Hello, all.
There's been a discussion on the French side for about a week at
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 682#864682
about using the real rdate to update a computer's clock when the mother-board battery
is getting old and starting to fail.
I've just published a bilingual version there.
Since space is at a premium on this board I won't repeat myself, especially because the
blingual version above has identical comments in English and in French.
However, I will gladly answer any questions you may have below and provide
translations if need be.
Again, because space is at a premium on this forum, I will not be duplicating here the
material that was uploaded there, in particular the freshly compiled openrdate (aka rdate).

In a nutshell, my script is not a replacement for the general timesync.sh script by
member Lance, which is included in every Puppy and typically used when you indicate
your time-zone when you set up your first Puppy session.
My script is much simpler. Its only purpose is to update your clock during any session --
until you find the time and money to replace the round battery on your mother-board.
Which I insist that you do ASAP if you can, since it's the only real solution to this. (BTW,
replacing the battery on the mother-board is much simpler than it seems.)
You can either press 'q' to close the window or let it close itself after 9 seconds.
~~~~~~~~~~
Enjoy.
- I used the script on an already sync'd clock, sorry. But you get the idea!
Hello all.
The only purpose of this post is to rise this thread from the dead!
I came back here today because I needed to install the real rdate / openrdate utility plus the
companion script, and I just realized that there had been no interest for it on the Anglo side.
Your bad! Or maybe your nickel-sized computer batteries never run out or you have
the knack of always being on time!
BFN.
Good source, close to home. Important, that.Flash wrote:I mostly trust the battery-powered clock on my wall, which I set using time.gov.
Euh... you go to the time.gov site and you set the clock manually, right?
Or you just concentrate to set the clock? (telepathically)
