If you want to try the KDE4 desktop, you can:

a) Change to it with the window manager (Desktop->desktop settings->WM switcher)

b) Just run it on top of you current window manager by typing "startkde" into a console (Probably good if you just want to have a quick peek at what it's like)

c) Log in through kdm. This is done by exiting X and then typing in "kdm" into the prompt. This will allow KDE to run the way it was designed to, but it requires you to add a non root user. I had trouble with this because I'm not familiar with non root user procedures (having been a puppian all my Linux life) .

Ok , none of this seems to work... :(

Hi Jason,

Have you checked to see if the SFS you downloaded has the correct MD5sum? It should be: de23f44e93f734fa84eb2a98745c6cac

Are you running a frugal or full installation and are you running Lucid 528?

What is the message that displays after typing "startkde" into a console?

Thanks for coming back with the requested info.

Hmmm ok, full installation, that tends to complicate things. How did you install the the SFS?

Did you use quickpet on the desktop, then the "SFS" menu at the top and then "Sfs_grabber" to install the pet or another method?

Ah yes, well that will be it. SFSs on full installations are a bit more complicated, but certainly doable.

Try following these steps:

1. Go to "quickpet" on the desktop.

2. Then to the "SFS" menu at the top and click "Sfs_grabber".

3. Drag the KDE4.sfs to the entry box, and it should install.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks oui, appreciate the positive feedback. :) Hope you get an answer for your questions on the KDE forum. I've always intended to try and sort out the "Lost and Found" issue, but have never had the time to really work on it. :?

I think he means this:
josejp2424 wrote:oui, ami all the programs I've installed are sent to lost+found, but I relocate them manually. I drag the program to its location. Leave some cap how can I put a shutdown and a reboot [entry] on the panel and a Google Chrome [entry] on Internet [category]?

Sorry for my English, I'm using Google Translate.

battleshooter I'm happier and happier with your SFS, I'm finding one or two things that can be improved.
OK, I didn't understand the 'leave some cap' part  but basically this is what he's trying to say.

Haha, thanks vicmz, it's times like this I really wish I spoke Spanish and French :)

@josejp2424 I'll do what I can into fixing these problems, but I only have the weekends and sometime not even that as the semester goes on. Hopefully though, I can find some time and find some fixes and then upload a new shiny new KDE4 sfs with all the fixes.

deragoku wrote:This is a no real shutdown regret. Maybe it's just a configuration file, need to be adjusted?
If you log in with KDM shutdown works fine. Can't remember if I fixed up the config file to shutdown correctly. It's been awhile since I've used KDE4.

I'm interested in your SFS new version because of this :
Now phonon has a backend so Juk works and there is KDE notification sounds.
Does it fix problem sound in KDE when i use a computer and used on another computer?

thx
