i have had good working with hampup but its based on puppy 3 and i need more hardware support.
hampup has PSKMAIL and FLdigi great packages but its time for a new puplet with all the best ham software on an sfs file. i would say lets build it with 511 because it covers all the hardware issues.
at the moment i run puppeee betas and 511 on my eeepc and have several ways to connect to my ft817 and would be glad to test anyones compiles on my setup.

I am suggesting first to compile a list of ham software that should make it into the project, so a digimode (prob fldigi is the most reliable), several hamvoip protocols starting with echolink for its popularity, a logging and contesting package that links to qrz.net etc. some voice recording/loopers to automate tiring cq calls, and a nice realtime audio processor and filter box. pskmail is a must for seafarers and remote dxpeditioners to access basic email and text based web info via HF. Some satelite tracking, EME and meteorscatter predicion, gps and APRS with repeater info and lists of popular local frequencies. repeater ops software, antenna calculators, a utc clock in 24hour format, synced to a server or better still gps clock standard. and a nice sstv!

strip out all the office bloat and games along with other nonessentials but keep xorg for easy changing between keymaps.
as ham tend to pack up the kit and go on adventures a lot, desktop should be kept suitable for small screen laptops and tablets,
puppy is an excellent base for hams as we have lots of old pcs and junk we loath to throw.

in puppy 5.X its really easy to run hamradio Linux software cause 5.X is fully compatible with ubuntu lucid repository. Just click 'n install with all dependency nedded, from package manager.

yep, the puppy iso's on the hermes server have it! excelent work
i am getting a pskmail server up and running after i sort out some issues on save files.

This sounds like a neat app - I had been told there was nothing for SSTV that was currently-supported and Linux-native.

I'd like to use this with Squeeze 5x9 Exprimo (and future releases of the Puplet) - does that appear possible from either of the compiles they offer? Or would it be a huge project to make it Puppy Squeeze-friendly?

I bought this one to build a digital storage oscilloscope.
Freeware can e.g. be found under the name "zeitnitz", which is a fine program!
The CM119 inside has, unlike most other soundcard controllers, no digital highpass
inside, which means that it can measure also DC, if the input capacitor is removed
(can be found easily on the PCBoard).
Then it works on your computer with a bandwidth of app. 15kHz, which is enough
for many purposes of DIY electronics.
The "Zeitnitz" tool also adds a two channel signal generator and FFT function!

Bottomline:
Great for DIY purposes, but also works good as a simple soundcard

I had a similar problem with the Behringer uca202...both usb sound devices have kernel driver so should just work
Problem is caused by mainboard soundchip clashing

So... did anyone get SSTV working in puppy yet?

there is LOTS of sstv going on 14 mhz now and i am missing it!

Please can anyone post QSSTV or other soundcard software wrapped for puppy in a pet or sfs?

also, im still having problems routing audio in and out to a bluetooth mono headset (adapted into a dongle for my ft817) at the moment the only device that works ok is my hp hx2790 with pocketdigi and winmo 5 and that gives too much distortion over the bluetooth link to run asny mode other than RTTY, even psk31 falls down with this choppy distortion on transmit.

first and foremost SSTV! PLEASE!

Note that both rx and tx code is available in 32 and 64 bit.

I am guessing that this will not be compatible with Puppy Linux (my current version is Exprimo 5x15) unless recompiled - is that a reasonable assumption?

The Generic Kernel is a one size fits all compromise made to work on MOST systems. It is customized for the distro. The distros with kernels > 2.6.28 are up to date and stable. They do not require any customization. I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server straight out of the box. Ubuntu Server Versions later than 10.10 have not been tested but seem to be stable – ax25 wise.

Debian distros with kernels up to 2.6.38 have been used with success.

Can someone have a look and see about a PET or SFS, please?
