AirCard 810S

#1 Post by smokey01 »

Does anyone know how to achieve port forwarding with this device?

It's quite similar to the AC790S that's been around for a little while now.

I left a message on the Netgear community forums but no replies as yet.

This is the device: http://www.netgear.com.au/service-provi ... C810S.aspx

The manual: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ ... ug2015.pdf

I've followed the directions in the manual but no go. It's actually a bit weird because when I look at the status of the device it gives me a different IP to one being reported by whatsmyip.com.

This was quite informative but it hasn't helped either. http://www.pcwintech.com/common-problem ... forwarding

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

After a lot of phone calls and many discussions I eventually got to the bottom of this issue of mine as outlined above.

The Telstra mobile network in Australia does not provide external IP address to residential plans or prepaid services.

The AirCard 810S is able to be port forwarded but not on the Telstra network as the system is not in place to physically manage it. Having said that, if you have a business plan then you can get a fixed IP address.
When I rang the business sales people in Telstra, a young lady from a country other than Australia told me they could transfer my current prepaid residential account to a prepaid business account. This turned out to be bad advice, surprise surprise. There is no such thing as a prepaid business account. You might say, why not just pay for a business account. Well here is the kicker, unless you have an Australian Business Number (ABN) you can't even get a business account. The taxation or business law doesn't allow it, apparently.

So the upshot is this. You can't port forward an AirCard 810S (Telstra Advance III 4GX) on a Telstra network unless you are on a business plan, end of story. Sounds very discriminatory doesn't it?

When IPv6 arrives and there are lots of IP addresses available this problem may disappear. Apparently this is a common problem with many mobile networks all other the world.

Not so Cheery
