First 2 versions ran fine, this version no problems either. Performance is great with web video news sites, etc. Basically ethernet, wired to wrt54g running openwrt, client mode wireless.

This is running frugal in folder on debian 9x system. Installed by:
7z x stretch-7.0.0a2-k4.9.61-10Nov2017.iso to extract files.
Then added script to /etc/grub.d for grub 2 boot, update-grub.
I was a little rusty on those boot parameters, but I think the psubdir= did the trick.

I did a frugal install on old IBM server with intel graphics chip
and it booted up without needing any fiddling.

Very nice.

One strange thing I noticed , when I install pho 32bit
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 223#974223

I could only create a captions file by typing in terminal

Code: Select all

pho -k *.jpg

I installed applications with PPM.

Had a problem when using the CPU Frequency Scaling Tool, it was set to
performance and couldn't be changed.
I added "intel_pstate=disable" to the kernel line of the menu.lst file
and that fixed it:
kernel /stretch-700a2-n10/vmlinuz intel_pstate=disable psubdir=stretch-700a2-n10 pmedia=usbflash pfix=fsck

Another problem with retrovol, I used the alsa sound wizard and chose
to use the speaker in one of the monitors, I can adust the sound level
in vlc, smplayer, and kodi but volume control in the tray won't budge.

Streaming video is very good.

Hi Radky,

I was using the previous stretch you'd put up week before last, and honestly found zero problems with it. I mean, for my purposes, I couldn't find one single thing I had to fix and/or correct. That is rare with pup releases, at least what I've come across. I think your DE skills shine through on your pup, as things are very polished, look gorgeous, and a person isn't dealing with what should be fixed headaches before releasing (links, .desktop files, icons missing from menu, etc, etc).

A few days ago, I downloaded stretch-7.0.0a2-k4.1.46-10Nov2017.iso, and have been running it----and I don't know how to say or give any other high praise except for this: it's sublime

Thank you very much.

I even finally decided to delete my montrousity of Dpup-Stretch-700a1 that I put together back in February/March with your Fbox 3.0 (or was it 4.0?) DE as default in it. Your creation here is soooo much nicer. And with Firefox 32 (I installed it in /opt FF 52.4.1) now supporting Netflix and making it braindead easy (like Chrome) to enjoy Netflix anywhere, it just put the icing on the cake.

This pup is a definite long-term keeper. :D

Thanks for the report don570. At the moment, I'm not familiar with your pho app but it looks promising.

Thank you belham2 for testing this alpha-3 release. Your kind comments are certainly appreciated.

In a few days this distro will move to beta status in a separate forum thread.

Thanks for the reminder Bill. It seems the kernel devs recommend using intel_pstate for recent intel chips, but there are reports this scaling driver does not function correctly in some scenarios. In problematic cases like yours, adding "intel_pstate=disable" to the kernel line of menu.lst will allow the selection of a different scaling driver.

Retrovol works well for most users, but there are reports of incompatibility with some Pup installs, or even crashing with segmentation faults. I don't have a mac (or Macmini) for testing, but maybe you could test the attached retrovol binary compiled in Dpup Stretch from the most recent sources of 01micko's fork of retrovol.

Edit: attachment removed

Thanks

Just remove the false gz extension.

Make a backup of your current retrovol binary, then place this testing version in /us/bin and restart X server.

Thanks
I renamed the retrovol.gz and changed the permissions, put it in
/usr/bin and rebooted, tried to configure retrovol but no change, I see
a flash but no message so retrovol may be segfaulting I guess.

I have changed from the monitor speaker to plugging external 2.1
speakers into the headphone jack on the Macmini and running the sound
wizard again.
Retrovol disappeared altogether from the tray but I have sound where I
should, palemoon, kodi, vlc, smplayer. The volume control for the speakers
is within reach and the sound is better than the monitor speaker so I'm
happy, enjoying Oldieradio Florida from kodi atm :)

Thanks.

