Hello @Edoc. There has been a lot of questions over the forum in the past 2 weeks about Youtube and sound. I am not a big youtube user. So, I don't have ANY firsthand knowledge. Some of the problems are specific to browsers, some to flash, and some to just the youtube site while having sound on other sites, etc.

I found this webpage which may have something helpful.

Most of the problems here are when using Seamonkey, I wonder why?

Seamonkey is a nicely-integrated bundle of apps.

Given their history it's fair to wonder if google may be sabotaging non-chrome browsers:
Ever since Google absorbed youtube, it's been bad for everyone.
What did google change in YouTube and why?

I like the idea of moving away from proprietary to HTML5 and the WebM format, and ditching the H.264 video codec.

Are there any security implications and how much resistance is there among the corporate monopolists?

Devx is unchanged (except for the little g). By the way, Icecat runs html5, https-everywhere (nearly) and has it's own libre-'java' and media pluggin.

Neither Firefox, IceCat, or Seamonkey show up in Gslapt as an alternative to Dillo.

IceCat also does not show up as an alternative in Packages.

Should that be the case?

If I want to try IceCat where do I find a SFS that will work, please?

Hello @Edoc,

I've noticed that @Dry Falls has this site for related download packs of a particular distro from him.

Hope this helps

In Icecat, loaded from Menu, sound does work in YouTube - at least on the post I tested.

I tried to load Seamonkey from the google drive location ...

In Icecat, loaded from Menu, Google drive does not respond to an attempt to download.

Why might that be, please?

I tried turning off the default SpyBlock for that page but that didn't help.

Loaded Seamonkey & sound works fine with it.

Seamonkey downloads OK from the google drive - I had to get the Flash update for Crackle.com movies to play.

Printing was behaving badly last night - I'm getting a permissions error.

Will test further later today ...

Ran out of day ... will try in the morning ... suggestions encouraged!

The permissions error happens when I try to add a printer - connected to the laptop - from Icacat or Seamonkey.

It happens whether I open them from Menu, the bottom toolbar, or Console.

BTW: I see this error when I start Seamonkey from Console:
bash-4.2# seamonkey

(process:32500): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed
<root> ~
bash-4.2#

edoc, you should be able to ignore those error messages from the terminal. In an earlier post I mentioned that Tazoc warned us in a script that cups doesn't (always) work with seamonkey. In an even older post, I mentioned that Icecat was for the 'security-sensitive' user. It is set up that way, but can be re-configured to give permissions. That's kind of a pain in the but. If you had set up the printer at first boot like I've arranged it, you'd notice a little yellow flashy which suggests using Konqueror-spot as the default browser for the purpose of setting up your printers with cups (you can change it later). Cups should work fine from there.

It's built in (kde browser). 4_kde*sfs autoloads at first bootup.

uploaded libevent-2.0.21-x86_64-1.txz to gdrive. This fixes an incomplete previous installation (and is a slight upgrade). I've also reverted back to the original busybox, which does a bit more with less than the new and improved version. It can be extracted from any lighthouse/JL64 prior to 06-21-2015 and placed in /bin.

I'll need some help with this.

I don't see "busybox" when I open an iso.

Where do I extract it from, please?

Thanks!

EDIT: I should have picked up on the clue sooner ... went to /bin on my laptop with an old version of original LH64 and copied "busybox" to the USB stick ... along with the 4 new "repair" delta upgrades, and the "libevent" .txz Unfortunately in the middle of this the target laptop died (graphics chip may be fried). Moved the HDD to a Samsung NB30 Netbook for now - then to a Dell D630 when the PS arrives. Always an adventure!
