Macpup Dingo
Macpup - Change Destination of icons
I have just installed Macpup as an addition to Dingo and would agree with others here that it looks excellent.
The only query I have, is that is it possible to change the default programs associated on the bar, for example I use aMsn instead of pidgin for Chat, and I use Open Office instead of Abi word.
If I could do this, it would make it perfect.
Thanks in advance.

Changing Destinations of wbar icons
One of the best things about MacPup is the ease of changing the programs designated by the wbar at the bottom. In /root, hit CTRL+h to show hidden files. One such file is .wbar. Open it and you will see that each item has an "i" line (for icon), a "c" line (for program), and a "t" line (for text). Change the "c" line to point to any program you want. You can also change the icon and the text associated with the icon. It's so easy even an australopithecus could do it.
@json1308:
You can achieve this by editing the file /root/.wbar (this is a hidden file and will show by pressing Ctrl-H in Rox.
Below 3 lines are present for every program on the wbar.
1st line is the icon image for the program
2nd line is the program executable with the path
3rd line is the text for the program

Code: Select all
i:/usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps/chat48.png
c:/usr/local/bin/defaultchat
t:chat

3rd line is the text for the program

Good to hear about Icecat. I am up for trying any new stuff available for Puppy. I will test this one out and post back on your thread.
Yeah this time, the response for Macpup was much better. Also I dont know if you saw the pet package called Macgic. The link is on my signature. You can install it over a regular Dingo and also uninstall to be restored back to your previous desktop. I worked with CatDude to create this one. Ofcourse using your light version of Icewm.

Re: mixer - customize menu - symlink to desktop
Sorry it took me a while, I actually forgot about that, So many things on the go, Like Fire Hydrant, Living Water, Helping regular users, wife, kids, work etc. I should of been a juggler, lolBene Belt wrote:hi
i love the style! jepp and with the right .sfs included it rocks my machine. but i havent figured out how to add panel miniprograms. like the gmixer. it was so handy just to use mouse wheel over the little icon, which is now missing. so i tried to symlink it to the desktop with drag n drop. didnt match. so how about th e customized task bar? couldnt i use the miniprograms anymore like "kill process"? or system monitor?
so long
Bene
anyways heres a patch for "KP" I actually have a better process manager that works by left clicking the blue memory icon, like you wanted and select kp.
The volume on the taskbar is impossible at this point because of puppy 4 and icewm, it worked ok on puppy 3.0
I've tried maybe 40 different sound mixers and other applications trying to sort this issue out, with no luck. anyways here your file you wanted.
ttuuxxx
it also put a menu entry in menu/System/LxTask Process Manager
I Just also built a program that gives you all your mounted hard drive information, its not the fanciest thing, but it works well and its extremely small, now 2 out of 3 things work when you left click the blue memory icon on the taskbar. The only thing is the help file which really isn't needed, Also all 3 of those things aren't in dingo, they were dropped because they were based on tlc/tk so they are basically extras now. Both together add a whole 15kb, lol

Thanks for this pet package and the feedback.
I am sure, folks who want to try out text instead of icons would love and appreciate this package. I myself will install it soon.

Hi Prit I also remastered your default theme and renamed it, so it doesn't get mixed up
Basically I
-removed the task bar button borders
-Gave the blue apple a proper background and fixed the edges a bit.
-and change the active button background to a reverse non-active background. Looks sleeker
It was bugging me so I did it Now I can sleep
enjoy

I am preparing to download Mac On Linux and macutils to my laptop and seeing if I can get them to compile on it. I have not been able to get them to compile properly on my tower. Given I am presently running MacPup on the laptop vice ChurchPup 3.01 on the tower, I am hoping this will make a difference. I will post again later tonight.
The only windows I have are those on my home.
@ttuuxxx:
Am gonna try out this latest from you.
BTW, do you have any other ideas on how the apple logo can be replaced with something Puppyish. Catdude did this with Puppy logo and is available on the macpup website as MacpupThemes1.0 pet package.

Certainly.
I would love to help extent the functions available to this particular puplet.
You can find Mac On Linux at:
http://mac-on-linux.sourceforge.net/
I have tried twice to compile it. Perhaps I have overlooked something. I know that the sfs files are mounted so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I'll try in about 10 mins, It takes about 10 mins for me to install devx_400
I compile live and use a pet package I made up, Its more complete, than the default compiler, But being a pet package it takes a lot of time to get up and running, and uses a lot more ram, around 1Gig of ram while its installing and then 400MB total when its installed, I have 4 gigs of ddr2 800 so the ram is no problem. Ok Its installed , I'll try to compile it now.

Ok its not the compiler, Its the kernel, Basically you have to make a system link /lib/modules/2.6.1-rc1 to /lib/modules/2.6.21.7, then type
bash autogen.sh
make
Once I did that link it started working.
I read some of the "Building.txt" file thats enclosed with the file and this is what it said. Thats how I got the idea about the link.
MOL uses a couple of kernel modules (the core MOL engine and networking
related modules). It is very important that kernel modules are compiled
using the correct kernel headers. Kernel modules should *always* be
compiled using the same headers as was used to build the kernel. If
headers from a different kernel version is used (or even from a
different kernel configuration), then the result will probably not be a
usable kernel module.
Assuming the currently running kernel is 2.6.1-rc1, MOL expects the symlink
/lib/modules/2.6.1-rc1/build
to point to the kernel headers used when the kernel was built. This symlink
is normally created during the 'make modules_install' step of the kernel
build process.
If the symlink above does not exist, then MOL looks for the kernel source
in /usr/src/linux. It is possible to instruct MOL to look at an alternative
location by compiling MOL as follows:
make KERNEL_SOURCE=/path/to/kernel/source
make install
Warning: It is quite common that distributions ship broken kernel headers.
If that is the case, the easiest solution probably is building a custom kernel.
(which I found a simple way around) But now your own your own, Good Luck,
bash autogen.sh
make