I installed to a 32gb SDHC card, added gkrellm and inxi with PPM.
Have connected a monitor and wireless mouse + keyboard.
Palemoon runs but it's hard work for this pc, will give links a try.
Should be able to browse with links while listening to music with
Deadbeef or pmusic.
TAS makes the CPU spike when taking a screenshot.

Why not a topic about Dpup Stretch ?

#1183 Post by hamoudoudou »

Why not a topic about Dpup Stretch ? Information is lost here, title 'Woof-CE needs you'
Is Dpup-Stretch only For training or for Public release ? Who is the Project leader ?
One version as Public would not stop development, as Xenial does not prevent developers going on zesty, artful, Bionic..
We cannot keep ten flavours, even if satisfied. One has to be elected.
We could choose Puppy or Debian Dog to install in schools in Marroco, so you can understand people will not change everyday the version. And we will need somebody to help.
Of course computing is a little part of the project, but not a tiny one.

I kind of agree, the iso has enough fixes and enhancements that are not in woof-CE that it could be considered a derivitive, either way it's great to see radky improving Stretch. Maybe when it goes to beta and it's own thread it can be added to the official page eventually too: http://puppylinux.com/download.html

The replacement volume icon on taskbar in radky's newest iso is still acting strange for me, I think the one in the original Stretch / Puduan in woof-CE works for me though, maybe the problem Billtoo and I are having with this one is hardware specific?

Maybe when it goes to beta and it's own thread it can be added to the official page eventually too: http://puppylinux.com/download.html

The replacement volume icon on taskbar in radky's newest iso is still acting strange for me, I think the one in the original Stretch / Puduan in woof-CE works for me though, maybe the problem Billtoo and I are having with this one is hardware specific?

Well, if Billtoo and you would use proper "puppy hardware", i.e. minimum 8-10 year old stuff that creaks, groans and sometimes decides to take a day off, and not all that new fangled stuff, then the volume icon would work!

P.S. Volume icon has been always working great on my Luddite machines here.

"Why not a topic about Dpup Stretch ? Information is lost here, title 'Woof-CE needs you'
Is Dpup-Stretch only For training or for Public release ? Who is the Project leader ? "
Specific Topic now created by Radky I suppose That i can replace tttuxxx , sailor enceladus versions by radky's one . They were working nice, Devs working together under leadership of one was a clever idea.
'For testing" By who ?
All feed backs give 'Green light' 8)
Questions to be transfered to Dpup Stretch Topic .

Woof-CE needs me ? Really ? Surprising.

Did you know that the Luddites were actually great adopters of technical innovation - despite the fact that the term is generally used to suggest that a person does not like new technology.

In fact the Luddites were only fighting against technology that made people redundant and impoverished.

"New" is not "better" unless it advances human enjoyment of life and freedom.

I like being a Luddite.

I am having problems today building with woof-ce testing. I posted on the Users forum section but it would be better here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=112126

I get this error during the running of #./3builddistro-Z

Code: Select all

* Extracting initrd_progs-20170322-static.tar.xz...
Arch: x86_64

* Using default locale
* Using default keymap

*** INITRD: initrd.gz [x86_64]
*** /DISTRO_SPECS: xenialpup64 7.0.8.4 x86_64

chroot: can't execute 'echo': No such file or directory
ERROR: could not 'chroot' into sandbox3/rootfs-complete
This means that something is incomplete, perhaps a library
needed by bash. Check it out. Have to exit script now.
during the running of 3builddistro-Z it exits early no ISO is made.
I am attempting to build Xenial 64bit with the kernel option 31 using woof-CE-testing on a Tahr 6.0.6 64bit.
any help will be totally appreciated!

Hi Rockedge,

In the woof-out*/packages-xenial64/busybox/bin folder, there should be a shortcut called "echo", which gets copied into rootfs-complete. Does it exist? If not, what is the partition you're working from formatted as?? I remember SailorE saying awhile back it's gotta be something (building in woof seems to prefer Ext2 or 4) that can create Linux shortcuts. If its not, then that "can't execute ECHO..." error will pop up.
