You need to use XFree86 to use NV drivers...Unless kdrive has a NV driver but that would need compiling.

Search the forum for XFree86..........

i just installed Puppy 1.0.3 with Xfree86-4.4.0 iso to my hard drive.
i want to use either xfree's nv server or the driver from nvidia.
i am unsure which xfree86 precompiled binary to download to get it to work.

vtwin,
You reported that the screen is "squished in the middle" -- I wonder if that is a monitor problem?

I would like to get feedback from anyone else with Nvidia video chip.
...any problem with the display in different resolutions?

I could maybe supply a fix in Puppy 1.0.4, as I'm working on incorporating framebuffer kernel driver modules and the Xfbdev Kdrive X server (this is not the full XFreee 4.4.0 X server!). There is a kernel module for nvidia, but I wasn't going to include it as didn't know of any problems with Nvidia and the current Xvesa X server used in Puppy.

If you reckon that the Nvidia special framebuffer driver should be included, help me out by running this command:

Code:
# cat /proc/pci | grep "VGA"

...report back what it returns. As was mentioned in another thread today, to copy from rxvt is real easy, just drag the mouse cursor over the text and it is automatically placed in the clipboard.

My other computer is a H-P with an nVidia Vanta card in it. Here's what I get:

Quote:

# cat /proc/pci | grep "VGA"
VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV6 [Vanta/VantaLT] (rev 21).
#

The puppy 1.0.3 video wizard offers up to 1024x768x24 straight out of the box. I've not changed a thing.

i have a envision eft720 flat screen monitor. it works fine in xp with the nvidia drivers.
i have been messing with the XF86config monitor settings and it's better but i have a small inward curve on the left bottom side of the screen.

thanks for your help,

pete

XFree86-4.4.0 glibc-2.3

The binaries I used where stright of the precompiled binaries from the XFree86 site......If you can wait a bit I can post the nv driver for you if you'd like.

# modprobe nv_drv
/lib/modules/2.4.27/nv_drv.o: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for

Yeah I noticed the airo error before, but very few use that module I didn't really think it was a major problem....I'll wait and see..

What was you source for the nv_drv ?

I was meaning that XFree itself has a nv driver, I know I use it myslef on 2 other machines I have, come to think of it those problems didn't occur using the vesa module......Are you in a position to try another monitor, as it just may well be a H or V frequency issue.

it just might be a monitor issue. i'll try messing with the sync again.

i got thexmod.tgz from
xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.4.0/binaries/Linux-ix86-glibc23

thanks, pete
