't yet properly configured.

3.I noticed this to happen on computer featured with "problematic" garphic configuration (mine is the well  known
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)
which I've been using for years and tested with a lot of Puppies and also with Xenialpup (see 5 hereunder)

4. here is a workaround with that sort of display and behaviour (slow):
4.1. do as if you had got the expected display (that's a kind of "blind flying") and select the right keyboard and locale;
4.2 then click OK. Afterwards the Restart X proposal is displayed: click OK. There the right display should be displayed.

5. Running Xenialpup for the 1st time from live-cd with the above reported graphic confiiiguratiob:
5.1. I got the expected display at first pristine boot from live-cd;
5.2. Problems occured after the Restart X proposal. So it meant that the automatically selected graphic configuration was OK;
5.3. To keep that initial graphic configuration, solution is not to click on Restart X proposal.
5.4. Then the pupsave file can be created by rebooting the system with the right configutation kept.

I can't tell more.

Cheers,
(Cordialement)
Charlie

In fact it works with langpack-en... just the time of the live session ! Even in english with a save folder the prolem is the same : black screen when i want to restart the x server.

gcc on XenialPup 7.0.1 incorrectly reports /usr/lib/libudev.so as missing, even after installing (via flash drive & petget in console mode!) the requisite libudev-dev package from Ubuntu Launchpad.

When that is fixed, I'll be able to cough up a working openchrome *.so and *.la for XenialPup...

Langpack-en? Never heard of a langpack for EN...

However, I'm running generally in RAM (PUPMODE=5, no save file, no save folder in use) and that's how I'd made my testings.

I may test again using save file / save folder...

Ok.

Reset xenial puppy to original (used the original initrd.gz to boot - since its content is the only thing to be changed when making it T.O.P.L.E.S.S.) and made all testings again using the langpack_fr-20150414.pet for french interface.

Testings made by save file as well as by save folder.

All equal results as in my previous testings.

Totally no problems to restart X server!

Thanks again for your new test.
Of course there is no langpack EN : it is only the language by default.
So, it works fine only on live session !
Finally i think about a hardware problem, mayby the video card (intel i915 module).

Yes, I thought also about the graphics/video card.

Mine is a ATI card (MSI R5450 MDIGH) 1024 MB DDR3.
