By the look of its features, Telegram Messenger seems to be a nice piece of software. It is available for all platforms, including 32 and 64bit Linux desktop computers.

Major features are messages heavily encrypted, the sending of documents of any type, storage of media in the cloud. automatic destruction of messages with a timer, access from multiple devices, fast delivery of messages, and no ads, and no subscription fees.

You may wonder why is it available for free with such features. We live in the post-Snowden era, and such apps with encryption as a core feature are cropping up every day as a counter-measure to the wide-spread spying on the part of some, if not all, governments.
