Latest CrunchBang huge surprise. I booted it on fat32 formatted USB
using rcrsn51 Issobooter method. Works very good. Boot iso no hassle.
One need to edit the Menu.lst in case ir fails but it was easy
following his instruction.

Now the big surpise is that ChrunchBang allow me to do almost all
that Puppy do and that is not what I thought because last time
I tested CB then nothing could be done at all.

So in case you are curious do give it a try.
I could change html files and edit names
save files downloaded and even move from
Root to the HD. The only think lacking is persistence
of changes.

Zorin OS worked well too and Porteus and PureOS .
All these could edit on HD and had the needed Adobe flash
built in from scratch so easy to use them live no need to install

That way one can have them on a usb stick as small as 1GB
and always fresh?

Thanks for the recommendation nooby. Crunchbang will be my next one; I agree it looks good at the moment.

I've also tried the latest beta of OpenSUSE 12.3 (full release due in March); it's a good live disk IMO with a very smart looking theme (in KDE anyway) but I haven't installed it yet.

A quick update; I'm now using OpenSUSE 12.3 r2. It installed after a couple of teething troubles, but once I booted it up and installed it it wanted to go on a big downloading spree (including 77 MB for fresh KDE wallpapers) which I could have done without. It's taken me up to over 300 MB so far, not including the 690 MB for the original SUSE disk. Also, even with just Konqueror and Konsole running Conky shows 662 MB of RAM in use, so I couldn't have run it on my old machine with just 512 MB of RAM.

Still, SUSE has never claimed to be a lightweight distro and it does at least work. Probably worth hanging on for a month though for the official 12.3 release in mid-March, or until all the problems are sorted (whichever is sooner).

While testing out Isobooter from rcrsn51 I noticed
that Chrome on different OS could have different filters
set on from scratch. One OS had no filter activated
so it accepted my local TV station streamed feed right away
while the Chrome in WattsOS had a filter activated
and it took minutes for me to get it going and I still have
no idea what I did so I can not tell others or get it going
next time I boot up so being stoopid and lazy I would avoid
that OS which is sad due to it was rather fast and not using much resources?

Been running Stella .... based on CentOS. Still has good old Legacy Grub and Gnome 2.Even the wobbly windows work.

I've been using Linux Mint 14 Nadia 64 bit version with XFCE4 for a
couple of weeks and it's working well on everything from a emachines
D620 laptop with a single core processor to a multicore desktop pc.
I like the software updates feature, I downloaded and installed Google
Chrome from the Google website and updates for that are found along
with the regular Mint software and security updates.
I still like Puppy too of course

Yeah, Stella's good. It takes all the work out of setting up and running CentOS.

Another recommendation; I'm running Snow 4.0 at the moment and I like it a lot. I had a couple of problems with Snow 3, but 4 seems to to be trouble-free. I haven't had it on long but so far it looks like a good competitor for Mint.

Porteus 2.0 was just released today....... both 32 and 64 bit versions. Standard 32 bit desktop is now Razor-qt ....

I just spent an hour in PCLOS KDE MiniME 2013.02. It was well-organized, but it didn't do anything out of the box. And it was sluggish. The ISO was 550 MB in size, much smaller than that of PCLOS KDE 2013.02 at 1382 MB. Compared to this, I have to say, boocoops respect for the Pups.

I got curious on Manjaro so I downloaded it
and put it on a 4GB USB using the method
that rcrsn51 describe as IsoLoader on this thread

isoboot on USB but seems to have got so disappointed
me even deleted the iso so that is surprising if it is that good.

I'm a spoiled all man obviously.

What was it about Watt OS that you like that much?

Hi,

It's visually attractive but also lightweight for a Ubuntu-based distro, so it runs well on older computers whilst also being able to access the huge Ubuntu repositories. I also like the name (a watt is a unit of power).

Still no sign of WattOS so I've reinstalled CrunchBang instead. If you don't mind the dark and somewhat spartan interface it's a good Debian-based distro in my view.

and install a full install to a 4GB USB and then add phyton

That program need latest phyton but that does not work
in live version one need full install as I get it?

I tried to use this boot code which failed. Error says something
about path or name. So it needs some correct way to set it up.

Just tried Joli OS 1.2, full install on a partition of a fast 32gb ssd on my Asus EEE 900.

Could not believe how slow it was, everything from browsing to bringing up the control panel. Plus the layout is incomprehensible.

First Linux I've tried that was really bad. All others so far have had their positive sides, but I didn't find one here, other than the fact that I like the *premise* of Jolicloud.

I was disappointed that alinux would not boot for me. It took over 5 hrs to download it but the md5 appeared to be ok so I burned a rw dvd. There is a post in the comments section of distrowatch indicating that the dl links are dead and that there may be an issue with the dvd.

I read about Slax 7.0 and got curious and downloaded it
and made a frugal install and it booted fast and well.
Root and can do much of what Puppy do to but maybe
us a bit different due to K windows instead of JWM

flash already install in Firefox so it was easy to use it.

About 200MB
